i got all my mods working again. its sad that i still need to use the ultrawide mod. their native ultrawide is just stretched 16:9 and no 3440x1400. so dumb. also the high fps mod took some tinkering to get working again. everything else just worked for me.

There was a time in my thousand or so hours of play time where I had several additional halloween themed mods and the older CC Halloween armor skins and may have made a settlement or two that were Halloween themed.
In fact, if memory serves the one had all of its settlers wearing the jack-o’-lantern skin on their armors, robots were orange and the settlement only farmed gourds.
If you change the in game date to Christmas then diamond city has Christmas lights and a tree

Playing fallout 4 on Halloween was one of the coolest experiences I had. Last year I rebooted it and I was walking around sanctuary before the bomb dropped and I was so immersed by Halloween decor forgetting that the bombs dropped 8 days before Halloween. The game just feels somehow right to play then and I don’t know why, but even outside the game that time of year fits the emotions of fallout 4.

@@alanbloom20 no problem brother. I discovered that within the first 15 minutes on the Steam forums, which I was browsing because my game had crashed twice in that time. Had a couple crashes since but that’s normal Bethesda crashes.

Update #3 i decided to just make a new build, went with a melee focused build i did the duplication glitch of the perk book and just made all my stats maxed at 10 im now just completing side quest with the super sledge hammer avoiding the main quest to get the most out of the game

@@Young_Savage_904We are the minutemen + Scrap Everything fixes pretty much all of the issues I had with the minutemen and settlement system. Its so weird to me that they released the settlement builder as it is in vanilla when it functions so much better when you can turn off collision for the stuff you're placing.

I wanted to start fresh with this update, so I disabled all my mods and start from scratch, now I'm stuck on the concord museum terminal the character will not fix itself to the terminal, and since I can't open the console of the game to select TCL I had to restart from the Red Rocket save that I have.

It's the environment rubble collision blocking the path destination point. I can't believe that hasn't been fixed yet, It's such an easy fix for bethesda...

The Halloween pack will be due to the in game date of the bombs falling being 8 days before Halloween on 23/10/77. You can find a multitude of Halloween banners and decor around the wasteland in vanilla.

Dude, the Halloween stuff is because it was near Halloween when the bombs dropped. Some of the houses in sanctuary still have Halloween decorations on them. And when you are talking with your spouse in the opening there is an option to suggest going to buy Halloween decorations or something like that. It's not weird. A 6 second google search would have made you realize that.
The first thing I did when I got my Series X, was download the 60FPS recap. It's been great since. I'm surprised it took Bethesda so long to release that simple feature.
Next gen on PC - 8 years to get the ultrawide screen support that modders gave us years again. Great job Todd.
No, on PC the modders gave it to us, but the Bethesda don't. B don't add widescreen support at all, what they give is a simple solution to run natively in higher resolution, which the game has been able to do so far... BUT the UI doesn't do anything, just stretches everything. Ugly and lazy...

If I remember correctly, Halloween was just around the corner when the bombs dropped. There's dialog about carving pumpkins during the intro? You also see Halloween decorations when you leave the vault.
I think it's there to replace the white devils that plagued the game to give it more atmosphere 😇

What I remember from FO4 was its mod. Number 1 must-have-mod was inventory list screen and category. The one in the game was so inadequate for game with a lot of item. I don't play 76 or Starfield but I wish Beth can fix it in FO5 without relying on modder.
I did “when pigs fly” quest to get the piggy launcher. Used that against the enclave ambush and took out the dude with 1 hit.

For those running PC and already upgraded there are two groups of mods that you want to stay away from until to hear back from them: Script Extender and any engine patches INCLUDING the Unofficial Patch. Script Extender has to attach to specific code locations in order for it to rework so it has to get "re-sized", and this update corrected a number of issues (I think even Out of Time got patched) so you don't want those patches overwriting any of Bethesda's work until we figure out what has been fixed.
Other than that there is a large number of mods that should work just fine. Anything that would work on consoles, minus the engine fixes, is fair game for now.
Can confirm; my Sim Settlements 2 playthrough, which has a number of weapon mods (including see-through scopes) that do not leverage FO4SE are working A-OK, still.
LOL, anybody on PC really shouldn't even bother with this trash "update" because it adds nothing of value, breaks stuff for nothing, and overall is trash compared to the stuff we had available to us years ago.

The Halloween pack is because the open world begins around Halloween, just noticed the date while sleeping at Diamond City.

