i wonder whether Ricky actually reads these comments? im hoping he does, in which case im gonna tell him he really makes me laugh, and im really enjoying these podcasts, and im gonna ask that you please please please have Steve and Karl on as guests at least once for old times sake, it would make my year, i really miss hearing you 3 together, just listening to you all chatting brings joy to me even at my lowest moments
I had suspected for some time that Ricky, in short interviews on American talk shows and longer interviews elsewhere, had started to omit Steve from his career résumé. I gave him the benefit of the doubt for two reasons: 1) I like Ricky and have done for years. I didn't want the suspicion to be proven correct and 2) how could someone reasonably go from "collaboration with Steve Merchant on The Office and Extras, among other things" to "ME ME ME ME" and think nobody will notice? My suspicions were confirmed when Ricky appeared at The Oxford Union a few months ago. He started in on the whole "I made this" and "I did that", consistent with his new stance, wanking on about being an auteur. Then someone asked him a compound question, explicitly asking about re-uniting with Steve and Ricky ignored that part of the question. Now he's on Sirius XM, again going over his career beginnings and surprise surprise, no Steve again. It's really fucking selfish and wrong. His omitting Steve from XFM is fine, up to a point, because he did famously hired Steve because his CV was top of the pile. But after they were booted and made that aborted talk/chat show with Jimmy Carr, it was _Steve_ who went to the BBC for a production course and ended up working on the World Service. If not for Steve, there would have been no Seedy Boss and there would have been no Office. So Ricky can engage in as much career revisionism as he likes, the record shows him as a liar. And those who wish to correct the record will do so. I think it's a cuntish thing he's done.
I think you're missing the point of this show... That has nothing to do with what this is about. That's like saying "I don't like Brad Pitt because he doesn't talk about Gwenyth Paltrow anymore and they dated, so that's really cuntish behaviour of him"
Despite meeting and getting to know David Bowie _and being told explicitly_ that he was pronouncing the great man's surname incorrectly, Ricky still pronounced it like a noise you make when you get hurt, rather than the noise you make when surprised.
Morrissey - Spent the Day in Bed Lyrics Spent the day in bed, Very happy I did, Yes I spent the day in bed, As the workers stay enslaved, I spent the day in bed, I’m not my type but, I love my bed. Eric Sweeney i guess when he remembers those days he misremembers certain details, so in his mind its his anecdote but really its someone elses. I havent taken psychology since 2015 but I believe the term is crypto amnesia
I like you Ricky and I also like Robin, but could you let your other guest talk a bit more? The Richard Dawkins Episode was already kind of painful to listen to as he hardly got a word out of his mouth over you two chatting away endlessly. It's nice that you are obviously good friends and very vocal with each other, but there seems to be hardly any point in having another guest on if it's just you two talking, no offence to any of you, but it seems pointless.
All episodes so far have been fabulous. Yes, the XFM podcasts etc were also great. But if listening to these makes you yearn for the old days, you may be expressing grief for your own lost youth rather than saying something substantive about the quality of this FREE product.
Anyoldactress40 and i agree, this is new material which i had no idea about until a week ago and I'm grateful. I never got to listen during the xfm days for obvious reasons so I would like to experience that live instead of the old recordings (which are brilliant) i think the issue is that xfm set the bar too high to a lot of people. I'm enjoying these so far though, its a nice change
Episode 5 and people are still commenting that Karl should come back etc etc. If you want Karl, stick on one of the old episodes and just enjoy these shows for what they are. If Ricky just did the same old schtick over and over, some people would still complain. He can’t win!
1:38:48 Sean you basically just told your girlfriend that this isn't going anywhere. The chances of her not picking up on that are about zero. Good luck
A lot of what Ricky Gervais is saying in these podcasts seems very contradictory, almost as though he's not thinking properly about what he's saying but just saying whatever comes into his consciousness at that particular moment so he has an opinion, so he brings some value to the table. I like his work, a huge fan it's just a recent observation. He's like a child looking for recognition, which we all are to some degree...
