In an uncertain world, perhaps a prayer to the unpredictable is something we can cling to.
I wrote this one in 2015, and it's been a favorite of mine ever since, sharing some characteristics with both my older song, "Carousel" and some of my newer, more jazz-influenced stuff. For whatever reason, a bunch of my encounters with the divine have involved a Trickster deity about half the time. That's a thing which might terrify some people, and I understand. Like the song says, I know they'll be as gentle as they can.

All hail Loki, the Trickster.
While I am no stranger to SJ's songs bringing me to tears (looking at you Valkyrie's Daughter) this one hit like a truck, and did the simultaneous filling me with just happiness and at the same time, waterworks. Not sure why, but this one just sank in and I think was just the exact thing I needed to hear today.
As I long time follower of Hermes and friend of Coyote, I thank you for this beautiful tribute to the Trickster.
I just discovered this song and it really hits me. I recently discovered the deities in my life towards the end of 2019, and the first one to reach out that I identified was Loki. All my divinations leading up to 2020 was a prediction for major change. Tricksters bring a whirlwind of change, and despite how some of it has gone - I wouldn't change it either. He's been with me longer than I knew and helps me to keep moving through all the bad that has happened.
But what I'm getting at is that I really resonate with this song at this time! Great job!! I love your music and all the work you do!!! Stay safe and take care!!

Given the current state of the world, I feel like everybody is individually and collectively being guided to work with the Trickster, however that manifests to them. For me, Cernunnos can definitely have his playful side at times, and then, of course, there's Raven. But lately, the Trickster has been appearing to me as the Clown, both the archetype in general and specific characters. I find it strangely fitting that "Joker" came out in October of last year. It seemed like a warning, "Buckle up, because we're gonna go through some rough soul-searching and turn the clown makeup into shields against those who take the wise for fools."
Also, I'm tightening up my stage play adaptation of Victor Hugo's "The Man Who Laughs", which features a disfigured clown confronting the political corruption that literally scarred him.
Excuse me, I don't mean to sound rude in any way, but I thought the song was about Loki
May I ask who Cernunnos is ? I am quite curious to be honest
@@fatalos6855 I think the song is written for the trickster archetype in general, which could of course include Loki.
Cernunnos is a Celtic god who often appears in the form of a half-man, half-stag creature. Sadly, how exactly he was worshiped historically or what his precise place was in the pantheon has been mostly lost to time, but we do know he was associated with protecting animals and forests. Nowadays in modern Pagan movements, like Wicca (my path), he's also connected to creativity, the dual nature of literal or metaphorical hunts, sexuality, prosperity, etc. He's also seen as a figure who teaches balance, how to navigate one's own wild side.

this song gives so much hope and comfort. i have recently found out that loki has been beside me for quite some time, cheering me on from the sidelines. it reminds me of them a lot. i'm grateful for them staying by my side, even when it's hard for me to believe.
