FACTS! I watched that move on the late-night tape delay telecast. The replay doesn't capture how it looked and felt watching it in the flow of the game. He went out of bounds and came back in bounds in the air. I was 10 years old then and I'm 53 now, I played basketball through the D-1 level, and I've been watching all levels for 43 years still I've never seen a more amazing in-game basketball play.
@@jlilly7913 That's what I thought when I watched it LIVE more than 40 years ago in a small TV, then I watched it a couple of years ago on UA-cam, carefully. Great move, but should have been blocked, IF the "great" lazy ass Kareem had done his job. The clown is just standing there flatfooted, WATCHING, while the Doctor operated. P.S. no, he did not go out of bounds and then come back. You must be one of those guys go believe stories about some guy jumping, then staying put in the air while the defenders have to go down because of gravity, then continuing to fly, then do a 360, then climbing higher and dunking the ball.
He doesn’t get the accolades, but everybody knows Dr. J was the man in the 70s. No one could stop him and his Afro flying through the air. That’s what I remember watch him on cable. Him playing at Rutgers Park in New York City crowd he would pull in unbelievable could be one of the best players in the 70s.
@@keithgrefen8174 lmao how is he NOT a top 10 player? Especially the ABA Doc when he was in his prime he was like Jordan before Jordan. Doc is absolutely a top 10 player, he was the 2nd best player of the 70's, 1st was Kareem.
@@HiNRGboy he not top 10 based on the fact there is 10 people easily ahead of him. 4 maybe 5 are Lakers if you include the logo. Jerry west. In no particular order. Kareem, magic, Kobe ,Shaq , LeBron. Non Lakers would be MJ of course. Wilt chamberlain, Larry bird , tim Duncan, bill Russell , Elgin Baylor . What about even Stephen curry in the new age... Kevin Durant. You could argue even a few older or newer player. So maybe Doctor j can make top 15. Top 10 is a stretch.
arizjones, just think about it . Magic went to 9 Finals, and Won 5 of um(NBA TITLES)). He was playing for a Championship just about every Year that he was in the League. ThatS INCREDIBLE.
He was a scorer/defender and probably most respected athlete ever. When they announced his name or when he appeared on the floor.....silence and then standing ovation from all
Dr. J -- Pure Legend. Magic, too. GOAT questions are crazy. There are MULTIPLE GOATS belonging to the basketball multi-verse of different eras. Dr. J -- Wow. Just. Wow.
Not only was Dr. J one of the greatest players in the NBA ever, he was the most Classiest and intelligent playes also. He owned lots of stock in Coca-Cola back in the 70's
I'm 48 and started watching B-ball when Dr.J was either old or retired. I say this, because I always remember Cooper playing excellent defense and blocking shots.
Dr. J was like a myth when I was growing up. I’d heard of him, but; they didn’t show ABA or NBA games on TV like they do now. I was excited when I heard he was coming to the NBA. He did not disappoint. He was in a league of his own. Dr. J was everything you could want in a basketball player on and off the court.
My old man’s favorite player. Him and I both agree that Jordan is the greatest to ever play, but Dr. J is his favorite. And just like magic said, my dad’s second favorite, Dr. J is the original airman. He created the style we’ve watched come to life once magic hit the court
I was lucky enough to see Dr j when he played in the aba before the merger playing with the different colored ball he was otherworldly. He was beloved everyone I mean everyone loved him ❤️
What people don’t realize Dr J saved the NBA from going under, He was the only marketable Superstar If you combine is NBA and ABA which you should because the NBA merged with the ABA in early 70s Dr. J has 30,020 points a bunch of First teams and and a decent defender but if you listen to Stephan A and all of the media crap their only going to count what he did NBA which doesn’t make sense at all because they are one.
I could listen to Magic describe Dr. J's baseline move a million times! Still the greatest move I've ever seen!
It's a great move, saw it live, however he would not have scored if lazy ass pothead Kareem had played defense.
What about Jeff Malone's leaping out of bounds three pointer?
@@HiNRGboy Nah. We experienced a mass hallucination on the Doc's move.
😵💫

Magic love gettin up when he bout to tell bout a crazy move😂😂 The excitement for the game shines through 💯
Julius Erving doesn't get enough credit and doesn't get any type of attention for being a top 10 player ever, which is sad
He not a top ten player but you won't talk nbas history and knowledge of your stuff if doctor j don't come up

Magic played against the best, and came out on top more often than not. What a time that was.
arizjones, just think about it . Magic went to 9 Finals, and Won 5 of um(NBA TITLES)). He was playing for a Championship just about every Year that he was in the League. ThatS INCREDIBLE.
Yes my Lakers...Showtime!
Absolute legend ahead of his time.

Magic has the greatest way to tell stories of the greats 👍 😊
Like listening to your uncles around the kitchen table. This is gold! I appreciate these stories from the legends now vs reading about it later.

Crazy that magic played dr j and Michael years later. Like he was getting a vision of the future facing dr. J.
Dr. J was like a myth when I was growing up. I’d heard of him, but; they didn’t show ABA or NBA games on TV like they do now. I was excited when I heard he was coming to the NBA. Most people don't realize that when Dr. J began having NBA success his most athletic days had already been spent in the ABA.

I became an NBA fan because of the Doc

Grew up watching Doctor "J". He was doing MJ years before MJ.
