I love this show so damn much. Carries that 90s Kids WB energy into a new generation and I'm glad to have discovered it, even though it's largely been forgotten by Disney ever since. Great review!
It’s funny coming back to Dave after watching the Earthworm Jim cartoon. That show also had a narrator voiced by Jeff Bennet, filling the same meta role
Disney advertised this show like crazy and then screwed it over. Networks can be so stupid and indecisive. If you want a show to be a money making machine, don’t screw it over.
Doug Langdale’s other Disney cartoon The Weekenders wasn’t treated fairly either. While it did pretty decently popular in ratings on One Saturday Morning, the infamous change with ABC Kids let this and other OSM shows around the early 2000’s go get the axe and air the remaining episodes on Toon Disney with little to no fanfare.
Funny thing that you mentioned Rocky & Bullwinkle when comparing it and Dave’s humor because I believe that IS what this series is a HUGE love letter towards. Dave The Barbarian I feel honestly captures and respects Jay Ward/Bill Scott’s style of humor way batter than modern adaptations of their classic IPs… COUGH *Teletoon George Of The Jungle* COUGH! Oh, pardon me. Had something boring and gross in my throat. Excellent review of an underrated cartoon that definitely needed more love & support by the network.
Something interesting of note is that somewhere, Dan Povenmire once mentioned that the show's original version/pilot was " funniest thing he ever saw and the show was dumbed down substantially" Given how much its liked now and certainly not seen as dumbed down, am I so curious as to what it was supposed to early on. A recent interview with Doug Langdale did mention that the pilot didn't have Candy and she was an exec suggested addition and he thought that improved the show despite being hesitant at first so that's what we know from him. So all the 2010s cartoons this round are bangers, nice. Oh I can vouche fairly hard for Weekenders, it's about on par with Dave if not a bit better for just having more time to grow.
I remember Disney Channel shipping Dave with Lizzie McGuire's cartoon alter ego for a marathon where they played both shows back to back. I really enjoyed this show AND The Weekenders and at least the latter got a DVD release which I eventually got. I’m actually binging the show right now and it’s even better than I remembered! But I feel like a show like this would’ve felt more at home on Cartoon Network. Imagine the City bumpers made for this show!
I hope that the Gravity Falls Review can have the same *episode segment format* as the Quack Pack Review, like instead of a TOP10 it can be a Ranking of worst to best episode of the show(or of "least good" to best episode of the show since Gravity Falls thankfully doesn't have a single bad episode)as I would like to know EAM's opinion of all the episodes of the show without a doubt.⭐
This was so ahead of its time. If it came out in 2020, more people would've seen it, and would last much longer. First time hearing about this show wa sthe Mcdonalds toys
Happy 20th Anniversary to Dave The Barbarian One of Disney’s Most Underrated Shows and I can’t wait for The Next Review as Gravity Falls is My Favorite 2010s Disney Cartoon 👍👍👍
If I had a nickel for every time Doug Langdale wrote and Shawn Patterson composed for a cartoon with only 1 season, I’d have 3 nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened thrice. -Dave the Barbarian -The X’s -El Tigre
The voice cast is a connection homage to the 90s Kids WB era: Danny Cooksey (Tiny Toons), Tress MacNeille ( Animaniacs/ Tiny Toons ), Kevin Michael Richardson ( Road Rovers), Jeff Bennett ( Freakazoid / Earthworm Jim ), Frank Welker (Tiny Toons/ Animaniacs), and Paul Rugg (Freakazoid) with the writing reminiscing of classic cartoons like Underdog, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and The Flintstones!
Yes! The Weekenders is such a cute slice of life show with some hilarious moments and all. Not to mention quite comforting with it’s atmosphere, laid back dialogue, and charming characters.
And how am I gonna see those Bruh Nye the science guy episodes that are Fantastic Voyage ones? You know. Journey to the center of Hank, Bobby’s inside story one and two, and the two parted episode The digestive system of an acrobat?
@@charlottereisner7975 Well I'm sorry but unfortunately there's nothing I can do about it. Well, every year in January,EAM makes a QnA video at the end of the month.Maybe by asking in the final year video he can give you the answer if he can make this video.
I hope there can be a joke in the Gravity Falls Review about Bill Cypher"weirdly"invading and manipulating the EAM channel becoming the "EAB (EmployeeaBillion)channel".🔼 Would make something really cool and funny.😄
It was ahead of its time. The humor aged extremely well

"Dave the Barbarian" is so criminally underrated!
It’s funny coming back to Dave after watching the Earthworm Jim cartoon. That show also had a narrator voiced by Jeff Bennet, filling the same meta role
I always felt that this show felt like a spiritual successor to Earthworm Jim, as the narrator and humor felt very similar.
Funny show, so underrated, wish it would get a physical release.
I hope Ned can make everyone in the world laugh someday,he truly deserves for being the greatest villain of the show.😊

I hear Dave Feiss worked on the intro too! Glad you are talking about this short lived, yet memorable show.

He will surely be forgotten.😂

I will not be tolerating The Weekenders slander! That show was amazingly witty and has held up shockingly well - but Dave the Barbarian was fun too.

It feels like George of the Jungle (2007) but done right.
Agreed
Can You do a Video on The Ghost and Molly McGee?

13:44 really out of all the Hannah Barbara cartoons too review you chose quick draw McGraw? I would have chose Huckleberry hound.
It has to be a horse cartoon for the ninetieth Review.
