    If items shows out of stock contact the seller, give them the part number (in video) and tell them how many you want. However, it's highly suggested they are replaced in pairs

    More than the actual job, I am extremely impressed that you had the whole family involved - especially your son!. He stayed with you and helped throughout the entire job AND he appeared to be genuinely interested and engaged. Cherish that. It goes by way too fast.

    MYTH BUSTED! Great experience. I've done other cv axles but the price tag made me question whether i had the know how. I figured for that price there had to be something different than the usual axle replacement! NOPE! Ya'll got this guys! keep on keeping on.

    Whenever possible I put the bolts back into the holes they came out of that way I dont have to label and I cant lose them. Also, You dont need to remove the lower ball joint on the spindle. Just the upper, like you did, and the sway bar link. The spindle will swing out of the way more than enough.And you are right, a crow bar, or just a large screw driver can be used to EASILY pop out the axle.When doing this, that "POP" is the most beautiful sound you can hear at that particular time.I think MB says to have the C clip on the end either facing up or down to pop it in easily.

    Next time if you break both axle nuts before you jack the car up it's way easier. Then bring the front wheels off the ground. Rest on jack stands and take off both wheels. Use the free jack to jack up\down the hub assembly to align everything. Thus making removal and replacement much faster as well painful and fatigued. You can free your ball joints by using the socket on the nut while still threaded. I like to thread my axel a few threads as soon as I get it into the hub. This helps realignment of ball joints easier\faster. With the jack still there work it to align the link bar into the assembly. Another tip is use a C-clamp and the back of a brake pad to reset the caliper pistons. Make sure to check for leaks while doing this. FYI that last plug leading to the brake pads is the wear sensor and don't break it 😞. Hope this helps with the next adventure 🙂.

    Hey brother you inspired me so I tried it myself. I have a 2014 CLS 550 and just change the entire drive train excluding the trannie. The center U joint was busted but the car had 100K miles, so while I was under there I said, what the hell. The total parts cost was $1,100.00. The dealer wanted $4,300.00. Grant it, it took 8.5 hrs but I'm over $3,000.00 happier. Make more clips, thanks!!

    I have a 2012 s550 4matic.
    Busted front CV boot at wheel hub and according to the mechanic, a bad wheel bearing. Good to see some of these comments about aftermarket axles not fitting... I want to purchase the parts vs. having the mechanic upcharge me on parts so I'll definitely look into repair OEM axle.
    Just A note... I've found if you take the time to compress the brake caliper before removing with flat head screw driver carefully using the rotor for leverage, it makes reinstalling caliber assembly much easier.

    You have to be VERY careful with the S class axles. Most aftermarket axles DO NOT fit. The only problem I found is the inner ring that locks the axle. I tried 3 different brands that said fit. They did not. No way to push it in. I found a GREAT axle shop near me that repairs axles for next to nothing WHILE I waited!!!!!
    So I was able to put the original axle in and it went in SOOOO easily. VERY simple job. Biggest thing is the axle bolt that needs to be replaced and torqued super hard.
    Now I can do a front axle in less than 2 hours possibly just over an hour.
    Removing the axle, just use a long heavy screw driver to pry it out. Look under there is room to fit the screw driver in and it pops out.
    Oh, I found if you just disconnect the upper control arm and the sway bar link you can pull the spindle away enough to get the axle out. You save at least an hour.

    You have to be VERY careful with these aftermarket axles. I found Most dont actually fit even if they say they do. I needed a new front axle, got an aftermarket and it would not "connect" into the transmission. I tried 3 different ones and NONE fit. The ring would not snap and one actually started to destroy the new splines on the axle. I got lucky and found an AXLE guy near me who rebuilds them and he took my OEM Mercedes axle and repaired it for $50. I WILL NEVER get an aftermarket axle again. I would get a used OEM axle from Ebay and bring it to this guy to re boot it and repair anything it needs for less than $100.

    Every now and then I watch these DIY video tutorial made by DIY mechanics... I’m sorry bro but as a ASE certified mechanic I cringed watching you perform this part exchange... But you made good with what you had... No preload on any of those components before torquing bolts... Also certain jobs it’s necessary to have the correct tools, so as not to re-invent and duplicate what had you replace the component in the first place. But hey good luck, good job.

    • @KimboDogg07
      @KimboDogg07 2 роки тому +2

      @@MrKingNica pretty much yes but not the screw more for say a bushing like on a lower control arm. Lift the arm to simulate a load on the bushing where the vehicle is put to ride height. Then tighten and torque the bolt. So now when the vehicle is dropped with a load on the component and at ride height the bushing doesn’t crack or bust because the tension is to much because it was not pre-loaded.
