  • This week, we are spending the week in Split, Croatia! Split is our first destination after beginning our full-time travel adventure, and we're so glad that we picked this beautiful city! Split is known for having a very unique cuisine, so we decided to do a food tour and try the very best restaurants and food that Split has to offer!
Overall, we were super impressed by the quality of restaurants and food in Split. Everything was extremely fresh, and we even got to try some unique foods that we had never even heard of before! We both loved the squid risotto or "crni rizot" the best!!
Here’s the full list of everything we ate/drank:
    - Latte & Espresse from Terraca Vidilica
    - Strudel and a ham & cheese croissant from Goluzarije Bakery
    - Fish Soup and Pasticada s njokima from Trattoria Tinel
    - Crni Rizot from Konoba Fetivi
If you want to learn more about what we did, feel free to visit our blog post: jackandgabexpl...
Thanks so much for watching! Don’t forget to like and subscribe :)

Glad you like my country. Since you are foodies I hope you will visit more of Croatia, I will give you some suggestions on authentic foods and drinks. In Ston town are world best oysters (and you can walk Europe longest walls). Around Neretva you can try eel stew or frog legs. On the island of Pag world famous Pag cheese and lamb on a spit. In Istria region anything with Tartufi (truffles). If you are going towards the north (i.e. Plitvice lakes) you should try pig on a spit in that Lika region or Puh (door mouse if you are brave enough or if you found where they have it on a menu). In Zagreb area try Čevapi u lepinji (ground meet sausage barbecue in a special type of bread). In the Zagorje region, if you are going to visit Trakošćan castle or Krapina neanderthal museum you should try Purica s mlincima (turkey with a special type of pastry) and Međimurska gibanica (dessert/cake). In the Slavonija or Baranja region, if you are going to see wetlands or some of the towns, a must is Fish paprikaš (fresh water fish stew), Čobanac (wild meat stew), Kulen (type of sausage).
You also have to drink so I recommend vines. Since Croatia has 3 different climate areas there is no shortage of variety, but I would definitely try Plavac mali (not a name of the vine but a type of grape in Dalmatia) or Graševina in northern part of Croatia. Also we drink Gemišt in northern parts which is white vine mixed with sparkling water or Bambus which is red wine mixed with Coca Cola (i know, i know...but try it).
Also, I can not stress that enough, WE LOVE our RAKIJA (spirits). There are many, many flavors but one thing is important - TRY HOMEMADE STUFF and not store bought, there should be no problem finding it, ask anyone, if they don't make it they know somebody who does. Dalmatia region prefers Travarica (medicinal herbs), Šljivovica in northern parts (plum) or Lozovača (grape). Those are strong ones, for ladies ;) there are Višnjevac (cherry), Orahovac (walnut), Rogač (carob), Metvica (mint) and many, many other flavors.
    Enjoy!

Thank you SO MUCH for watching and giving us this AMAZING list of recommendations!! We love Croatia and your country's food so much and we will try our best to try many of these things! We did try Rakija and LOVED it! We are actually posting a Split Nightlife video in a few hours and we try Rakija in the video. We loved the cherry and walnut flavors!

@@JackandGabExplore No problem, you seem like nice people. I would just add to the list Lignje na žaru (Squid on a grill) and Salata od hobtnice (octopus salad) while you are still in Dalmatia. Also, I forgot to tell you, do not eat in the restaurants by the beach or in the center of the town because they are mostly tourist traps and serve lower quality food that is more expensive. Best you look on the Internet for reviews and recommendations.
See you in your next video :)

In Dalmatia you have to try Škampi na buzaru (Scampi cooked in garlic, tomato, ,oliveoil, parsley, breadcrumbs and white wine)
And dont forget to try one of the most popular meals in Croatia’s Dalmatia region is peka, a blend of vegetables and meat drizzled with olive oil, sprinkled with herbs, and then baked to perfection under a bell-like dome, or ispod čripnje. You’ll see it listed on menus throughout the region, and if you are lucky enough to be invited into the home of a Dalmatian family, it’s likely that you’ll feast upon it for dinner. It is traditional for Dalmatians to cook peka in their fireplaces at home. Many Croatian families, especially those in the countryside, even have a special oven outdoors for cooking.

OMG I've seen so many Croatia videos and was sitting here watching yours and thinking "man, how come no one ever talks about fetivi?" And then second later there you were lol.
Not only is fetivi my fav restaurant in Split, but last time I was there I stayed right above it. We could look right down into it from our balcony and the place was fantastic.
    Ty for this!
    Safe travels!
