Why does Quicy Jones wait til someone dies to talk bad about them Before u ladies throw stones at Elvis do your research, instead of the listening to Quicy Jones he never met Elvis. Al green,James Brown, refers him as Brother Elvis BB king, Little Richard, Muhammad Ali, and so many famous Black people loved Elvis. Quicy Jones said nasty stuff about Michael Jackson and other black Performers but most the time when they not around to defend themselves. Unfortunately Elvis has been gone for nearly 44 years why now.

So you love Quincy Jones for spreading a lie? That's horrible. Just go ask All the black people who actually knew and worked for Elvis. How about Mary Jenkins, the sweet black lady who Elvis hired as a cook. Elvis bought her a house as a gift. Ask the Sweet Inspirations who were the black back up singers Elvis hired to tour with him. Texas asked Elvis not to bring his black back up singers. Elvis responded " If they can't come then I'm not coming". Ask Muhummed Ali who Elvis had an expensive boxing robe made for and gifted to him. Ask James Brown who stayed in the room with Elvis's body at the viewing for hours and refused to leave and said Elvis was his brother. Ask the stranger black lady who told Elvis she liked his car and so Elvis bought her one to have too. I could go on and on. These are NOT the behaviors of a racist.

If Jackie Wilson was alive he would have told you who Elvis was. When Jackie fell off that stage and could not perform anymore and was in a hospital until he died, Quincy didn't pay his bills,Elvis did. And the picture Jackie had on his night stand until he died was of Elvis and himself. James Brown had to be helped away from in front of Elvis"s casket because of his grief. “With Elvis, there was not a single drop of racism in that man. And when I say that, believe me I should know.” - B.B. King (2010)
There are many other comments like this from those who actually knew Elvis, such as James Brown, Sammy Davis Jnr, Muhammad Ali, Jackie Wilson, The Sweet Inspirations (his backup singers, which included Cissy Houston .. Whitney’s Mum)
Furthermore, he grew up in poverty, lived amongst black neighbourhoods and went to the black churches. So of course he would be influenced by gospel and blues, that’s all he knew. None of the black artists back then said “he stole black music” ... but actually praised him for opening the doors.
    Here are some quotes:
“Describe Elvis Presley? He was the greatest who ever was, is or ever will be.” - Chuck Berry
“A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man’s music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis.” - Jackie Wilson
“Elvis was God-given, there's no other explanation. A Messiah comes around every few thousand years, and Elvis was it this time.” - Little Richard

The "racist" rumor was started by a white owned music magazine written for the Black community that had an agenda. The goal: To tear Elvis' reputation to shreds before he got any more popular and spread black music around the country, through the suburbs and countryside, aka white America. JET magazine did an investigation and found the rumor to be a complete fabrication. Those words went against Elvis entire being. Elvis was like Eminem but on a much deeper grass roots platform. Elvis opened up doors that noone else could have opened, nor wanted to open at that time. He shook the world.

Vivicia should ask 50 Cent what he thinks of Elvis. Was Elvis REALLY poor & from the hood: YES. Example: He didn't own his own pair of shoes until he was 9. THAT'S POOR. Great Depression. He always gave credit to those who came before him and ALWAYS paid the original song writers. Elvis was born (literally) in a two lightbulb shack in Tupelo, Miss. The small house only had one big room divided into living and sleeping quarters. He then moved to a government housing project in Memphis. His father was out of work, was arrested for forging a check, and they were dead broke. Yeah, Elvis knew about growing up dirt poor. He was a boy that grew up in black and white churches in the South. So, when he sang about "In the Ghetto" he knew what that was all about. These four women should educate themselves before they spread lies about a man they never knew. Quincy should be ashamed.

They may not have met face to face, but they did collaborate extensively in the late 1950's and 60's. Steal or borrowed, Elvis was highly influenced and even copied vocals and dancing styles from many black singers, such as Roy Hamilton, especially from Otis Blackwell. It has been said that the demos of several songs he wrote and sang such as "Don't be Cruel", "All Shook Up" which was sent to Elvis to perform, sounded the same as his demos. He clearly helped to increase Elvis' popularity.

