+andrew welsh It's a tuned percussion instrument (Depending on where you hit the triangle with the beater and where on the beater you hit can change the note frequency. i.e. Hitting the triangle with the tip of the beater will produce a lower note than if you hit it closer to your fingers) so yes :D
My students laughed when I Included the triangle, tambourine and maracas as musical instruments. They said those are kids toys. I found a solo video of each ( including this ) and they ain't laughing now!!

Jose Cortijo (the guy playing in the video) plays MANY different instruments.. so yea he knows what hes doing and hes a great percussionist im sure he is proud of his craft.
