Yess I think this doesn't get enough hype
Wait have you guys never seen the movie Wild Nights With Emily that came out last year? Emily and Sue were likely together their whole lives- something that Sue's daughter confirmed after Emily's death. A lot of Emily's poems were actually letters to Sue and her name was erased from them when she was posthumously published- something that archivists at Harvard figured out more recently by analyzing the original documents.
The tone of Dickinson was hard to get into for me, but after a while it grew on me. Some historians believe that she may have had epilepsy, and I kind of think that might be what they're trying to show when she suddenly has difficulties with her vision or day dreams and gets confused? Seizure auras are really disorienting (speaking from experience).
But I don't know I've also probably just thought about this for way too long.

Thank all of the Gods for the curing restoration and preservation of historical documents and their forensic science, EMISUE was recovered and so was the true Emily. Now we just have to wait for the old and conservative Dickinson scholars to die so the new generation can arise.

Saw the gif of them under tree back in 2019 and was hooked, and have been a fan of Hailee and Ella ever since. Season two was slow, then split the lark came, followed by Emily’s rage filled eyes watching Sue and Sam, and thank goodness for that finale. So glad you both are enjoying it!

It is very accurate, as far as Emily and Susan’s relationship. Read the book “Openly Me Carefully”, if you want pretty much ONLY the lesbian relationship poems and notes between Sue and Emily.

While Benjamin Newton is based on a real person, their relationship on Dickinson Is not accurate representation of their real life relationship. Just like the fictional character, the real Ben did work for Emily's father while he was a law student and he did spend a lot of time at the Dickinson house with Emily and her family members. However, it is much more likely that he was just her close friend and mentor than the "non-husband" he promised to be during their "non-proposal" on the show. In her writing and it all seemed pretty platonic. She referred to him as her "earliest friend" and "the first of my own friends." She also described him as "my dying tutor." and "an elder brother. Also in real life Ben got married in 1851 and just correspond with Emily even though he was struggling with his health. According to the Emily Dickinson Museum. Emily actually found out about his death in 1853 after reading about it in the newspaper three days later. There is next to no evidence that confirms that their relationship was as romantic as it was in the series, but there is no doubt that Ben had a profound influence on Emily.
I think the point the show tried to make with Ben and Sam, was more about Emily and Sue truly and honestly making an effort to be sisters, respect the marriage institution and Austin, by looking to move on, however, history suggests they failed.
Season two is so smart and many subtle comentary on current political time. And so smart writing. Love story propagates very slow but I like how the season two ended. Good good show.

Hey! Loved the video! Just a reminder that Evelyn Hugo isn't a lesbian! She says in the novel several times that she does feel attraction to men, she identifies as bisexual! Aside from that, loved the video! I was doubting if I should start Dickinson, but now I am sure imma watch it asap
Also if you think Emily and Sue’s relationship is interesting, watch the movie “Vita & Virginia”. Virginia Woolf was also another historic female writer carrying on with her best, but their relationship was even steamier 😉

Season 2 was such a drag unfortunately, so much that I stopped watching for a while. I hate that it literally took all season for us to finally see Sue and Emily together and then it all just felt rushed and sort of forced in the last episode, like we were just expected to instantly forgive Sue’s behavior? Not only cheating on Austin (who has actually really won me over) but also on Emily who is supposed to be the love of her life? Sue’s speech was nice and all but still fell short in my opinion. I really do hope they give us more in season 3

Sue and Emily are together until she dies than Sue is the one who prepares her body for the funeral. If I remember high school English correctly; which is a big if I smoked a lot of weed back then but loved Emily Dickinson’s work
Austin's last lover was Mable Todd, responsible for making it possible to publish Emily by heavily editing and censoring to make it suitable for the era. Mable was friends with Sue, they ended their friendship because of differences on how to handle Emily's work, property and money she tried to take from Sue's children (Dickinson inheritance)

The show plays freely with those types of things and while I like the show for its humor and refreshing POV I don't like that it gives people some wrong ideas about Emily's life :/
