Funny how Todd Carty was heading out of the show at a time when he had to be the show's hottest commodity!!!!! I mean I could've imagined this storyline being red hot back in the day when people didn't know how it was going to play out.

And then later script writers and bosses like John Yorke pushed for this too and in keeping with Julia Smith's plan Richards became a battleaxe over a prolonged time. By the late 90s she did become a miserable cow and in her last years she was radically transformed from her earlier nice personality to what we got. Richards herself was critical of how the writers made her so bitter in her later years and openly criticized it. She hated the exit story line.
