    Got a 2012 Prius V- had it lifted and ready to roll. It's comfortable and works well for myself and my 2 puppies.
    I have a fridge - toilet - and can cook inside. Ready to hit the road for more adventures.

      Hi there. Thanks for the kind words. As for the inverter. I used a Renogy 2000 watt and essentially wired an extension cord with an outdoor adapter under the rear of car. It has a cap on it which allows it to be water resistant. In the video yes, the awning is just hand made however I now have a different setup which you can see them on my Instagram @PriusCamping. The awning I use now is made by Roam. Check out the page and message me there.

    For your ceiling cargo hammock, we can see the hook at 1:39 where it's attached to the rear of your car. Did you have to drill that into the frame? Or were the loops already there? If you had to drill it in, can you walk us through how you decided on the placement of where to drill?

    • @JonathanCWard
      @JonathanCWard  3 роки тому +1

      I did, just for added support. I just tried to center it about where I thought it needed to be and went for it. After all, the hooks are only as strong as the plastic. Still holding up however.

    Hi Jonathan, nice video! do you ever take the inverter out from that storage bin? Doesn't it get hot down there? Thank you!!

    • @JonathanCWard
      @JonathanCWard  3 роки тому +2

      seniors4weed hey there. It does not. I recommend getting a higher wattage inverter so it does not push it much. For example, I use 1200 or less watts usually. So having a 2000-2200 inverter is quite helpful. I do prop the little flap in the rear of the floor open while using just to allow a little more air but have found that I do not have to do this.

    • @JonathanCWard
      @JonathanCWard  7 місяців тому

      Hi. Feel free to message me on my PriusCamping Instagram. The Prius has a vent on the side behind the bumper. This allowed me to route the cord from the spare tire area out the vent to the bottom of the car where I installed an outdoor shore power type plug. In doing so, when I plug something into it, it is plugged directly into my inverter.

    What year is this prius, and how do you make it flat after lowering the back seat? Or, did you remove the back seats somehow?
    I have 2014 prius, but when I lower the back seats they are still at an angle. I need it flat to sleep comfortably.
    Thanks for this great and detailed video.

    • @JonathanCWard
      @JonathanCWard  3 роки тому +3

      Bokismoki77 hi. Simply laying the seats down in the Gen 3 make it flat. Once you lay in it, the very slight angle you speak of goes flat. I also use a piece of 1/4 plywood to bridge the gap between the flat seat and the front seat that is slid all the way forward.

    Does your inverter stay cool enough? Is it vented? The ones I’ve seen are recommended to not be closed in but exposed to keep cooler. Apparently higher wattages produce lots of heat. Is that your experience?

    • @JonathanCWard
      @JonathanCWard  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Mason. It does stay fairly cool. I have it lifted so air can circulate fully around it. I also open the back flap of the storage area and prop it open so it can receive additional air from inside the cabin when under a heavier load.

      Itdoesnt Matter hi. Mine is a 2013, also known as Gen III. Personal belief is that the Gen III is the best generation for Prius Camping due to many things. I feel they tend to have a little more space at least by experience rather than numbers on paper than the Gen II or Gen IV. They are made from 2010-2015. And it would be my recommendation. Did you do any math on that inverter sizing? Trying to figure out the proper size for mine. I heard there was a 120 amp fuse on the 12v battery which means you really can't pull more than ~1600w. Have you run into any issues?

    • @JonathanCWard
      @JonathanCWard  3 роки тому

      Hey Josh, sorry I’m just seeing this. I use a 2000 watt inverter with a 140amp breaker between the inverter and secondary 12 volt battery. Giving me approx 1650 watts usable. Which is technically as hard as you should ever run the inverter to keep it under 85% threshold. No issues, and it has been wonderful. I typically don’t use more than 1,300 watts cooking at 400-415 degrees on my induction.

      Hey there. I’m 5’10” and fit well. I’d imagine anyone close to 6’2” or above I would not recommend the bridge extension option. Instead, I’d recommend taking the headrest out of the passenger front seat. Sliding it forward. Lay it back and it will meet the backseat where it lays down. Then build up the front passenger seat to meet the level height. It would help extend it. Just to make you aware, this mattress is 77 inches. They offer an 82 inch version I believe in the same link. If he feels like he’s comfy on a 77 inch at home, then he’d be fine with this setup.

    Do you leave the ac or heater on overnight while you sleep? Does doing this hurt the battery in the long run? Degradation whatever they call it. I’m only asking since it’s an older Prius. Is the battery still holding it’s charge well? I’m shopping around for either a compact cargo van, an EV or a Prius. The Prius I really like the fact you can leave on over night with climate control on. I heard it only uses a gallon of gas. The EV I’m interested in is a bolt but I haven’t found anyone who sleeps in a bolt yet. I want to go either EV or Prius. I would buy new. I’m just trying to research which would be the Best Buy for me. Honestly I really would like something reliable. Of course toyota comes to mind. I’m assuming a 2020 Prius can stay on all night? And no I don’t want a RAV4 hybrid. Too big. I want something compact but can fit me laying down. I’m 5’9. I still want a compact daily driver vehicle.

    • @JonathanCWard
      @JonathanCWard  3 роки тому +3

      Joel Martinez Hey Joel. Will try to shoot you some info on this. You can absolutely leave the AC/Heat on at night. You put the car in “Ready” mode. This will allow the car to start the ICE engine and recharge the HV battery every once in a while throughout the night. It does not hurt the battery. I know people who have lived in their car over 5 years full time and use this feature with no issues to the battery. It uses approximately 1-1.5 gallons of fuel at night doing this.

    • @JonathanCWard
      @JonathanCWard  3 роки тому +3

      Joel Martinez I am 5’10” and with my setup find the Prius to be very comfortable. While the newer Prius’ still offer the leave on feature, you have to lock the doors (which we typically do anyway) or it will cut off in 45 minutes. That’s a new feature they added. Look into joining the “Prius Camping” group on Facebook. They’ll add you and you’ll be able to ask further questions and check out other’s setups as well. Glad you took the time to watch and ask these questions. I highly recommend picking up the Prius. This is my fourth one.

    How do I get those screens on your windows?

      Rachelle Espinoza Hi. They are made by Nigel over at CarShadesUK. In a few days, he will have a full blackout version available which I will be planning to do a video on. If you don’t want the blackout and want just the shades, they are currently available on his site.

      Belarusian American You’d hate to see my new setup. 😂 It’s more stuff, but actually less inside the car now. Picked up a hitch rack and cargo box. You can see more of that on my Instagram which is @PriusCamping. The link is in the description of the video.
