So I was actually thinking about this a lot and doing a lot of research. So probably through Plus Ultra and S.E.A and Colonel Impey Barbicane, and Jules Verne who was a member of both plus ultra and S.E.A. It's possible that even S.E.A. transforms into plus ultra during the 20th century. This is especially true since Amelia Earhart doesnt appear to be a member of S.E.A. but plus ultra. Non fictional characters mostly seem to be members of plus ultra, and S.E.A has a predominance of fictional characters.

i would interpret paris space mountain as an even earlier mission than florida, mainly because of the steampunk theme. that would be why it's called mission 2, because it's the actual second mission into space. it would explain why its rougher and things are bigger, as technology hadn't advanced as far to give a smoother ride for the tourists. but awesome connections! especially for a ride that tends to seem a little straightforward :)

The original one was, it was a historical look at the start of an alternate universe where we have spaceflight in the 1800's, fits in with the tomorrowland storyline from the movie and book universe, and possibly even the start of plus ultra. Colonel Impey Barbicane made space mining a thing obviously in the 1800's so this likely lead to tomorrowland since Jules Verne was a member of that society and finding the alternate timeline.

When the CA Disneyland version of Space Mountain originally opened the sequence where you have the long ascend up was way different than the warping space projection we have now. It used to have glowing blue rectangle mirror boxes and glass end to end on the sides and above you that had tiny blinking stars (light bulbs) inside them. It was an old 70's "infinity" effect that was popular and used a lot back then. This was accompanied with strange ambient space sounds along with different pitch "boink" sound effects here and there. Wish someone had a photo of this. I have never found one online yet. This effect was there for about 6 years or so then later replaced with a laser tunnel of lines that rotated around you and now is the one you show with the space warp projections.

    • @cayoooga
      @cayoooga 6 років тому +9

mokthemagicman, I remember the glowing blue mirror boxes on the second lift-hill in Disneylands' Space Mountain during its early years. I liked that effect. I too have looked for images of that part of the attraction with no success. I also remember while in the interior queue being able to view bits of the action inside of the attraction with rocket vehicles whizzing by in the darkness. If I remember correctly, those "windows" were covered/sealed up when the FedEx overlay happened. In addition, I remember the open view from the load area of Florida's Space Mountain as well.

    • @kendallbrown9301
      @kendallbrown9301 6 років тому +9

i'm glad somebody mentioned this. i remember the light blue "infinite mirror" effect of the early years, as we climbed upwards. i always assumed that was to represent the earth's "blue skies", as we blasted off from the surface of the planet and rose through the atmosphere. when we broke through the edge of the atmosphere into the blackness of space, that's when the "fun" began! :)

Wonderful! Space Mountain has been a favorite of mine since I was a child (which was a very long time ago). Something to touch on in the future would maybe be the brief time that FedEx sponsored Space Mountain at Disneyland. The story was more along the lines of a shipping center during that incarnation. FedEx robots, packages, etc.

It was a capsule ejected from a canon (that's why it was opened to air and very fast), like in a story of Jules Verne. We were the testers for a launch to the moon (and back) from the "Baltimore Gun Club".
Our park does not have a Tomorrow Land, it's Discovery Land here, and most things, including Space Mountain, were themed with steam punk ideas.
Mission 2 made me miss the first version, and Hyperspace mountain makes me miss Mission 2 :(

The original ride was based on the movie Le Voyage Dans La Lune by Georges Méliès, one of the first big films and also consequently made by a frenchman. The story for this film was based on a story by Jules Verne. It makes sense this story was put in the Space Mountain in Paris.
I was too young to experience it back then, but my parents told me the iconic moon with a rocket in the eye showed up, but I am not sure about that. I wish i would've been able to see it for myself though :)