I have been obsessive with Gervais and his work for a long time now but this series of podcasts is really eye opening to how dislikeable he can be. Guests don’t get a word in, he flip flops his opinion and persona to suit the guest on the show. Merchant is missed! Maybe it’s his work I’ve loved all along!
I can honestly say I have never been offended... I think my brain doesn't quite register offence. I've never found myself saying 'I can't believe he's just said that' or 'fucking hell, that really offends me'. Someone do their best to explain offence.
I love Ricky Gervais - he's one of the naturally funniest people in the world, BUT..... ...Why does he constantly feel the need to convince everyone that he is right and wonderful? He is constantly using himself and his comedy as a shining example of how to do things completely correctly. Those who question him are wrong, without fail. I wonder where this insecurity comes from..? He obviously doesn't feel he's earnt the right to be a 'standup'. I wish he'd relax, regain his humility, and just be himself. Either that or just stop trying to talk about serious things. He's so gloriously, life-affirmingly funny when he lets himself be childish and 'wrong'.
I like Ricky but whenever he talks about what stand up comedy "should be" it's so fucking pretentious, as long as you're making people laugh then it can be anything. Also, this is a man who when he got into stand up, already had a built in audience of millions, who would laugh their dicks off if he just went up on stage and pulled stupid faces for an hour.
Anyone know who Ricky is talking about when he says it took a comedian 5 years to recover from a poor sitcom? Says something about a stand up not being able to give tockets away after a poor sitcom
Jake Wallwork I reckon it’s Louis CK. He was getting bigger and bigger before ‘Lucky Louie’ (he was well respected for years before then of course, but not mega successful), but then that flopped and was cancelled. He still retained his loyal fan base after that show, but it was a few years before he started once again to get more mainstream traction, TV airtime etc. I’m pretty sure he means CK, in which case it’s a little exaggerated to say it took five years for him to ‘recover’, but it certainly slowed down his evolution from a well respected ‘comic’s comic’ with a cult following, into one of the most successful and adored American comedians of a generation - recent events put aside, of course 👀
richard bloor Well I was a little bit aswell lol but yeah think its only been promoted in serius xm and what Rickys tweeted out himself but you would golf expected bigger number especially with people like Richy Dawkins
And Gervias likes to stick to his choice intellectual disputes and repeat himself over and over. Even when it sounds like an off the cuff comment you hear him repeat it again and again in later media.
I think I may have swapped from a huge Ricky Gervais fan to a hater. This entire podcast annoyed me, Ricky insulted iconic British panel shows like QI and Never Mind The Buzzcocks, he preaches philosophy over comedy and how it should be, and yet he has never experienced the grind of performing comedy for a living. I really wish Ricky would get some new anecdotes or talk with some American comedians before he spouts about how you have a responsibility to be thoughtful on stage.
People need to stop commenting “please get Steve and Karl on” both of them are barely on talking terms with Ricky these days so that won’t be happening. Steve due to Ricky’s general attitude these days and the whole “I created the office and here’s my movie version” thing. Karl because He feels they’ve drifted apart and the on the rare occasions they have met he can’t tolerate Ricky like he used to be able to. People might call bullshit on this but none of the 3 boys will.
Martin Fryer Even without the speculation of none of them talking to eachother anymore, I don't understand why anyone wants them to just redo that old show again and again. Nobody complains because Robert De Niro isn't just starting in raging bull over and over. Things change, people move on... unless you're commenting on youtube.
Schnoodles By the end of their relationship I think a lot of people were getting sick of Ricky constantly trying to get Karl to talk about hairy Chinese kids, schoolmates with webbed fingers and the neighbour with a horse in the house, etc. Those iconic anecdotes/discussions were funny at the time, but Karl was always at his best when he was just rambling on about a new topic, and something mental and unexpected would pop out. Going over the same. fucking. stories. every. time. was not enoyable, and it didn't play to Karl's strengths. It was like Ricky was pushing him to play his greatest hits over and over again, even though it was clear Karl didn't enjoy it, and he knew it was boring people too.
