Just goes to show that most cases of bullying aren't as simple as the bully being a jerk, there's usually some sort of personal problem the leads to a build up of pent up aggression that gets taken out on anyone or anything they can (especially prior to and during puberty where the ability to control ones emotions is at its lowest.)
I think most people are a bully in school without us even knowing, but to me, that’s part of growing up, and we all need to learn, and are still learning.
I think you’re being a bit too sympathetic considering a) a lot of people bully others on purpose and b) Bullying no matter how bad it is doesn’t solve any problems and only makes more. It’s also kinda calloused cause the person being bullied doesn’t deserve it. Not to mention the severity of it can range and have different effects on the person mentally or physically. And that because bullying is not handled well in schools, it can be much worse or just never stop. I’m speaking as an education major who works with kids constantly. Bullying shouldn’t be normal. Though if you were a bully in school saying this then that’s hella messed up and you should feel bad. Whether you knee it was bullying or not. You shouldn’t lose sleep over it but to be more apathetic to bullying is not the move.
You can make mistakes. You can even unintentionally end up occasionally hurting people, that’s stuff we all end up doing as humans. but that doesn’t equate to the same thing as bullying. I mean if that’s what helps you sleep at night. But saying most people end up as bullies is just straight up not true.
I think it is important to differentiate between being a "bully" and the act of "bullying". A lot of people have done, at one time or another, an act of "bullying"(causing some kind of hurt to another person), either intentionally or unintentionally(teasing or pranking someone, but going a step too far in the heat of the moment). And a lot of people, when being confronted with the fact that it was indeed bullying, they stop. Because most people actually do not want to hurt other people. That is why it is important that if you have a friend that is being a bully, you tell them, firmly, that they have to stop. People can only ever observe a situation from their own perspective, and sometimes they do not realize they are being hurtful toward others. It is much more powerful when it comes from a friend, than a teacher. A bully is someone who will not/can not stop, even if they know they are hurting someone. It might even be the goal. They need a different kind of help and assistance to stop.
I love how the title was like “TYLER WAS A BULLY IN HIGH SCHOOL” and then it just talked about how Tyler was the one getting bullied 😢
The victims of bullying frequently become bullies themselves in some form