He didn't steal anything, that's ridiculous, Elvis loved his singer's and treated them with respect no matter what the color of their skin was, it's just not right to speak of the people who have passed away and paid their due's just like we all will some sweet day we will see Jesus. Elvis was a Christian man and wouldn't tolerate racism. When he went to Houston he was told don't bring your black singer's, Elvis refused to listen. He made sure everyone got a royal treatment, he paraded in with the black backup singer's. I don't know what is wrong with Quincy, maybe he was jealous and just didn't appreciate a white artist in his circle of friend's. Elvis didn't go out with a lot of famous people, he stayed in with his family and friend's. I can't say enough to express how much I admire Elvis. • @depper

Elvis Presley WAS NOT A RACIST. Muhammad Ali, BB KIng, and James Brown and many others attested to that.
Elvis didn't steal anything from anyone. ELVIS CREATED HIS OWN STYLE and paid the black artists he worked with very very well. That "Elvis was a racist and stole black music" narrative was a false narrative that bears no truth and has zero evidence. ALL black artists that worked with him PRAISED HIM.
Elvis is the only musician inducted into the Gospel, R&B, Country and Rock Halls of Fame.
    FACTS:
    1. Elvis Presley has NEVER stolen a song. Not even in one instance. Elvis WORKED ** WITH BLACK SONGWRITERS **. In particular, Otis Blackwell, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, among a few others. Elvis paid for SONG RIGHTS, which went to each black artist.
    2. Elvis then sent ROYALTY CHECKS to the artist based on HIS sales.
    3. Because Elvis CREDITED EACH ARTIST, on EACH ALBUM, black artists' ALBUM SALES skyrocketed when Elvis recorded one of their songs.
So why not just BE HONEST, and acknowledge that Elvis opened up THREE REVENUE STREAMS for black artists when almost NO ONE ELSE WAS. That is just BEING HONEST.
What is the point of spreading a false myth that HE was stealing music when that was not the case?
There absolutely were white artists and executives that were stealing black music, but Elvis was NOT in that group. Elvis gave an injection to black music and musicians, that is why they willingly worked with Elvis, and CREDITED ELVIS for doing JUST THAT. Examples: Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Otis Blackwell, Fats Domino, Jackie Wilson. Mehelia Jackson. Cissy Houston. James Brown. Isaac Hayes. Al Green.
Elvis came FROM NOTHING. Born in a shack with no running water or electricity. Twin brother died at birth and was buried in a SHOEBOX. So poor his black friend Sam Bell called him the poorest of the poor.
Yet his ability to interpret and arrange a song by merging three distinct genres, R&B, Country and Gospel was revolutionary. Elvis was an ARRANGER as much as he was Lead vocalist and Dancer. He was a creator of stage presentation, of clothing attire, the look of a rock and roll star. He was a crossover youth symbol for many young white, black and Hispanic people in the 1950s, no matter their race or creed, and always went against the order of older elites of the day.
Elvis was a youth rebel, who dressed with Italian and Cuban collar shirts, wide-legged, pleated trousers, blousons , long raised Pompadour hairstyle, sharp colors, denim and leather jackets, and always looked youthful and fresh. Always dressed on point. All eyes were on Elvis. And the older people hated the look and would threaten to arrest him and even kill him for his singing and dancing. Death threats became the norm to the day he died. Elvis was a strong supporter of civil rights, hiring black musicians and staff members when almost noone was at the time, even during the race riots of the 1960s.

