    Ok, a little advice, first put down 2- 2x8s or 2x10, with 4 pieces of pipe between them, have an extra 2 by ready for when you reach the end of the bottom one, it will roll just fine, just recirculate the pipes, and use a snatch block so you double the pull

    Great job and the list of dos and don’t. We are hoping to get a 20 footer soon on our remote land and what you’ve gone thru will certainly help us with our first one. Where’s the vid on the roof project?

      Congrats on getting a shipping container! I’m on my phone so I can’t easily search our videos, but it’s in our Shipping Container playlist. We need to do a video on how we made our shipping container doors function better. We will do that soon. Feel free to ping us with any questions you have. We’ve added a solar system to our first SC, and we will be expanding it to the second SC and to the covered area we have between the two. You’re going to love your container!

      The containers are perfect for us! Locking up our tools and machines definitely gives us a sense of safety. They get damn hot inside, though - even with ventilation! The prices have come down since we purchased our first one 1.5 years ago. Thanks a ton for watching.

    I found putting logs underneath makes pulling, pushing them easier. Just like the Egyptians did it 😂
    I used a hydraulic floor jack to get them under the containers and dug holes to get the jack under the containers. Could be easier than a hi-lift jack depending on what your ground is like and how the containers are sitting.

    • @OurNewLand
      @OurNewLand  Рік тому +1

      We for sure should have done that. And regarding the hi-life jack, we didnt realize how far down that handle has to go! Definitely a pain, but we got it done. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

    I'm getting my 40 footer delivered this week. Thanks for the tips. The question that very few people seem to ask is why are these shipping containers in abundance like they are nowadays? I see them everywhere. Ten years ago or so, I didn't see any. What's going on?

    • @OurNewLand
      @OurNewLand  Рік тому

      Good luck with your 40! We love both of ours. If you have issues with doors that aren't moving or opening easily, feel free to reach out to us. We really need to do a video on how we improved our doors. Check out our UPDATED lighting video where we use magnets to hold the lights up. Our first attempt didn't last long, but the updated video technique has worked flawlessly! I guess you see them more often now because it's such a relatively cheap and easy way to instantly have a large protected enclosure. Best of luck on yours!

      People are using them for tiny homes, greenhouses, and some are burying them for bunkers.
      I read where someone used telephone poles to move their containers around their property.
      I would love a video on how to improve the doors. I just had a 40’ shipping container delivered a week ago. How did the vents you installed work out for the condensation problems? I am thinking of using two whirlybird vents, with a mounting kit on each end of the container, but your idea looks like a better deal for the money.
      I found you while looking for lighting ideas. Still haven’t figured out how to run the wire from the lights to the power supply, without squishing it in the doors, or drilling a hole in the steel.
      I loved the stories you shared about your birth family. That’s so awesome.
      Thanks for your help. 👍🏻

    Frustrating, but you know for next time, if there is one.

      Hey there! Thanks for stopping by! That dog was so friendly. You could tell he was a farm dog, because he would walk over a quick pet, but then would move a few feet away when we would say "no". He loved running in front of our machine, and knew he needed to jump over the cattle guard instead of trying to walk across it. Take care!

    You can definitely tell and see the drop and rise in the landscape. Have you considered using steel corner brackets to screw into the floor, to hold the wood posts away from the tent wall? 😊❤️🙏🇦🇺⛺️🐍

    • @OurNewLand
      @OurNewLand  Рік тому +1

      Definitely a strong slope by the tents. The brackets would definitely work. We had planned on using a dowel (nail with the head cut off) to hold the posts in place, but they did well enough without any help, so we just left them. Thanks again for watching!

    It's always easy to overthink things especially if they are a huge 40 foot chunk of metal!!! haha been there and done that!
    They move pretty easy with the right methods applied.......
    Try 4-6 inch round fence style posts next time guys you can roll that big thing across them with ease.
    Good to see some progress coming along, our main property is on the back burner right now but should be doing a large x3 40 foot shipping container shop build out there this summer.

    • @OurNewLand

    In case it helps others with a similar task, look into using a snatch block(s) to multiply your force.

    CAN YOU define Skis better, please???

    • @OurNewLand
      @OurNewLand  4 місяці тому

      I should have clarified that term. I mean we should have placed pipes, beams or 2x4s under the shipping container, perpendicular to the length of the container. This would have created several small points of friction, instead of fighting the friction from the dirt across the entire footprint of the container. In theory, it would have been much easier to slide the container across those pipes/boards. Thanks for watching.