I never really considered the idea that each Space Mountain has a different function, but now that you mention it, it certainly seems to be a trend.
Space Station 77: Logistics and shipping, based off of FedEx branding, and the utilitarian look of the loading area.
Starport Seven-Five: Point A to point B transportation, like an airline, for reasons stated in video.
Hong Kong: This Mountain seems to be more like a sight-seeing version of Seven-Five. It's still primarily transporting passengers, but takes a much more scenic route.
Tokyo: This Mountain is completely different. It seems more high-tech, with sciencey effects everywhere. This Mountain also seems to be the only (contemporary, not including Paris) *terrestrial* Mountain. It seems to be dealing with experimental technology, including teleportation.
Paris: It's just an old-timey gun blown out of proportion. Not from the same time period as the other Mountains, and a lot more fantastical than actually trying to be part of a canon.
I also can't see them all being connected physically. The entire construction pictured is probably just Space Station 77.

I believe there is one more ride to the Space Mountain Canon which is Mission: SPACE because if you see at the side of the Rocket Ship it's called X-1 and then in Mission: SPACE the name of the ship is X-2. this could just be a nod to space mountain but no , i believe this would take place before both both the Space Mountain in Disneyland and Disney World then this story going to Mars happens and then would come Space Mountain: Mission 2 obviously you try to go to the edge of the universe and last while the mission at the edge of the universe you attract the "ghost"and then finally Ghost Galaxy. That is my theorie plus all the stuff from the video.

Disneyland Paris’s Space Mountain was originally called De Terre A La Lune (forgive me if I misspelled it) and it was based off of one of Jules Verne’s novels until 2005 when it was converted into Mission 2 which can have some speculation from there
Edit: also if you don’t know who Jules Verne is, he was a French novelist in the late 1800s and wrote science fiction books, and some of his books were Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and From Earth to Moon

Wow! I had no idea the Paris version was so intense! I rode it when I was 27 and felt super embarrassed and ashamed over my weakness and cowardliness. My folks swore that I rode the one in Anaheim when I was 3 and loved it so much I wanted to ride it again. Surely something tame enough that a three year old could not only be allowed on, but want to ride it again MUST be safe for adults. I had my eyes shut the entire time (which may explain why I didn't even know of the loops or inversions). When the ride was over, I felt like someone had beat me up by punching me in the head senseless with boxing gloves. I found my earring in my hair, which was all in my face. I couldn't move, but knew I had to so the next guests could ride. I found myself at the nearest bench a few feet (sorry, "meters") away from the rocket car. I sat there in tears trying to recover, trying to figure out how on earth 3yo me could not only be allowed to ride it, but not have any physical issues with it. Now I know. This was not the same ride. Don't think I could ever ride any other version of this, simple due to this traumatic experience.

I wonder how many well-traveled riders get surprised by that bait-and-switch! I've only ridden the original Orlando Space Mountain, which has sudden turns and small drops that make it a bit more jerky than the Anaheim one, but the Paris one sounds like an actually pretty intense coaster.

Are the Space Mountains in Tokyo and Hong Kong just the same ride as Disneyland's or do they have their own special contributions to the theory?
Also, four designs at the shop? I'm only seeing three.

Anyone else ever read the space mountain comic? It was about how space mountain was a time travel base that created some sort of field allowing for rockets to time travel. It involved paradoxes and eventually the villain manipulates time to turn space mountain into a “bad” space mountain, with it being red and black instead of white. Maybe these are all different versions of space mountain from different parallel universes?

My first time on space mountain ghost galaxy at Disney land.. I remember it so well...
I was about 5 or 6 years old, I was with my grandma, my grandpa, my brother, my aunt, my uncle, and my 2 cousins. I was pretty scared and I thought I was gonna die for some reason, so we get on the ride, and I was next to my grandma or my aunt, so the ride starts and I tuck my head under the whole ride, when I brought my head up I saw the “ghost” “alien” thing and I was so scared and soon enough it was over and i was relived I didn’t die