Many people don’t realize that it was Elvis Presley that took rock ‘n’ roll to Hollywood. Hollywood made rock ‘n’ roll famous around the world.
So if someone tries to tell you that Elvis Presley did not invent rock ‘n’ roll -- just let them know that Elvis represents the gospel roots and the country roots of rock ‘n’ roll, and it was he and no one else that expanded the reach of this music genre. Elvis went to diversity school and he even dated and slept with black girls in school and he tried to date his black background singer but she didn't want to because it would've gotten negativity. Cissy Houston even said Elvis wasn't a racist when she singed with him. Elvis stood up for black people when white people called him a "n*gger lover" Elvis said he didn't care what people had to say about him he supported black artist and their music constantly and gave them credit he opened the doors for black artist the man even bought his black maid a house and cars and he even help pay for Martin Luther King funeral. When Elvis was supposed to perform they told him his back ground singers the sweet inspiration couldn't come in but Elvis stood uo for them and said if they can't come in then he can't either. Elvis grew up on music that's mostly associated with black people so thats how Elvis singed! Elvis was original and Elvis isn't the King of Rock and Roll he is THE KING OF MUSIC PERIOD!

Furthermore, he grew up in poverty, lived amongst black neighborhoods and went to the black churches. So of course he would be influenced by gospel and blues, that’s all he knew.

Why pick on Elvis when #1 Its WELL KNOWN that Elvis was NOT racist. #2 He helped the black community by hiring black musicians and staff AND FIGHTING FOR THEM. #3 Elvis Generosity to and support for the Civil Rights movement is WELL DOCUMENTED.

The biggest problem about this new idea of "cultural appropriation" is that it STOPS at the BLUES in the 1930s and 40s. If you take IT BACK to the beginning of music, the whole racist cultural appropriation idea vanishes. Black Gospel and Blues greats studied European gospel and Jazz. THAT is where the southern black blues was originated. EUROPE. But how many Europeans do you hear crying that the BLUES GREATS were heavily influenced by Gospel and Jazz from EUROPE? ITS ART FOLKS. Its very purpose is TO INSPIRE and TO RECREATE.

Elvis was called the King on stage by a fan and he was recorded as stating that there "IS ONLY ONE KING, Jesus Christ." Elvis was HUMBLE. He was PART OF the engineering of Rock and Roll which CAME FROM the Blues and Gospel. THAT is what causes the confusion , so anyone with an agenda can use the evolution of the Blues and Rock music as "stealing" when it was just music and musicians and creative people taking music in a new direction. Elvis never created Rock and Roll or black music, but he was instrumental in getting black music, the Blues, Gospel music, Jazz and Rockabilly music heard on a grand stage during a period of segregation and racism. Elvis was synergy, he was fusion, he was totally non-racist. In fact he was the opposite of racist. He provided a platform for this music and wanted ALL of America to get a taste of it like he did. He created a whole new style of dance and clothing and hair and the way he performed on a stage was even more unique. When someone tells me Elvis STOLE black music... I reply back NO, he came up WITH IT and was responsible for fusing it with other genres and that brought a LOT of new faces and wallets to black music that no other artist had ever done. The reason black figures liked or loved Elvis was because as BB King said Elvis TRULY MEANT IT. He took the music SERIOUS and shared it with the whole world.