The Milk Cult of Sisyphus The podcast and the radio shows got tired, they'd run out of stuff to say and a lot of it was just covering old topics of discussion towards the end. I'm glad there's no Steve or Karl on this show as it'd quickly end up as retelling old anecdotes and stories. I'm sure the same people that complain about no Karl would instead complain that it's the same shit they've heard enough already.
BATTOUSAIPLAYS Gambling Channel He probably hates that Karl is on tv more than himself, he never speaks of him. If it wasn't for Karl he wouldn't be as big as he is
I'd feel a certain satisfaction if he even mentioned Steve Merchant's name once in a while (once in 5 years), let alone invited him on. It's like he never existed. (I always feel it necessary to add the addendum: I love both their work!) As a Beatlemaniac, I find it hard to avoid making a Lennon and McCartney analogy. I loved both their solo careers too.
FFS, no one likes Robin Ince... he's one of those "comedians" that thinks if he shouts it makes it funnier... the funniest thing he's ever done was the extras on Politics where Ricky just torments him for hours on end! When will he stop riding on other peoples coat tails. First Rickys then Cox's.
YAY, RICKY AND ROBIN AGAIN. KEEP IT COMING RICK. THANK YOU FOR CONTINUING TO PUT IT UA-cam FOR FREE FOR US POOR PEOPLE. LOVE YA
i wonder whether Ricky actually reads these comments? im hoping he does, in which case im gonna tell him he really makes me laugh, and im really enjoying these podcasts, and im gonna ask that you please please please have Steve and Karl on as guests at least once for old times sake, it would make my year, i really miss hearing you 3 together, just listening to you all chatting brings joy to me even at my lowest moments
I love your podcasts Ricky it really got me through some hard times
James Herbert do you enjoy the xfm shows?
WollongongWacko yeah listen to them everyday
likewise
Same
Get Richard Anderson on the show
Banana Backwoods The Dickster
Dickers!
Didla! Ya littla didla!
Did you make 3 tv shows, a 5 year long radio show and record breaking podcasts with them?
The big dick!
Yay! So happy to wake up to a new episode. Love these so much. I like the repeat guests, it’s a good format.
I'm enjoying listening to Robin Ince more than I thought I would
OOOOOOH ROBIN INCE!!!!
Keep up the great work ricky your awesome
can we get to 10 comments without someone mentioning Karl Pilkington ... shit, I've just mentioned him!
Hahahahahaha!!!

The giraffe in the room
I think you're missing the point of this show... That has nothing to do with what this is about. That's like saying "I don't like Brad Pitt because he doesn't talk about Gwenyth Paltrow anymore and they dated, so that's really cuntish behaviour of him"

I think... in the future, we'll blend........... all our food.
Jolene is such an amazing song! Love it so much.
Right at the point I felt relieved that there's finally some record playing included in the video, it cut straight back to the chat again... lol
OOOHHHHHHH ROBIN
I was at the Copenhagen show, It was indeed amazing! Can't wait to see you again for the Supernature tour!
He played suffer little children. God I needed that. Love Ricky when he talks passionately about mustic.
Great stuff but why isn’t the podcast feed up to date? Only one episode there.
One hour 43 minutes and 47 seconds yet somehow it seemed longer. Glad I was at work when I listened.
Good work Rick!
TELL PAPA TRUTH
Who is the person Ricky is talking about here? 1:11:16
Amazingly funny!
Despite meeting and getting to know David Bowie _and being told explicitly_ that he was pronouncing the great man's surname incorrectly, Ricky still pronounced it like a noise you make when you get hurt, rather than the noise you make when surprised.

Morrissey - Spent the Day in Bed Lyrics
Spent the day in bed,
Very happy I did,
Yes I spent the day in bed,
As the workers stay enslaved,
I spent the day in bed,
I’m not my type but,
I love my bed.
And I recommend that you,
Stop watching the news,
Because the news contrives to frighten you,
To make you feel small and alone,
To make you feel your mind isn’t your own.
I spent the day in bed,
It’s a consolation when all my dreams,
Are perfectly legal,
In sheets for which I paid,
I am now laid,
And I recommend,
To all of my friends that they,
Stop watching the news,
Because the news contrives to frighten you,
To make you feel small and alone,
To make you feel your mind isn’t your own.