That was a great video, I wish you did not cut away from from the POV of Mission 2. I was having fun watching it. I honestly thought this was going to be a John Fayette or his descendants in space. You should read the Imagineering book on the Mountains, I forgot the actual name of it. It explains that the Magic Kingdom Park version is a planetary mission through a solar system, possibly ours. Funny because I did not see any planets when I worked there or when riding it, but okay whatever. :) The Disneyland, original Tokyo Disneyland & Hong Kong Disneyland versions are a journey through hyperspace. But the term Hyperspace had not yet been coined so the Imagineers used the term Superspace. Also, you have to remember that description Jim Hill is talking about refers to the 1977 version of Space Mountain. Back then it did not have the strobe tunnel between the A and B Lift. Instead, it was a dark tunnel with flying comets or something and a repeating swooshing sound. I think it can still be found in the Tokyo Disneyland version. I think that is what was originally charging up the rocket trains in the description. Now go back and find Space Mountain connections to John Fayette and make another video, please. :)

The Paris space mountain's facade looks the way it does because it was originally based on the Jules Verne novel "From the Earth to the Moon," more specifically the silent film adaptation of the novel. Thus, it has a more steampunk design and the "shooting" part was originally a giant cannon that shot the "rocket" in the same way that the rocket is shot out of a giant cannon in the movie/novel. It originally had a smoke effect that made it seem like you really were a cannonball.

A Starport and Space Station if both set in Space are one and the Same. A Starport is just more focused on the port kind of side having more "Docks" and whatnot while a Space Station also usualy features Habitation Sections ... in case of Tourism its Hotels, Resturants, Parks, etc.
To go further with the Starport, Starports are usualy set on Planets as a Centre of Interplanetary to Planetary Transportaion. Depending on its location this could mean the usual Space/Star-Port kind of Stuff combined with a Trainstation, Shipping Port, Airport and Road Connection. Sometimes the Starport/Spaceport is even set in two pieces, one being Planetside and as in connection with a Space Elevator (If the Correct Location and Planetary Conditions are given) to a actual Space Port or Station.

Would you ever be willing to do a video on the Society of Adventurers and Explorers and how it connects across the parks? Like Merryweather Pleasure from Pleasure Island connecting to the Adventurer's club which then connects to the Jungle Cruise and Skipper's Canteen and then to Henry Mystic from Mystic Manor or Harrison Hightower from Tokyo DisneySea? It's a lot and takes noticing a lot of tiny details but you would be my favorite person ever if you did that!

Interesting! Where does the image of the five Space Mountains linked together come from? (It looks like it may be a model.) ....... I always assumed the solar charger in '77 was the second lift, which for many years had a lot of mirrors on either side. (I think it was redone sometime in the '80s). Interesting video!

EDIT: You used the same source I did, that's funny. I didn't know about the detail you had on Mission 2, that's awesome! But besides that, our info was the same. There's some story to write! I'm excited.

Originally, Paris’s Space Mountain was based on From The Earth And The Moon ( hence his steampunk look) . You see , Discoveryland ( Paris’s Tomorrowland) was based on the past’s vision of the future instead of our vision, as a way of circunavigating The obsolescence issue than the other Tomorrowlands wad suffering . However , the refurbished version we know as mission 2 is likely fitting your Hypothesis.

this is on space mountain at disney world.
on my first time on this ride it stopped bc APPARENTLY someone jumped off but idk if that’s what actually happened bc going 20 miles an hour is kind of fast but i guess not when you see people moving in the light bc when they stopped it at first it was in the dark and people on the other side were moving and in all we were stuck right at the part where you go up and your about to plung down but we stopped and anyways i took a bunch of pictures and video and stuff and there were two more people with us that we didn’t know (it was me my two sisters and my dad, my mom held our bags lol) and we each got 3 fastpasses and the other two people gave us their fastpasses and we were leaving in a few days so whatever we didn’t use we gave to our sister bc she was doing the Disney College Program and yeah. at disneyland if you get stuck on california screaming (rip) ((i call it california sleeping bc my sister and i were like ima just take a nap)) you get ice cream and a bottle of water. omg disneyland also has good food and disney worlds is kind of nasty smh.
