Thank you for wearing your habit. It is a sign that you follow our Lord. I so appreciate that you stand up for Christ and are a beacon in this troubled world 👍🙏❤️
I love when I see sisters on the streets! It brings such joy to our days. Sometimes, I hope they don't think I'm creepy for "staring" at them haha. Thank you for wearing your habit, I love the channel!
I live in historically Catholic country. I say historically because nowadays it's much less Catholic in practice. But one can still see friars walking the street, and even more often religious sisters wearing a habit.
For me, as a diocesan (Peoria) priest oblate of St. Benedict, it is a privilege to wear the collar, my scapular of St. Benedict under my shirt (over my tee shirt) and the medal. We are not angels, we NEED these external sacramentals. Oh, by the way, the habit does NOT look like a dress. The Benedictine habit is manly. PAX.
Oh, you change the Journey record to U2. I think we have to make the difference in the middle of the world. Using the habit or the clerical or the cassock is a big sign that we’re against the stream. We have to do the difference. Thanks to do the difference. God bless you.
Well, it is medievil garb! I've worked many years in social justice and social services work with plenty of inspiring Religious who wear contemporary style clothes with and without some uniformity. All good of course! They tend to be more comfortable and those around them more at ease as well. And everyone gets to know who they are with wonderful respect no less. We are all workers in the vineyard and equal and special in the eyes of the Lord. The way it actually should be! Peace 🙌
@@allgoodinthebrotherhood Awesome. As a woman who works with horses I have been plagued by small pockets that barely fit my wallet, phone, and horse treats. Having pockets that could fit a whine bottle sounds wonderful
Hola Fray, a mi al principio me parecia raro ver una persona en su habito, pero comenze a ir mas a Santa Anita donde esta un monasterio Franciscano y pues ya es muy normal para mi, de que orden es usted? paz y bien.
A Dominican once told me that they can wear clerics on occasions when wearing their habit as per usual would be impractical or inappropriate, but wearing "street clothes" (What do priests, etc. call "civvies" anyway?) would also be inappropriate or maybe just not their preference. Is there a similar practice for Benedictines, at least those ordained deacons or priests?
As you go up the profession ladder does your habit change ? Until final profession .Also does the Abbot and Prior and other leaders wear the same as you?
@rosiea8886 the only difference you will see in the habit is with novices who do not wear the hood (called a cowl). Otherwise we are all the same. The Abbot, however, does wear a cross over his habit to distinguish him.
@d.o.7784 yes, we can go visit family or friends for a few days at Christmas and then 2 weeks during the summer. Visitors are always welcome to come here as well.
I've known what monks look like for most of my life. Not sure when and how I learned that. Many months ago on another YT channel, I saw a guy dressed similarly. My first reaction was surprise that a monk was running around in public places. Turned out he's a friar which was a new concept to me. I thought you all never left your secluded compounds. Do you have matching outerwear and special athletic wear? If someone doesn't fit the standard sizes, does the manufacturer do custom made clothes?
@chronos401 we can leave yes, though that is not the case for every religious community. Our habits are custom made so size isn't a problem. We don't have specific athletic wear, just regular t-shirt and shorts
Any shoe or other garment requirements ? Thank you for your tube posts ! Love connecting with a part of Catholicism that I know little. I’m going to Italy next week, going to again visit Norcia. (As you know “home” of St. Benedict)
I don't understand you seem like your a parson who would wed and have a family.. 🤔 interesting..could you leave and live a regular like. With going to Sunday church like other people.?
@OLCarmel I certainly could be suited for married life, but that is not God's calling for me. He has called me to be a monk and priest for His Kingdom and people. And now that I have taken vows, no, I could not leave, unless there are extreme reasons or dire circumstances.

An awesome witness! Thank you!
Well done Bro! Great job and well done on your witness
I haven't seen Benedictine monks outside a priory or monastery in the UK.
When I was an Oratorian we went to the 8th grade class bowling party and we bowled in cassock and sash. The kids loved it.

Funny thing I would ask the question "Who is that?" and then mentally go down the list religious orders and play "Match that Habit"
Good to see the Welsh flag 🏴
👍👏🙏🙏
they should be seen more in public in the habit because this is what sets them apart and a marker that they are dedicated to Jesus.

@peterpatrick620 thank you! And yes I do my own laundry. And I probably should wash my habit more often lol

Interesting video and good point about representing Christ in public by your habit. Doesn't it get hot though?
@zzzaaayyynnn it can get quite hot yes, but we just accept it as an occupational hazard lol
