    Gorgeous composition! Ruth Bolister's perfect oboe is accompanied by string-writing to die for. The Andante (9:47-18:53) is desert island fare, certainly one of the loveliest things I've heard by Jacob...

    Agree with comments below: Jacob sets out the piercing oboe -beautifully played here by Ruth Bolister- against string layers that are contrasting, light, and nicely support the soloist. At times, the string layer almost seems like a Baroque ritornello, with dynamic, tutti passages. There is a great variety of textures (including contrapuntal) and the oboe timbre is never tiring. It is pastoral, melancholic, and beautiful!
