The whole ‘incorporating modern elements/music into a period piece‘ thing reminds me of Sofia Coppola and Baz Luhrmann.... and if _Dickinson_ is anything like _Marie Antoinette_ or _Romeo + Juliet,_ I’m def here for it 😝

I saw the crazy amounts of ads about this show and was like "Oh no... not another Batwoman... I can't handle this disappointment again" but honestly I'm going to check it out after this review.
Batwoman and this is completely different. One is about a fictional character, another is about a real person who Happens to be one of the greatest poets of all time. So even if the show was bad, atleast don't disrespect it or it's main character by comparing it to a garbage show and blaming it on wOkE. And yes it is woke, but much needed woke. It's the 1800s.

It’s... a weird show. When I first watched it, I thought it was going to be telling the story of Emily and her life, and the forbidden love, and all that Jazz. I didn’t much care for historical accuracy, just that it was accurate as possible to her character. This adaption if it is... fucking weird to say the least. I don’t know if it’s bad per-say. Just unexpected? Personally I dislike it. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. They could’ve easily given modern ideas to a historical show without giving it the language and the slang of modern times. It’s just weird and cringey with that sort of dialogue. Plus... Emily is a fucking weirdo, and not in the good “oh she’s accurate to the real person”, like, no. She’s just... not presented well, imo. They tried too hard to make her “not like other girls”.
@Somya I don’t think that’s the case. There’s plenty of critically acclaimed movies/shows that people don’t like, and that’s fine. I don’t like the show. I don’t like the pacing, nor the weird dialogue (which is supposed to be stylistic, I know). I can acknowledge it’s beautifully directed, and that the cast was chosen okay, but I also have a right to my opinion in saying that Emily (I don’t feel) was accurately portrayed especially considering the real Emily had some severe anxiety issues. But that is my opinion. I am glad you like the show so much!