Time, do as I wish (repeats)
I spent the day in bed,
You can please yourself but,
I spent the day in bed,
Pillows like pillars,
Life ends in death,
So there’s nothing wrong with being good to yourself,
Be good to yourself for once,
No bus, no boss, no rain, no train (repeats)
No emasculation.
No castration.
No highway.
Freeway.
Motorway.
No bus, no boss, no rain, no train (repeats)
Seriously, though, check out Sean's clips though. Coolest discovery recently!
who???
The Humpdy Dumpdy joke was Merchant's on xfm 100%
Eric Sweeney i guess when he remembers those days he misremembers certain details, so in his mind its his anecdote but really its someone elses. I havent taken psychology since 2015 but I believe the term is crypto amnesia
Been listening to that death cab for cutie song for years.. a great song
I tuned in as I thought Ricky was talking to Sean O'loughlin the England and Wigan Rugby League Captin - that would have been great.
"If you're feeling a bit coldy still go and see it" -this hasn't aged well 😂
Gotta get Steve & Karl on this next!
Oh my god does robin ince ever take a breath? Couldn’t stand it any more after 20 mins!
Love the new podcasts! Nees to get Karl and Steve on at least once!
Gervais. I am enjoying the Sirius series.
I like you Ricky and I also like Robin, but could you let your other guest talk a bit more? '...if Gandhi was around & he had Twitter, he'd say something he'd get some flack for.'
I wonder if Ricky remembered the ham...
Welcome to the Robin Ince show, with guests Ricky Gervais and Sean McLoughlin.
Ricky says that the people that listen to this are a clever bunch yet all most of them can do is quote karl pilkington
Why has Ricky completely turned his back on Steve? Did he sleep with Jane or something?
All episodes so far have been fabulous. Yes, the XFM podcasts etc were also great. But if listening to these makes you yearn for the old days, you may be expressing grief for your own lost youth rather than saying something substantive about the quality of this FREE product.
Anyoldactress40 i'm only 18 and I agree, i feel like i wasted a lot of my youth
Anyoldactress40 and i agree, this is new material which i had no idea about until a week ago and I'm grateful. Ah, the alternative spelling of my surname. Such a rare treat. I think mine works better for a comedian though, as it's got "laugh" in it.
So has slaughter, Garth.
It's got 'foreigner' in it. Go back to Norway.
Ooh! Someone's been on Google
I really wish I could download these, but for some reason it doesn't let me.
Those extras of ince and gervais are so funny, esp rickys noises LOL 🤣👌
I couldn't find the bowie album he was talking about it.
oh its Robin and his little thumbs
Episode 5 and people are still commenting that Karl should come back etc etc. If you want Karl, stick on one of the old episodes and just enjoy these shows for what they are. If Ricky just did the same old schtick over and over, some people would still complain. He can’t win!
I’ve subscribed to this on my iPhone but only the pilot has downloaded. Why is that happening?
Craig17g I think the pilot might be on a different podcast to the rest of the series, mate
Craig17g u got a iphone I don't. If I ever hear anyone talking iphones I will let them know you have one...
What was the point in that comment, Peter? Really?
simon laing no offence towards urself or anyone else. Sorry... It was late at night...
Cheers Peter. Spot on - we all have our moments (:
Ricky is so up-himself nowadays
1:38:48 Sean you basically just told your girlfriend that this isn't going anywhere. The chances of her not picking up on that are about zero. Good luck
Does RIcky mention anything about Louis CK in any of these Deadly Sirius series?
oooooo Robin's back! Rooooooooooooobyn!!
do you know what i mean?
Karl and Dawkins to same podcast :)
Did Robin go on tour with Brian Cox he never mentioned it
Lol yeah
We have heard it ricky and this time nobody asked
A lot of what Ricky Gervais is saying in these podcasts seems very contradictory, almost as though he's not thinking properly about what he's saying but just saying whatever comes into his consciousness at that particular moment so he has an opinion, so he brings some value to the table.