My main question
Can you download this update on console and load an old save (assuming you had no mods installed on that save, just non creation club dlc)?
By default settings post this update, the game is running actually pretty decently to honestly great on Steam Deck (LCD). The only thing I changed was setting my deck to 45 fps to just be sure. No serious stuttering yet. Also not draining my battery super fast either.
But on my PC...yeah different story. I didn't get the memo about not updating. Have to wait till the smoke clears on that one.
Try disabling script extenders and engine optimizations.
Can we normalize updating and reviving old games when they get an influx of new interest. New Vegas would still be great with a bunch of new updates but a well done remaster would be incredible also.

No, we shouldn't normalize. The older a game, the less likely mods are to get updated. Updating games 10+ years after they come out just screws over the mod community.

I recently picked up Fallout 3, new vegas and 4 on my Steam Deck during the sale. Got all 3 for like $12. FO3 is still alot of fun and I'm loving it all over again. Last time I played it was on the 360 14 years ago.

They updated plenty on PC too. None of my mods are broken after the update. They added some new items and quests as well.
I think the Halloween content was put in there because the start of the game is set just around Halloween time. It says so in the living room TV just before you need to leave your house. And the neighbors houses have Halloween decorations in them.

Didn’t mention that you can install mods on the Xbox through the Home Screen of the game now. I installed the whispering pines one, silent hill mod, and it’s pretty fun. Not sure I will leave it on for the entire playthrough as you can’t see anything due to the fog lmao but all the cryptids and silent hill enemies are cool.
ive been playing it before the update but last night i noticed blinding green flashes popping in and out around vault 81 area it got so bad for my eyes i had to turn it off .dont know if thats always been the case
The ultrawide 'support' just stretches the screen to fit your ultrawide and looks awful. The UI doesn't scale properly either so it takes up a huge portion of the screen.

i need 2 mods to just run Fallout 4 on my ultrawide and now cant even play it (well i could, but locked at 500x300p isnt great) and also the mods dont work no more so yeah....
I will say for the most part ultrawide does work right but it needs to patched some things don't work as intended. Example entering power armor the ui overlay doesn't properly load the first time. You have to reload while in power armor to have a proper power armor ui.
But the bigger problem was that in rain in power armor the overlay to show rain is only in 2560 x 1440. So not perfect but I'm not just gonna bash Bethesda for releasing an unnecessary update just cuz my mods are broken.

I don't mind the fo4 perk system for stuff like gun skills or lockpick etc.
After all just dumping up to 49 in lockpick won't do anything until I add that extra one.
But perks like Mr sandman etc should have been a separate one.
Give us the option to upgrade a skill or take a perk each level/other level.

I need help with this. On PS5 with a Fallout 4 that's never been modded, I try to do transfer save. Only one (out of MULTIPLE) comes up, it's kinda crappy since that save is literally from the beginning of the game. I have no idea why the rest of my saves won't show and i could really use some help figuring this out.
This is a record-breaking achievement for Bethesda. They have released updates in the past sure, but to release an inconsequential update that breaks this many mods, that must be a new high for them. Kudos.

I think they gave us Halloween decorations because the bombs started falling (in game) Oct 23rd 2077, right before Halloween.
So, I did not know this was coming out and earlier this week went back and was doing the DLC from an old save on my series X. From directly playing the old for a week to the update, it was a noticable visual improvement. I am super happy with it.
You almost move at Call of Duty Speed with that 60 FPS. I was running around for almost 30 minutes straight just for no reason. 😂

The Halloween stuff is there because in the game timeline the bombs dropped right before Halloween. Like they fell the week before trick or treat day.
The good… lots of free content, but sadly half of it is stuff most of us purchased anyway… That being the inferno and XO2 quests. These have been rolled into the Enclave Remnants line which is pretty good. Also rolled into the Enclave Remnants line are the Tesla canon, and a variety of heavy junk guns. I suspect these were added because they will make an appearance in 76 sooner rather than later. For me at least on Xbox S, all but the Tesla cannon has broken graphics. I can also attest that the entire quest line for the anti material rifle is broken. And worst of all, Preston is still broken, still not giving “taking independence”.

Awesome framerate improvements on the XBOX SX version since the update. VATS seems a little broken, however with it allowing targeting through walls. Also had issues with sound delay but a simple restart seemed to fix that.
Good luck trying to revert your install too, since there is no way to do that on console and PC will require a backup of the old version so you can have the originals of all the changed files.

