Because of Jacques Cousteau’s influence I learnt to scuba dive, I adored this man and his adventures. I only wish i had been born earlier so I could have dived with him. Merci Jacques, Je t’aime Calypso!
i started diving because of him and watching calypso and the crew and the captain was one of the first men to bring us saturation diving the industry owes him so much.
I scuba dived because of him! Much as I loved him, Scuba diving was not for me¬ I have hearing loss in both ears ...it was agony! I will treasure my experiences, but... it made me ill!
Built in Ballard, Washington during WWII. Part of a class of 136' minesweepers known as YMS at the time. Calypso was built for the British and never had a USN history. 481 ships of this class were built. Many were converted to other uses after the war. John Wayne's yacht was the same class. I've been on several converted to tuna boats.

Founding Year Member of the Costeau Society here with a framed picture of Calypso in its height of glory in the center of my wall. SCUBA became a skill thanks to Jacque.
It must not be restored because there seems to be no info about the ship past about 6 years ago. I can't find anything on the status, so that means it incomplete or they'd be showing her off to the world again.

I know the dream is to put Calypso back out to sea, but is that the best use for her? What about making her a floating educational museum honoring Cousteau's legacy and highlighting innovations in sea exploration?
1200 nautical miles until she had larger fuel and water tanks fitted. There is an excellent documentary on C alypso made by a Scotsman called Callum on UA-cam.
I'd rather make a donation to preserve the Pacific fisherman! They're starting to get scarce these days. With machines replacing deck hands, smaller and smaller Crews go to Sea every year. Take care of yourselves out there boys..!🎏

I would work on her for free ,my love of sea and ocean life is directly because of her and her crews