I like his work, a huge fan it's just a recent observation. He's like a child looking for recognition, which we all are to some degree...
I disagree. I think he is confident about his morals which is what makes him comfortable doing dark jokes
Depends who he is sat with yeah you are right a little bit, me too
Jacksepticeye sounds less Irish when you can't see his mouth moving.
Love these but let people speak Ricky...
I felt that way about Jerry Seinfeld when I saw him in more casual interactions and especially when he was on this show.
I feel two guests is too many, Sean, as new comic was an interesting contrast to Rick. Robin’s incessant droning bored me to tears.
Ooooh Robin
Stop interrupting your guests!
I can honestly say I have never been offended... I think my brain doesn't quite register offence. I've never found myself saying 'I can't believe he's just said that' or 'fucking hell, that really offends me'. Someone do their best to explain offence.
Lofty Production
people getting offended is the only offensive thing, dont get offended, just go watch/listen to something else
I think it was Noel Gallagher who once said it's always the people with a son named Sebastian.
38:40 I wonder what Auntie Nora would have to say about that...
Robin Ince is always yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap
This show truly should be called “Ricky Gervais Talking About Comedy and Offense And How Stupid He Thinks People Are”
Ince almost swallows more of his sentences than you Ricky, give him some ice and cool him off.
Have robin and Shaun on again. Baddiel too. They've been top laughs.
Is this the Robin that Karl hates?
shopdave it certainly is
The one with the worms??
I like Ricky but whenever he talks about what stand up comedy "should be" it's so fucking pretentious, as long as you're making people laugh then it can be anything. Also, this is a man who when he got into stand up, already had a built in audience of millions, who would laugh their dicks off if he just went up on stage and pulled stupid faces for an hour.
Fatoshi Ando who is a good stand up then
Why does he only invite english people? Somebody like gervais has the power to get interesting people from all over the world.
Robin 'eeeerr' Ince
Anyone know who Ricky is talking about when he says it took a comedian 5 years to recover from a poor sitcom? Says something about a stand up not being able to give tockets away after a poor sitcom
Jake Wallwork - he’s talking about Lenny Henry. Doesn’t rate him as a comedian at all. He’s referring to his sitcom ‘Chef’
Martin Fryer are you sure it's Lenny Henry? He says 'great stand up' and Ricky thinks he's a terrible stand up
Jake Wallwork I reckon it’s Louis CK. He was getting bigger and bigger before ‘Lucky Louie’ (he was well respected for years before then of course, but not mega successful), but then that flopped and was cancelled. I had the feeling it was Louise too but wasn't 100%
Rule of thumb... 😂
Holy crap Ricky - let people finish their sentances
.
Less than 50k views on his previous shows, There's people who film themselves scratching off scratchcards get double that!
Gavin House how many views has your podcast got? Just wondering
richard bloor my point being people are morons
Gavin House O. Looked like you were having a pop. To be honest has it been promoted? I just stumbled across it.
richard bloor Well I was a little bit aswell lol but yeah think its only been promoted in serius xm and what Rickys tweeted out himself but you would golf expected bigger number especially with people like Richy Dawkins
Gavin House what are the ratings for this show like on Sirius XM? UA-cam views are meaningless.
hey ricky can you add subtitle?
Emre Öztürk use the captions
iTUNES PODCAST please!!!
You should have talked about if Louise CK could still res-erect his career again? (too early). On a serious note. Don't think he can.
Ince talks a lot, which is a rubbish criticism for a podcast. But for him it's spot on.
I quite like him, but he's the perpetual sixth form intellectual. The way he talks about art and music is the definition of pretension.
And Gervias likes to stick to his choice intellectual disputes and repeat himself over and over. Even when it sounds like an off the cuff comment you hear him repeat it again and again in later media.
Robin Ince has small thumbs

Bring back Karl for this!!!!! I know he's keeping that gift until the last episode!

WollongongWacko hahaha
BATTOUSAIPLAYS Gambling Channel He probably hates that Karl is on tv more than himself, he never speaks of him. If it wasn't for Karl he wouldn't be as big as he is