I always go for the graphical mode since I’m used to play on consoles that how lower frame rate than PCs and just want some nice resolution, but sometimes performance mode is better indeed so I’ll give it a try
I accidentally tried to get into the power armor included with the Halloween stuff. That was a mistake, it locked me into the get into PA animation because I was unable to walk around it in the animation. There’s a few terminals I cannot access either as it locks me into the animation for the terminal.
A) I like the idea of PS5 having save transfer since I have a lot of hours on PS4 but since the fresh set of trophies don’t retroactively unlock I have to start over anyway.
B) Likewise whilst I have mods on last gen in order to earn trophies they have to be disabled (no trophy enabler mod on console I don’t think, haven’t checked in a while) broken mods haven’t impacted me. Granted I did recreate my mod setup and loaded up a modded save just to see how borked it got and as far as I could tell it was chugging along fine.
Takeaway) The current gen upgrade for me really just boiled down to the graphics modes and faster load times. Mods I probably won’t get around to using until much much later which is perfect since it’s going to take time to get that situation sorted out.
I think the halloween content is a reference to the bombs dropping a couple weeks before halloween. Its why some places are decorated with halloween decorations. So i think its a little nod to the timeline of when the bombs fell. Everyone was getting ready for the holiday.

I’m happy for this update it fixed the Lexington towers where I had to save Rex. There was some serious geometry glitches where walls with no collision were spawning in the entrance and throughout various floors. I got killed by a few super mutants at first until I realized it was a glitch and I could pass through them

I love the kinetic gun mod. You fire it too close to you at the ground and it sends you flying into the sky and far. Using it on enemies is so fun.

When you get these updates for ps5 games does the trophies stay the same, or do you need to start from fresh?
My experience on PC post patch has been very solid. I only bought the game last week and I don't typically run mods on my first playthrough. Having said that, pre-patch the game would typically crash back to desktop every 3-5 hours of gameplay without fail. Post patch I've been able to play for 12+ hours straight without a single crash in sight. Also, the framerate is rock solid, no more random and frequent drops into the 30's. My only real complaints are that they did nothing for the long AF load times. I'm on a GEN 4 WD Black SN850X and load times can take up to a minute +. And, that Bethesda STILL didn't fix Weapon Debris from immediately crashing the game on RTX series cards. Yes I know there's a mod that "fixes" that by disabling Geometry Collision, but, as I've already said, I don't like to mod on my first playthrough.
One of the new starting missions called when pigs fly is completely broken, it's ment to introduce new weapons, in my game it can't visually process or show any of the new weapons and all I get is a giant red exclamation point error.
I'm not happy with Bethesda.

Not sure if this is related, but a few comments up @roundearthshill248 mentions disabling weapon debris to fix a crash, just putting two and two together they sound related.

On PC I started a new game today. It force closes when I get to the bridge outside the first vault
I know people really love 3 and New Vegas, but Fallout 4 has always been my go-to Fallout game. The story is, admittedly, all over the place and there is tons of jank, but having the core gameplay (combat, exploration, etc) actually be fun just trumps everything for me. I tried so hard to get into 3, and while the story seemed really interesting, it just wasn't fun to play moment to moment, and I got the impression that Vegas had a similar style.
Edit: For all the people who are saying/will say I would just prefer Call of Duty, I've played almost every playthrough in 3rd person. The difference in shooting mechanics between 3 (and maybe NV) and 4 is like the difference between the mechanics of Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 & 3. Mass Effect 1 is kind of a slog for the same reason, but because the interconnected story of those games is so good, you kind of have to play the first game. That is not the case with the Fallout games.
Same for me but my only annoyance with 4 is the fusion cores for the power armor

Agreed, I loved 3 and I loved New Vegas and replayed them multiple times, but Fallout 4 just has much better/smoother gameplay.
you should definitely give new vegas a chance the gameplay isn’t as smooth as 4 obviously but still enjoyable in my opinion but the world and story are way more interesting the open world is much more dangerous especially early on the weapon progression feels much better it’s just more immersive.
Its in my top 5 favourite games and there are so many things i love about it especially settlement building

Just get a pc it's not hard. FO4 should run on most potatoes with 4gb of vram or less.

