It is nice to see humanity work on projects like this. Many countries working together to gain insight into our universe and our place in it. Very cool indeed! Humanity at its finest in a world where often our humanity seems to have gone missing.
@@OmmerSyssel Nice try. I do not consider feminists fanatics. In fact, it was the suffrage movement in the first half of last century that pushed for and gained such basic human rights as the right to vote, divorce and to be in control of their own destinies. I started sending cards and notes to my bestie who lives in New York. And he sends me fun cards and stickers. It’s become a pandemic tradition and it makes me smile every time. I also started sending fun postcards to family and friends who live close but I’m not able to see as often as I’d like. It’s nice. Just an idea. As always, stay safe, stay healthy. Tomorrow we’ve got docs coming up about mega dams&canals, jackals of the Serengeti and Amazon. Don’t worry - not a mashup - three new docs and they’re pretty awesome.
Guy in city: Im a truck driver ( puffing his chest) Alfredo: dude hold my beer, the truck i drive can easily move your house. will i walk beside it Hobby shop: Maaaaaaaan we need some of these things.
Yeah sure, Austria's highest mountain (Grossglockner) it's ONLY 3.800 meters, the Alma basecamp is at 2.900mts and the antennas are on 5.000mts... (I have ride bicycles on 4.200mts)
Really like these documentaries. But the hypoxia thing is way overstated. 5000 meters is not in the death zone. Both Everest base camps are above 5k meters and they don't use oxygen in base camp.
It's still a bad idea to operate heavy machinery at that altitude without acclimatizing unless you have O2. I went to Everest base camp, the trek starts at about the same altitude as this guy's drive, but we took most of a week to get there. I did fine with the altitude, but when we drove up Mauna Kea a few years later, the altitude hit me hard.
clearly they put the wrong people in charge of their 10 million euros/telescope, next time they should call PERRY THE YOU TUBE EXPERT !! seriously did it ever cross your mind that this is clearly not your home sound system and if they didn't do that they might have a damn good reason !!
Silly question, but why don't they just build extra antennas, instead of moving the current ones around? The first thing that comes to mind is cost. But I can't imagine that constantly relocating multiple antennas is cheap either.
Absolutely love these documentaries, but absolutely abhor the overly dramatic scripting that's so typically American. Everything is a "crisis", everything is an "impending doom". Facts and visuals of actual people doing their actual jobs, in actual conditions, will do.
Jonathan Lau agreed, the overly dramatic scripting makes these documentaries almost unwatchable. The music doesn’t help either. I just wish the producers trusted their audience enough to know they don’t need the dramatics to emotionally buy into these programs. The knowledge is enough.
Agreed, they have shows for people who want that, they are called uhm let me think, Uhm. Oh yes I got it dramas. LOL. It’s like this whole genre of show to satisfy that craving. Although maybe you are right, maybe every PhD thesis could do with a little pepping up by injecting some drama? Maybe some car chases? Who knows. Maybe it will take off.
I wonder why they didn't put the antennas on rails like some other setups. If they have to move a bunch of them twice a year it seems easier to just put down a few miles of rail.
With this dramatic script, you would think they are operating on Mars or something and its life critical work or some nonsense you find in Hollywood movies, _"If we do not move this antenna, everyone on this planet will die!"_
These can see 10 billion light years away...as if theres anyway to know such number...it could just as easily be 100 light years away. But 10 billion sounds magical and special.
I wonder how much altitude difference there is between the antennae locations. If it's minimal, couldn't they use a permanent track system underneath them all?
That difference is minimal. Anyway, there are 10 different array configurations of the antennas, from the most compact, where all antennas are located within less than 200 meters, to the largest, spanning 16 km. The antenna pads are distributed over patterns of approximately spiral shape. Using tracks was dismissed during the preparation studies, also due to the possibility of earthquakes damaging the tracks.
I am wondering why the transporter had to be reset two times. One would think that resetting the transporter would be the first thing to do in attempting to troubleshoot the second problem. It was the problem with the first failure to supply power to the first telescope. Logic would dictate that because a working telescope was transported to the new location and during the final positioning maneuvers the system shut down; it seems reasonable to simply reboot the transporter first before checking other possibilities. The power cable probably has a loose ground allowing RF to produce noise to the system control microprocessors triggering a fault shutdown. IMHO
moving a tracking station is always risky. Here the dish is on top of a mountain at the edge of the stratosphere mask must be warn at all times and in extreme cases space suits are needed here too there is no air here so they have to bring it with them because they are on the edge of space.
I dont get why they spread out all the antennas just because of winter. How in the hell does spreading out all the antennas make them winterized. I just cant wrap my head around it
they need to let some air out of the tires because of the heat, and thats a heavy load, and tires and things need to release some air out of the tires.
its funny. If this relocating was in China it would be in all national tv named "Amazing China achievement". And here in Chile this is just another day at work....
There were no actual errors or problems whatsoever. The documentary people come up with them or 'cook' them rather so they can have content. In this documentary, they kind of did an overkill. Too obvious.
Hello good afternoon thank you for being beautiful thank you for being wonderful I hope you have a great dane. Goodnight the greatness in you is beautiful

