- The Sydney All Breeds Dog Training Club’s 4th annual obedience trial featured 27 breeds of dog.
There was everything from Bassets, to Dalmatians, to Henry the Newfoundland, one of only 9 that were In Australia at the time.
The star of the show was a German Shephard named Raja, “the leading obedience trail dog in New South Wales.”
The dogs were put through their paces with heeling tests, 10-minute downs and a utility obedience trail.
Through it all, Raja was the dog to watch.

Such a fluffy collection of the goodest boys and girls!
I recognise the late Bob McGarvey in this footage! He judged me with my first Collie (rough) in 1983. This German Shepherd works beautifully! Very happy and willing to work.
Something to keep in mind is back in this era, compulsion style training was what was common (not to be confused with balanced training).
We’ve really come a long way since then! The primary styles of training I encounter now are either positive reinforcement only training and balanced training. I prefer and use the latter and despite what some may believe, it is NOT the same thing as compulsion based training.
Loved it👍
When you realise that those dogs are now dead 😭😭😭
And most of the humans too.