The story was garbled in delivery. Jones said that Tommy Dorsey said he didn't want to work with Elvis implying some sort of prejudice. Presley never said he didn't want to work with Jones. They didn't have a relationship. In Tommy Dorsey's bio he had only good things to say about Elvis. Jones also said he saw Otis Blackwell coaching Presley. Blackwell said on Letterman he'd never met Elvis. BB King said they didn't make a mistake when they called Elvis the King. Quincy Jones has made some unflattering comments about other performers, including the Beatles and even his former collaborator Michael Jackson. I was stunned and outraged to read that there is some talk about removing Elvis’ statues - what the…?! Elvis Presley did not have a shred of prejudice in his whole body; his only bias was against people who hurt other people. Growing up in the deep South, Elvis saw firsthand and understood how awful and even deadly racism was. Elvis was proud to announce the authentic influences at the core of the heart and soul of music. I was there; he and I spoke of this many times in private over the years, and he spoke of it to his audiences, as many of you know.
I posted this story before - but now it is more pertinent and timelier than ever.
    * * * * * * * *
It was sometime during our hiatus in June of 1965, at Graceland - Elvis’ refuge and sanctuary. He thrived on the long, lazy humid Memphis days. Soon we’d be off to Hawaii to make “Paradise Hawaiian Style.”
Most afternoons the two of us would retreat upstairs where I would take care of Elvis’ hair. The ideal setting to relax and talk before our midnight run to the Memphian Theater with everyone to watch movies til the wee hours of the morning. Our days were filled with laughter, excitement, and exuberance. Life was radically amazing - could anything be any better than this?
One afternoon Elvis decided to stop by the office in the back of Graceland to visit for a few minutes. When we left he grabbed a stack of the fan mail that poured in every day from around the world before we retreated upstairs to his dressing room.
As I was brushing Elvis’ hair he began reading a few letters. He came to one letter and shook his head, “No, this girl has it all wrong. I’ve heard all this before, but I wasn’t the one who invented Rock ‘n Roll. No way, no way!”
“Larry,” Elvis began passionately, “let me tell you the truth that most people have no idea about, how the whole thing really happened.”
Elvis was silent for a moment, as his mind wandered back over the years. He stared into the distance and began to point with his index finger, indicating the stretch of time.
“It all began not too far from where we are right now, in the heart of the deep ol’ South. Man, back in those days the poor ol’ colored slaves were forced to work their asses off. I mean they had to, or they’d be whipped, tortured or raped, even killed by the sons of bitches in charge. Those slaves really knew what pain and suffering were, more than most people can ever imagine. From the time the sun came up til it went down, they worked in the fields picking cotton, or whatever else they had to do. It broke their damn backs and bodies, bending down and working all day long in the hot blistering sun. But it didn’t break their spirit. I mean they would drive those slaves half to death whipping them until their bodies were streaked with blood. I know…I’ve been told some horrible things about what happened back then that you wouldn’t believe."
I was soaking up every word Elvis spoke, his entire body reflecting the deep, overwhelming emotions he was experiencing. He looked down for a moment - then his eyes carefully looked into mine.
“And do you know how they survived, Larry, how they got through it? They sang. It was their music and their faith, that’s how. Slavin’ their lives away they did what came natural to them; they sang. They sang their hearts out, from deep down in their guts, their souls. All day long slavin’ in the fields they would all sing, crying out to God together, makin’ up the words as they went along. And some of those songs from back then are still with us today.
What blows me away is that during all that, they never lost their faith in God. Their faith was something else, and that’s what got them through it all. Man, a lesson for all of us, that’s for sure. What a message! They brought their music right into their churches, and then white people started copying what they did. As time went by their music spread outside the churches to become honky-tonk and ragtime in places like New Orleans, and Beale Street right here in Memphis. Later it became the birth of the blues in St. Louis, Chicago and New York; then it eventually evolved down to our times in the form of rhythm and blues.”
I pretended not to notice as Elvis brushed his hand across his eyes.
“Look, real truth is that I wasn’t the one who invented Rock ‘n Roll. I was just lucky enough to have been in the right place at the right time. All I did was to introduce their music to a white audience, an’ I owe them a hell of a lot. And right there is why I love this country so much. I mean, no matter who you are, or where you came from, or even if all the odds are all against you to making it, you can dream the impossible dream and get the chance to achieve it. That’s what America is all about. Believe me, I know; I’m so damn grateful - because I’m living that dream.”