Are there any mods on PlayStation that randomize npcs with the creation club assets? Would love to see npcs roaming with added backpacks armors and skins
I was glad to see old friends still remain on the PS version, like your character getting stuck running sideways and other such good fun, along with completely new bugs like your PipBoy getting locked out of use in Sunshine Tidings quest etc. Codsworth's AI is also about the worst I've seen since Diablo 2's desert merc, although I can't remember if it was like this in the OG FO4. Game looks good though.
You made it sound like mods getting broken is specific to Bethesda games. Updates breaking mods is universal. You can't fault any dev for implementing software changes that don't account for any and all third-party modifications to it.

My mods were mostly weapons and armor, a few odds and ends. thankfully loaded up just fine.

Um, I booted up a game and it said, “Your DLC’s are out of date. Delete and reinstall to use.”
So I did. I deleted all the DLC’s from 4 and couldnt find them! They were waiting for me in the PS STORE waiting to be reinstalled. The Game looks as great as the day I originally bought it so I dont understand what this “Update” was meant for…? 🤷♂️
Excellent and informative as usual. The update did some very good things for consoles - particularly the XBox. The changes for PC aren't worth losing F4SE-dependant mods so I'm staying with the old version for now.

Why xbox in specific? If anything It would be best not to update if you have a Series X since you can play at 4k 60fps with mods. I know I'm not updating fallout 4 on xbox especially with the power armor mods I have, as well as Amerca Rising 2. Thus next gen update just seems kinda pointless unless you're playing on Playstation where mods are pretty much nonexistent.

@@TheGregGibson First, it's better to have 4k60fps engrained in the game and not to rely on mods that could potentially be broken or removed at any point.
Second, you can't choose not to update on console. I'm pretty sure the only potential way would be pausing the update and taking your Xbox offline to play. Good luck bud.
@_DMNO_ I turned of auto updates and have my xbox offline. I don't want to risk losing my power armor mods, weapon mods, or mods like america rising 2 that for all I know may never get ported back to xbox.

Getting new vegas on a 64 bit engine would be a game changer. Getting that game to work with mods on pc is half of the experience every time you install
ESO's guide on youtube makes it painless, relatively speaking.
The fact that ALL they did to make it steam deck "verified" was literally remove the launcher. Now you cant edit the settings at all on steam deck, and it also runs significantly worse :)
How do you edit settings now? Do they put the editor Insider that game?
Actually, performance mode switched to the 120 hz mode for me on PS5. So it's uber smooth
I haven't played Fallout 4 for years and I'm liking the new update very much. Started a new game right away, without hesitation. The fantastic point of that is that I can't even remember every single location from my first playthrough. I know some spots and where the Raiders are hiding, but I'm glad to walk through the wasteland and towns again. The atmosphere at the beginning of the game ( weak armour and weapons, trying to gain skill points, using food and meds very often ) is unbelievable good and challenging.

They should’ve just did what they had with Skyrim anniversary and package ALL of the creation club content in with the next gen update.

the anniversary update was free, the content still did cost you money, it only was bundled and at a discount - not to mention that the whole point of the anniversary update was that skyrim had been out for 10 years, fallout 4 on the other hand is 9 years old. This literally only is a soft special edition upgrade, but since FO4 already is 64 bit it doesn't need a re-release like skyrim did to get a 64 bit client.

the skyrim anniversary edition costs money, this is a free update for fallout 4. not to mention it's a lot harder to make that lore friendly in a game like fallout than it is for the elder scrolls games
Also, they didn't fix the Automatron crash/corruption glitch on the Play Station version of the game. They only patched a half dozen or so bugs out of over 100 according to the patch notes.

This wasn't even a next gen update if you're on PC. They added so little that they had to list the console changes in the PC patch notes just to pad it out. If you're on PC, this isn't a "next gen" update, it's just an update that breaks mods and fixes a few small bugs. I thought they were going to add support for 60+ fps on PC, yet I still have to rely on a mod for that...a mod that currently doesn't work because of the update.
Just Bethesda spitting in the face of the people that actually make their games good. I'm never buying another Bethesda product in my life.

Omg thank you for saying "Current Gen Consoles"!!!!!! I hear so many people refer to the Xbox series S and X and PS5 as next Gen consoles still, even though they have been out for years.
I play on the series x and it literally takes 5 minutes for an autosave, quicksave, fast travel, elevator rides, load screens. And the quest where you get the junk guns is completely broken the guns are invisible and they shoot huge red explanation marks. Let alone the whole mission was completely riddled with the massive red explanation marks everywhere. I was truely disappointed i was so hype for this. Oh and another thing to mention is it completely wiped my load order on my mods. I was going to disable them anyway but i thought id mention it
