Lyrics:
Strike a pose
Strike a pose
Vogue (vogue, vogue)
Vogue (vogue, vogue)
Look around, everywhere you turn is heartache
It's everywhere that you go (look around)
You try everything you can to escape
The pain of life that you know (life that you know)
When all else fails and you long to be
Something better than you are today
I know a place where you can get away
It's called a dance floor
And here's what it's for
So
Come on, vogue
Let your body move to the music (move to the music)
Hey, hey, hey
Come on, vogue
Let your body go with the flow (go with the flow)
You know you can do it
All you need is your own imagination
So use it that's what it's for (that's what it's for)
Go inside for your finest inspiration
Your dreams will open the door (open up the door)
It makes no difference if you're black or white
If you're a boy or a girl
If the music's pumping it will give you new life
You're a superstar
Yes, that's what you are
You know it
Come on, vogue
Let your body groove to the music (groove to the music)
Hey, hey, hey
Come on, vogue
Let your body go with the flow (go with the flow)
You know you can do it
Beauty's where you find it
Not just where you bump and grind it
Soul is in the musical
That's where I feel so beautiful
Magical, life's a ball
So get up on the dance floor
Come on, vogue
Let your body move to the music (move to the music)
Hey, hey, hey
Come on, vogue
Let your body go with the flow (go with the flow)
You know you can do it
Vogue (vogue)
Beauty's where you find it (move to the music)
Vogue (vogue)
Beauty's where you find it (go with the flow)
Greta Garbo and Monroe

Grace Kelly, Harlow, Jean
Picture of a beauty queen
Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire
Ginger Rogers dance on air
They had style, they had grace
Rita Hayworth gave good face
Lauren, Katherine, Lana too
Bette Davis, we love you
Ladies with an attitude
Fellas that were in the mood
Don't just stand there, let's get to it
Strike a pose, there's nothing to it
Vogue, vogue
Ooh, you've got to
Let your body move to the music
Ooh, you've got to just
Let your body go with the flow
Ooh, you've got to

My mom said that when Madonna was making the music video for this, she went out to dance clubs and invited all the best dancers there. These were all just regular people, not actors. It's pretty amazing how she took the time to recruit regular people who inspired her. This just goes to show the point of the song- anyone can pose and dance and have style! You don't have to be a celebrity to shine!
M.J. would often walk the streets of Los Angeles looking for talented street dancers.
Before she recorded Vogue, Madonna met José Gutierrez e Luis Camacho underground ballroom dance duo, The House of Extravaganza, in a NY night club.
The other dancers were selected by casting.
Most of these dancers brought a class action lawsuit against Madonna and won.

@@marios1861 "When Madonna came out with her hit Vogue I knew it was over. She had taken a very specifically queer, transgender, Latino and African-American phenomenon and totally erased that context with her lyrics, 'it makes no difference if you're black or white, if you're a boy or a girl.' Madonna was taking in tons of money, while the Queen who actually taught her how to vogue sat before me in the club, strung out, depressed and broke. So if anybody requested Vogue or any other Madonna track, I told them, no, this is a Madonna-free zone! And as long as I'm DJing, you will not be allowed to vogue to the decontextualized, reified, corporatized, liberalized, neutralized, asexualized, re-genderized pop reflection of this dance floor's reality!"

I do not applaud David Fincher since the concept for this video was from Madonna herself and his best music videos are because of the concepts that Madonna gave to him (see express yourself). If you check the other videos he made with many other artists, they are all AVERAGE. Including freedom from George Michael: isn't it easy to have super models on your video to make it look good!?? Literally NO concept behind it, just pretty faces.
One of those Madonna songs where I can definitely see where Lady Gaga got some of her influence from. The spoken-word parts of this song remind me a lot of Born This Way in particular.
She copied Madonna so hard during the first 3 years of her career. Born this way sounds just like express yourself

Diana, Janet, Whitney, Mariah...there have been so many talented ladies but Madonna is in a category of her own
All of them brought something great to music history. Don't have to compare them to bring one of them down or something. They're all amazing. Madonna was at feeling the vibes of subculutrs and bringing them into mainstream, she was great at writing pop bangers. While Whitney's strengths were more the singing itself.
But it's all good, it's all different sides of a medal. Just as much as you need altos, sopranos and bass for a full choir, you need people with different talents for music
Talent-wise, those people that you mentioned are like court jesters compared to the brilliant artist that Madonna is.
Whitney is more talented than this h@g…..Shes in her own lane because none of those ladies can sing or has stage presence like her lmfaooooo. Now enjoy the video…..

The greatest of all, hands down. Her work wasn't all about shock value, she's a masterful entertainer who had a clear artistical vision and cared deeply about quality. Vogue is a good example of that, both song and video has an intent, the references are solid and the imagery was put together to be iconic and so it did. Fun pop music with hints of art, that's Madonna.
Madonna will always be the queen of pop. Gen Z arianators must respect that fact.

