My white car runs low 9s in my videos is an 1987 ford mustang with the same column. It is a tilt column and its wheel used to wobble pretty good. I used to think the bearings were going out or something was jarring loose. I even considered putting another one in. However i learned (before google was a thing lol!) how to fix it by removing the multifunction switch with 2 simple screws to explose the frame. behind it was these black nuts that were part of the framing of the column. They were loose? Boom tightened them up made a world of difference! Didn't wobble no more! - Авто та транспорт
My car got stolen back in the 90s and my steering wheel has been wobbly ever since, finally gonna fix it. Thanks.
The wobble has driven me nuts since I bought this restoration project, but I never had time to look at it. Now that I am waiting on my engine to arrive, I finally had time to Google it. Thank goodness I came across this video. Quick and easy fix -- no more wobble.
Thanks for sharing! I had to make that video. It just made sense.
Amazing how a random guy 4 years ago decided to be helpful and here we are 2023 im another random guy and this helped me 💯

You are spot on, I worked at a Ford dealer in the mid to late eighties, I fixed a shit ton foxbodies with that issue, the ignition switches liked to come apart too, bad crimp(s) from the factory.
✌🏾Thanks
Damn brother,I got the steering wheel wobble. Who would have thought it was that simple. Thank you my man.
You are welcome
Thank you. I was putting it off for so long because I thought it would be a long process.
Not really but thanks!
Another informative video. Appreciate it Dan keep em coming!
Mine just started doing this. Awesome videos !
I appreciate it bro. I’ve been dealing with that for over 10 years couldn’t figure it out. Thought I needed another steering column.
Yw
How did you install that tilt
Took me 10min as you stated thanks for the info
Would this be same for 86 fox

Great video man!
Thank you!
Thanks i needed that
Yw. Happy new year
Great Video, my 87 had this problem, actually would get locked sometimes when turning, I'd have to yank it into the turn, scary!
I found this fix on an old fox message board.
Thanks for sharing, this is why I love the channel 👍
Ya 87-89 NOTORIOUS for this problem
My bearings are exploded😫
Dam man that's good to know I have a 87 wheel steering wheel column! Keep those videos coming bro!

Welcome!
It is usually the bearing
No it’s not
@@Neomustangs my 88 bronco is a bearing in upper column that is shot making it loose as a goose.
@@davo8802 None of the mustang onss i have ever seen had a bad bearing....
@@Neomustangs could be where people pull them selfs up in broncos using the steering wheel.
Thanks 4 video. But I have same or worse issue with my 97GT (crowd sweeper) tilt steering column. I can't find anything @UA-cam. Just Foxbdy stuff.
My steering wheel wobbles ALL OVER the place. A new replacement is in neighborhood of $300. I'd like to skip that cost if i can... Help?
Mine wobbles so bad, hope this resolves my issue too
Dude, I need a steering column, I have an 88 and the bearing in the tilt part is shot, I tightened the 2 bolts didn't help, it's the upper bearing, I know u sell parts, I'd like to have one that's not tilt, u got any?
Hell yah!!!! 👍🏻
Need to actually try it, but this just saved me a bunch of aggravation I think! I rely on the Fox Mustang community for my Mark VII 😂
i was ready to tear mine apart and get the welder and files out ...2 bolts...? ok well shit
How do you fix it on a 86 GT Mustang steering wobbles up and down side to side
I havent done one of those sorry.
How’s it going Dannie, I hv a 92 hatchback and I’m swapping the column and cluster out for the 87-89 tilt, My question is, will I be able to re-use the bezel trim from my 92 with the 87-89 Column and Cluster? Great video... Thanks a lot
I don’t think so. I think you used the 87-89
Don’t gotta yell fella haha
Yell? You mean talking loud lol!?
I’m jk around lol it’s a garage it has a loudness to it lol
Ok I have a 91, it has about 61° of freeplay, is it those bolts or the clock spring? I can't find 1 video on it.
No this was a quick video for the tilt columns.
Do you know if a 1986 column has the same screws ?
No sorry
@@Neomustangs I will check this weekend
great! will fix my 88 tonite! what size socket?
Not sure i think its 1/2
13 mm
Close
will that column fit a 1991 fox
Yes, I have seen many people swap a tilt into a 90-93. I wouldn't suggest going the other way tho. 90-93 in an 87-89
And here I am with the entire aluminum piece cracked. Never as easy as the internet says for me
Same question dose this fix apply to the 79-86 Mustangs ?
IM pretty sure it does!
Yes
Mine doesn’t have those screws, do you have to take it apart to get to them?
Noticed my dad's 89 column, the steering wheel sits like almost an inch to the right side off center. It's bolted up correct and hardly any play in it. Any ideas?
Column Needs to be dropped down to floor and the mid brackets need flipped. They are offset and we’re installed wrong
@@Neomustangs ah that makes sense. Thank you!
I need a neo mustang shirt :)
I have a teespring store. teespring.com/stores/neomustangs
Well, that wasn't it on my '89 convertible. Seems to be in the actual tilt mechanism, looser on the right side, and I have to figure out how to remove the wheel for a better look.
Ah
@@Neomustangs Figured it out. The tilt mechanism pivots on two hardened, knurled pins, and both pins worked themselves out of the carriage, leading to epic slop. I took the wheel off, removed the trim ring plate, then tapped them back in with the gentle application of brute force. Works perfect now.
👍
Do you know if that wobble fix work for the 79-86 4eye Mustangs as well?
Yes. I actually jst figured this same problem out 2 weeks ago on my 86
@@eddymac2052 I have an 1986 Ferrari GT Mustang steering wheel wobbles left to right up and down took the collar cover find the screws did not see the screws to tighten can you explain exactly what you did

Dude, stop yelling.