Sad how the black people reacted about someone who open the door for everyone after him in music. He did not steal the music. He embraced it and brought out for the world to appreciate. You people need to sit back and think. Is this true if someone tells something about you and you know and your family know is not the truth. He was accused of bringing the devil's music into the white man's world. But he didn't care. He loved it given the way America was then, he was his own person and believed in himself. This is the problem with the world. It goes backwards with these sorts of nonsense instead of embracing what is good in everybody. Us non white people appreciate his music and don't listen to someone like Quincy who is a racist and preferred white women to black women. And did he ever meet Elvis or is he a senile old man who is resentful cause apart from black community who else in the world think of him as an Icon. They bring up Hound Dog?? Lieber and Stoller, two Jewish songwriters, were in love with R&B, black culture, and they wrote ‘Hound Dog’. All the black artists of the day loved Elvis, and in the 1950s, Presley’s music was popular in the black community. As noted by Michael Bertrand, author of Race, Rock and Elvis, between April 1956 and September 1958, Presley had 22 songs among the Top 15 on Billboard’s rhythm and blues charts - charts that were “meant to capture the tastes of black listeners and buyers.”
“A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man’s music,” said soul singer legend Jackie Wilson, “when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis.” Elvis' idol was Jackie Wilson. Elvis grew up in Black churches in Tupulo and Memphis in the poorest neighborhoods. Not a racist bone in Elvis' body.

@@Canuck24_7 Stealing? You are clearly NOT a musician or an artisan of the trade. Big Joe Turner, Bo Diddly, Wynonie Harris, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Sammy Davis Jr and Fats Domino came to national prominence after Presley's acceptance among mass audiences of White American adults. The economic power of Presley's fans became evident when they tuned in to alternative radio stations playing his records. And they bought not only Elvis records but Fats and Little Richard and Chuck Berry records enmasse. NO ONE ALIVE was able to sell more records than Elvis Presley and it was not close. Young black teenagers and 20 somethings were buying Presley records too
In an era when radio stations were shifting to an all-music format, in reaction to competition from television, profit-conscious radio station owners learned quickly when sponsors bought more advertising time on new all "rock and roll" stations, some of which reached enormous markets at night with clear channel signals from AM broadcasts. This new success boosted R&B and Jazz radio stations as well!
And the craziest thing? White stations didn't put Elvis on at first. IT WAS BLACK MUSIC STATIONS WITH BLACK DJs that introduced Elvis Presley to the world.

And now these foolish women want to spread lies that they know absolutely nothing about, about a dead man. And Quincy. I used to respect Quincy, but if Quincy really said that about Elvis, then I have lost all respect for him.
Why say something like this, when it's clearly not true. That make me loose all respect for Quincy, because to say something that he likely knows is not true, suggests to me that Quincy would have said this through jelousy. Because unless Quincy really beeived it then I cannot see any other reason why he would have ever said it. And there is no way on earth he could have ever beeived for one minute that Elvis Preskey was ever a racist.
The guywas deeply religious and learnt his music, firstly by going to black churches, as a child in black neighbourhoods. A child knows no hate. And so a child growing up around black people who gave that child love back could never grow up to become racist.
Unless that child grew up feeling rejected by those black people. But not when that child whole being, their whole life and carrer shine because of what they learnt through being around black people, then that person could never then be racist towards those people. Sorry, but anyone whoever beleives that it brainless.

Black song creators WERE credited by Elvis Presley and most Elvis fans. Elvis CREDITED ALL songwriters underneath each song title on EVERY album. AND Elvis paid for song rights AND paid royalties to them all based on his sales, no exceptions. So black songwriters such as Otis Blackwell, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Fats Domino were VERY HAPPY to work with Elvis. They made huge amounts of money on residuals from Elvis.
AND Elvis fans not only purchased Elvis' records, but many purchased the original records from black artists such as Chuck, Little Richard, Fats, and Otis and opened up a whole new revenue stream in the industry for them. Otis was even able to tour again solely because of new demand based on his work with Elvis.

