Practically everything he said has either exceedingly moronic (hopefully on purpose) or has little to nothing to do with why someone should/would want to learn a language.
      I mean christ..
      1. all languages change over time
      2. declining birthrates have nothing to do with wanting to learn a language (Especially for Japanese which is a pretty niche language already - compared to english/french/spanish/mandarin)
      3. Understanding what is being said doesn't make a good show bad, it merely helps you see trash more easily for what it is and makes you appreciate masterpieces more.

@@TheCatnipCinemaI'm not fluent but my understanding is you use different conjugations, honorifics, words, etc depending on who you're speaking with and the setting... generally there's polite and casual speech and then there's honorific speech and there may even be more levels than that. So for instance Japanese uses honorifics like -san -chan, etc after a name....san is usually used as an honorific after most people's names as a way to show respect for someone you don't know or who is in a higher position to you....but there are others too. And you also change the speech in other ways like I said changing some words or conjugating the ending (verb) and or certain adjectives differently. I'm far from an expert in Japanese but the little I know is stuff like desu and masu at the end of a sentence is for polite speech and leaving it off would seem casual or impolite to someone you don't know well or are subject to like a boss or teacher....