Everything should be viewed within the context of its time that it was made.
1990 was not the year that queer representation in the media was seen in a positive light, despite that - Madonna the biggest popstar decided this was important to show the world
Groundbreaker? GTFOH. Madonna is the poster child for the gentrification of black music. This is house music which is of course out of the black clubs in Chicago. Vogue- this was being done for years in black clubs, and the rap part of this song well I think we all know where that came from. You really need to do your research and homework.
@@ginasousabranco5637 so true but that's who supported all the clubs. Such good times!
And she's still pushing the limits, she's keeping true with herself even with all the ageism, critics, etc that she's constantly receiving. There are trolls but people have been harsh to Madonna since the very beginning of her career, so it's not something new to her to have detractors, they have told from 1984 that her career "would be over soon", and look at it now... she won't change who she is for anyone ✨

Haven't watched in some time, got reminded by a 'best' compilation, and had to watch again.
Had completely forgotten that when Mr. Suave & Debonair finally smiles - @ 3:38 - it is much like the sun breaking thru clouds.
Such iconic work by all concerned.
Un dieu !!!
Knowing that the dancers in this video came from the ballroom community: lived through the AIDs pandemic, survived brutality against the LGBTQ+ community, and pioneered a new form of dance that they weren't even given proper credit for. Congratulations to those back-up dancers that lived in the shadows but now get to be center stage.
preach
Yes
in the shadow? Did you watch this video? They are not back up dancers in this video. they are the co stars in. And they were very famous at that time because of the movie Truth or dare. I don't think any dancers at that time had this kind of exposure. I was 13 was the video came out, then thr tour and after the movie. These guys were stars at that time. And Madonna never took credit for the Voguing. She talked about the ball room at that time and Luis and José were credited in the press for introducing Madonna to this dance.
@@brunocollin3347 they could just say a thank you Madonna for supporting gays and being the reason gays are more accepted nowadays, but it's too fair for them
@@naurking5388 Yes, we thank her for being a decent human being
Every frame in this video could be a painting
this is a true masterpiece.
David Fincher is the director, one of the best working directors. He has made movies like Fight Club and the Social Network and made House of Cards. Real cool to see him make this video earlier in his career.
this song really gives different feelings i love it 💋
@3:41 I'm pretty sure that Ariana has sampled this part in yes,and 😩😩
Yes!!
omg IMAGINE IM SO EXCITED

This video is the definition of class and elegance!
Awsamazing Eden lol now go watch 'bitch I'm madonna'
Awsamazing Eden not two adjectives often associated with Madonna.
Keyth Danielsen Actually I hear those adjectives used quite often, and I must say I agree with the adjectives.
Exactly
Exactly
the fact that this was directed by david fincher is such a joint slay
♥️😜♥️
I didn't even know!!! That just makes it more orgasmicosmic! Is that a word? I don't care.
What does that mean in English?
Yes one of modern Hollywoods best directors!!!
Thanks for the phrase. I just made a loop on my tool belt for it.
How does this song only get better with time..
I hope they remaster this masterpiece and put it on 4K resolution.
It's impossible not to dance when you're listening to this song.
this is so true.
House Music, the Best!!!!
That's so true... Even I'm lie on bed, I still can't hold my feet to stop... 😂😂😂
So true .....
Right lmao ua-cam.com/video/ZLZ5NA7AlYg/v-deo.html
People are so hard on Madonna on social media but I am so happy others really do appreciate her art. Also she is one of the last ultimate living legends left, we must cherish her!
M was awesome in London last week
♥️👍
absolutely .. we love her so much
Im trying to figure out where the hate came from tbh.
@@nicolepadilla866all that nonsense plastic surgery she’s done to herself. Sis looks thwacked out. That’s why ppl are clowning her. She need to let herself just age gracefully 🤷🏾♀️
damn excellent work by David fincher
Nahhhh!!! Madonna gave him instructions, she decided on the concept, same for the Express Yourself video.
I swear, no music video directed by David Fincher ever ages.
When you have an acclaimed Hollywood director like David Fincher filming your music video, you’re bound to end up with glorious results.
Netflix gave me a 95% match for Pose and I thought my account was hacked lol. But I'm glad it did because I have a much greater understanding and appreciation of The LGBTQ community. Everyone in the world are just people no matter race gender or nationality.
Kinda sad you needed a Series like Pose to see that these people are just people 😀
But I’m glad you are more understanding
@@jolinalee3887 Im sorry if that's how I came off but that's not I was trying to say. I was meaning to say that people shouldn't be hated or discriminated against for being different. Watching the show gave me a Greater understanding of what it was like for them. I wasn't saying that watching the show made me see them as people.
@@startedfromscratch1529 oh ok, sorry for being so pressed about it😬
There really was nobody with Madonna’s level of mainstream current fame.
Nobody whose career was at their peak was talking about queer culture, about AIDS, raising awareness the way Madonna was.