Thumbs-up for Alfredo 👍
I wish I could have a job that I genuinely love like all of the people that are filmed in these documentaries.

i'm always waiting for notification from this channel..

Mee too🧠👏👏👏🧠

Another priceless documentary
Well documented.
Excellent job by the mechanical engineers, the radio frequency engineers and entire team
Alfoehdo: WTF is going on with this transporter !?!?
Transporter: I need a 5 min break. " *Activate Safe Mode* !"
Just like my tow truck's hydraulics. Sometimes everything just stops working and a 5min break solves it.
what an incredibly oddly specific job. love your videos. they’re so good
Wow, one of my favorite Narrators MARK ROSSMAN had another job well done! Congratulations to the whole Production!

Again, someone please inform the scriptwriter to back off the melodrama . Thank you.
Fully agree with you
It seems most Us audiences dig it, biker docos are worse lol
Still less dramatic than US news 🙄
I never knew the antennas had to be moved to account for the seasons know I do great upload indeed
It's a huge informative and knowledgeable videos thanks free documentary.. bringing such videos front of us...

Why don't they Mount the antennas on rails and move them automatically when needed? The positions are fixed?

I wonder how much altitude difference there is between the antennae locations. If it's minimal, couldn't they use a permanent track system underneath them all?
Check 5:08
Felipe AF - isn't that from base camp to the antennae site though, rather than the difference between each antenna? Unless I'm missing something.
They probably don’t always take the same antenna between the same 2 locations, and also they could be making new locations around the area
That difference is minimal. Anyway, there are 10 different array configurations of the antennas, from the most compact, where all antennas are located within less than 200 meters, to the largest, spanning 16 km. Repositioning the antennas because of the wind and extreme weather, not because of any scientific research purposes
I would have thought it got colder up on the mountains, unless they mean 40C of change within a day or 2. Surprised how many telescopes there are
Check the fuses first!
Transporter: I break down every mission.
Chile, is is hot or is it cold. Which is it!!!
At that altitude, both cold and hot within an hour.
oiiiiiiiii amigo parabéns meu like
I would love to work at a place like that besides working out the in the field peace and quiet
If you showed the antenna area without any context, someone could def think it’s Mars
the least they could do is let him dub his own voice, the guy knows English, pay him a little to do his own voice
How did they get it up there I'm guessing they must have built it up there
this is so sci-fi level of things
I dont get why they spread out all the antennas just because of winter. How in the hell does spreading out all the antennas make them winterized. I just cant wrap my head around it

This documentary has a great subject. Plenty interesting. Is that good enough? NO! The have to shoot it like an episode of "The People's Court".
You should make a mega pit stop for the great transporter

ONE QUESTION DO THEY REPLACE THE AIR FILTER IN THOSE HIGE CARGO TRUCKS 🤨🤔
Darun.,.........(excellent)
Pretty sure that air pollution isn't a factor in radio astronomy. Now radio emissions and interference...
they need to let some air out of the tires because of the heat, and thats a heavy load, and tires and things need to release some air out of the tires.
My question is how damn much are they getting paid!
At least 1.
Anybody know how much money (in US dollars) these guys make per move or hourly?
Looks like Alfrado's oxygen tank was low.
wtf
Now you know where your satellites are located and I'm not talking about the ones on a balloon
Bring a thermos of coffee and cookies.
I had a weird thought, they could be doing this on Mars one day!…awesome 😊
Well they’re gonna need communications and at least they won’t weigh the same....from sci-fi films comes ideas to build in real life......
Isn’t the biggest widest cluster of radio masts in northern South Africa and bordering countries? 💫
That is the SKA and is still under construction.
Problems on 10mil euros antenna and transporter, solution : turn in off and on again. Very well...
its funny. If this relocating was in China it would be in all national tv named "Amazing China achievement". And here in Chile this is just another day at work....