These ladies are clueless. Here is how specifically Quincy lied in this case:
#1. Quincy stated that TOMMY DORSEY told him that HE REFUSED TO WORK WITH ELVIS because he's a racist. Guess what? Dorsey hired Elvis on SIX DIFFERENT OCCASIONS to perform on his show. Then Dorsey DIED in 1956. Elvis and Dorsey worked together up until the end of his life. So THAT ONE is BS.
#2. Quincy claims that he saw Otis teaching Elvis HOW TO SING in person many times. Quincy said "Every time I saw Elvis, he was being coached by Otis Blackwell, telling him how to sing."
FACT CHECK: OTIS BLACKWELL said on DAVID LETTERMAN in 1987 that HE NEVER MET ELVIS. ** NOT ONE TIME. ** Otis' family then verified that the only reason Otis never met Elvis was that he was very shy and was afraid to ruin the big royalty monies that he was getting from Presley sales. They also said ELVIS BOOSTED Otis' fledgling career and he was even able to tour again. SO THIS WAS A BIG LIE from Quincy that Otis' family disputed.
#3. Lastly, in response to Jones's weird reply, "I wouldn’t work with him," THERE IS NO EVIDENCE that Elvis ever asked Quincy Jones to work with him. So with Quincy's three major statements failing the smell test, it is clear that QUINCY WAS FULL OF CRAP.
This now marks yet another fabrication on Quincies part... he did the same thing to Michael Jackson, taking credit for the Thriller album saying MJ didnt do anything.
Over a dozen other celebrities fell victim to Quincy lies in the past 5 years. Quincy has lost his mind.

Because of that anonymous Sepia Magazine article that Jet and Ebony debunked he turned it down. Don't get that one. He could have used Elvis to headline other musicians that Parker blocked him from playing with. He could have asked Rufus Thomas, BB King, Sammy Davis Jnr, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Fats Domino, or even Chuck Berry about Elvis being racist. Jet Magazine cleared Elvis of that rumor in 1957 on Jailhouse Rock set. Tommy Dorsey (the one who told Quincy Jones that Elvis was a racist mfer) had Elvis on the Stage Show six times. From the original Hollywood Reporter-article this item is referring to:
"HR: Did you ever work with Elvis?
QJ: No. I wouldn’t work with him.
    HR: Why not?
QJ: I was writing for [orchestra leader] Tommy Dorsey, oh God, back then in the ’50s. And Elvis came in, and Tommy said, “I don’t want to play with him.” He was a racist mother - I’m going to shut up now. But every time I saw Elvis, he was being coached by [“Don’t Be Cruel” songwriter] Otis Blackwell, telling him how to sing.
HR: [Blackwell told David Letterman in 1987 that he and Presley had never met.]
Re >> The interviewer unfortunately didn't bring up what the magazine does imply: Quincy Jones may have some holes in his memory. Which is very sad for him personally, but forgivable, since he's already in his late 80s and looking back on a huge life and legacy with more highlights and stories than most people gather during their lifetimes. It is not unlikely that he may make a mistake here and there in recalling past events. What we can reassemble from known historical facts is the following:
Elvis Presley made his national television debut in january of 1956 during an episode of CBS' Stage Show, which was hosted by brothers Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey and their bigbands. It must have been during rehearsals for this appearance that Dorsey made the alleged statement. Quincy doesn't continue to say what happened next. So not only is his assessment of Presley's character based on hearsay; we also can't confirm whether Dorsey indeed refused to work with Elvis because of his prejuidice. The only thing we can be sure of is that Presley made five more consecutive appearances on the show (feb through march of '56). So if Tommy Dorsey didn't keep his word on not wanting to work with a racist rock & roll singer, then how believable is this story? Also: if Quincy wouldn't work with Elvis either, what did he do those five following appearances? He stopped writing for Dorsey temporarily?
It's unfortunate that the interviewer just lets this pass and doesn't probe further. But I guess he was just happy to have ignited the flame of the old 'Elvis was racist' discussion again, right in the middle of the BLM movement. So that these four ladies can keep repeating the same rumours and keep people divided. Gotta love (social) media.
