    Um, kids swear because they hear adults swear. Never should punish kids because they listen to you and repeat after you.

    It kind of depends on the parents. Like I'm a 14 yr old boy and my dad doesn't seem to mind what I say. But my friend George's dad HATES swearing more than anything.

    • @adrianacantisani
      @adrianacantisani  3 роки тому +7

      it is really just a matter of what we perceive as "normal". At 14 you are quite aware of the words you use and have enough life experience to choose who to say what with... For example, to an adult (when you're surprised) you might say, "No way! Amazing!" but to your friend you might say, "Get the f**k outta here, no way!".... You know what I mean? This is part of language knowledge called pragmatics and using different language with different people or in different situations is fine. But very young children don't have that life experience yet.

      very true! swearing comes from deep within and when it wants to come out, it will :-) the tricky part is when you're dealing with preschoolers who tend to repeat what they hear (adults say) and can't judge the situation.

    We are a Christian family and my ex husband swears (he denies it and blames us because nothing is his fault because he is a narcissist like his dad ), my 5 year olds teacher keeps complaining my kid screams profanities in class at her and the kids . I am embarrassed and sick of it. We’ve taken things away, his dad has spanked him, nothing works. I have a teenage son that has mental illness and plays video games and I am for sure he has picked it up from his brother , but what else can we do?

    I didn’t really swear as a child. My parents taught me not to. But one would curse more than the other growing up and I still didn’t adapt the behavior. Only until I made friends that cursed in middle school did I occasionally curse. Then I completely stopped when I got to high school/college. Now as an adult, I curse more than I did in my youth because of the people I’ve been around. But I’m solo these days. But I must say it does feel liberating. But would like to learn different words to express my emotions.

      Hi, it's hardly ever a matter of good/bad, right/wrong with people. In some cultures, swear words are hardly noticed and in others they can be very offensive so it really depends on what the parents choose to do, really. I often get asked about how to correct this behaviour so I thought )'d make a video on it. Where are you from? How is swearing seen in your country?

    I've always been someone who has always very rarely used cuss words beyond G-rated ones ("sucks" and "freaking" are usually the strongest language I use) but sometimes I still giggle when I hear a taboo cuss word. I think the combination of I've always had good vocabulary for my age and I rarely get angry is why it's so uncommon. The most recent time I used a swear word was a few months ago when I really needed to go to the bathroom and both were occupied, I have Crohn's disease which makes it especially hard (I'm thankful though that mine is very mild). Since it was a mild cuss word by most people's standards everyone just laughed.

    • @adrianacantisani
      @adrianacantisani  2 роки тому

      Well, with Crohn's I can just imagine what it might have been. Say it if you can't do it 😉 Jokes aside, what you say is soooo true... our background and experience with cuss words will have a heavy influence on how we use and react to them.... and they come from where our emotions stem, no doubt about that! Thanks for sharing!

      @adrianacantisani  2 роки тому

      Hi, Sorry if I'm writing this twice... I just answered and the answer disappeared... youtube mystery! Anyway, I just wanted to say that ignoring a behaviour really depends on the age of the child. In my video I talk about very young children. The older children become, the more they have to understand and accept the consequences of their behaviours. Have you spoken to the teachers at school about what's going on? Perhaps you can find a strategy with them that can be implemented both at home and at school.

    My four year old has been obsessed with the word "kill" for about a year now. At first he would say it without context but now he uses it as a threat. I admit I've sometimes reacted way too emotionally in desperation and now he knows it sometimes gets him attention. I'm about to have a second child and my 4yo is already talking about hurting the baby. He has his moments but he's really very loving, loves people, and isn't violent. Is it too late to get him to forget/move past this phrase? Do I just pretend he's not saying it? I don't want other kids to hear it and for it to cause him trouble keeping friends, or for it to be a source of division between him and his new sibling.

    • @adrianacantisani
      @adrianacantisani  2 роки тому

      Hi Katilyn, kill is really just a word. You have to see what meaning your child is giving it. Think about how many times we adults use that word or related words in different contexts. For example, " I was so embarrassed, I wanted to die!" or "She put her shoes up on my white couch... I could have killed her!" Things like that. It's very possible that he is using "kill" in this type of context: "get very angry with someone." Have you tried asking him what he means when he uses it as a threat? Ask him also what "kill" means. You may be surprised at his answer. If you feel that your son is suffering emotionally, talk to your pediatrician. (preparing for a sibling is a big event and not an easy one...he's literally heading for the unknown! Everyone tells him things like how exciting, you're going to have a baby bro/sis to play... isn't that great??' And he's thinking "is it great? I actually like being the star of the show..." Jealousy is normal but it is a big feeling.

    Hey what do i do in this ocasion, so my brothers 14 and 15 keep fighting and swearing infront of my little sister, my parents basically everyone and they dont care, So even if I did all that she will still hear those words and keep on saying them, Example, if my mom told her we cannot buy this toy or Tommorow we will eat donuts she will instantly swear at her and i cannot take it and im trying to teach her not to swear but it just does not work, nothing works because she keeps hearing those words. And she is going to grow up like that and i cant take it, its like everyone cares but nobody does anything! She is 5 and like 30% of her vocabulary is like that. I tried everything, telling my brothers not to talk like that infront of her, helping me, they seem like they care but nobody does nothing they just forget about everything. Can you please advice me on what should i do???? I really care about her shes my sister you know i cant just leave her like that. Please help.

      Hi, you're right when you say your sister will keep learning and using those words if everyone around her uses them.... but in the end, they are just words.... what I feel may be more important is what is pushing her to swear... the frustration she is feeling, I think that may be the thing to concentrate on first.

      At such a young age he is most likely repeating what he's hearing so my first suggestion is to make sure the adults at home are not using foul language. The next thing is just to ignore it. He is probably swearing because he is getting a response from you/parents. If you ignore it, the bad word just becomes another word. Once he sees the response he gets is the same as when he says table, for example, he'll most likely stop.
