We went to this port on our last cruise and got a guided tour and absolutely LOVED it! It included the places you showed and also the Amber Factory. It was really cool to go there but you are absolutely correct on the sales pitch at the end. If you're not interested in spending a LOT of money on their expensive (but gorgeous) jewelry, I'd recommend skipping the shop portion after seeing the amber factory.
Hello from Montreal - hope you visit here one day... Great video! It felt so immersive, like I was transported there! I always thought Allie was of Indian/Asian descent so this was a cute surprise. Thank you for all the content, love your channel and very much look forward to all your videos!
So used to seeing you on trains, I had no idea you also had this kind of content! I will be visiting Puerto Plata in January and can't wait to explore❤
I’ve been to the DR many times and never went to the pink street!!! We are there next week. If I can talk my hubby into leaving Taino Bay we will take a pic! Thanks for another great video!!
Excellent content! As you are very familiar with the food, is there any restaurant there that you would recommend? What about a specific food or dish? Going there soon, appreciate your videos!
Thank you guys for all of your awesome cruise content! We have an upcoming cruise that has a stop in Puerto Plata & I’m so excited to check it out!! I would also LOVE to know where I can find those really cute sandals you have on around 6:09 😢
THE most important thing that made me LOVE the rest of your blogs, was/is the you mentioning that your parents were from Dominican Republic. THIS meant (for me) that you "would be real". HOWEVER you taking about the "man made pristine etcetc sterile" port, for 4+min.... I had to "speed pass it". Shame that the locals are most likely not even allowed to go into this "tourist section"....SAD. Anyways, I LOVED, you "being a local" to show me around. Do note that when you mentioned the "malecon" (you have no idea, what a "malecon" is).... but that's ok, it gave me a grin. GRACIAS! (BTW.... do you know what the word TAINO means? ... MOST important! Forgot to mention.... you say from port to town is "a short distance away"... you should have said "it's X (4?) blocks away, in flat cemented walkways" (short distance can be a mile away!)
Places seemed very close in town from the port. Many tours offer these same destinations, but it seems you could do them on your own. Would this be correct, or do you need and excursion? Thank you for the video and sharing with us all.
Thanks very much for this video! Really nice photo quality and editing, and you're a clear, warm, likeable narrator/guide. (First time I've seen this channel.) A question: I'll have a day in Puerto Plata in November (NCL cruise). I generally prefer to skip the cruise line's "guided tour" of any port, island, whatever. I prefer to strike out on my own, get past the rows of t-shirt and jewelry shops, and explore the more "real" parts of the culture: interact with some locals, see how they live. This video makes me confident that I can walk from the port to the city. Will I find any "authentic" DR there? If not, could I keep going maybe a few blocks and find some neighborhoods (locals' stores, restaurants, bars, etc.)? Thanks!
Is it possible to find a quiet relaxing hotel location in Puerto Plata on a first visit away from the resorts, tourist ghettos, and cruise ship crowds, but near amenities and conveniences, suitable for us retired folks over 60?! Especially without a car?
We were there a couple weeks ago. It is walkable but get ready to be bombarded by “guides” when you leave Taino Bay. I suggest downloading a map before you go. We hopped on a carriage ride $25 for 4 people total. The man took us to all the main stops and waited for us every time. About an hour and a half ride. It also helps if you speak Spanish which I don’t.
I did not feel safe Mike. So much harassment from taxi drivers!!! Several people from the ship accumulated and we walked into the town. It’s a interesting place, but I would recommend an excursion here.

So beautiful!! Love all the little shops and restaurants. Umbrella St looked fun!!
The port area reminds me of Costa Maya port area. Looking forward to exploring this port in the future. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
I thought the same thing alot like Costa Maya

Going to Puerto Plata for the first time next month! Was that lazy river area part of a resort or open to anybody?
It was open to everyone on the cruise
How long would you say the full walk was to go downtown, umbrella street, pink street, central square? Also, is the amber museum worth it?
Do you recommend walking from carnivals amber cove port ? Or taking a taxi?
Nice overview thx for sharing

Been there multiple times Yes it is safe people !Go and have fun .
2.5 hours
Went overthere like 10 months ago it was nice viva la republica Dominicana
We loved it!
Is umbrella street and pink street walkable from MSC cruise ship port. Be there in Sept 2024.

Love Puerto Plata!!! 🇵🇷
Ah we loved it too!
question.. we are arriving by cruise ship on Tuesday to amber cove. is downtown walkable from the amber cove cruise ship?
Are there clean restrooms around the area of umbrella and pink street?
Yeah because the restrooms here in America are filthy.
Was there like armed military at the port pier at all?
Can you walk to downtown or would you taxi
I 💋 Puerto Plata 🇹🇹🙏
How safe is it there?
