Loving it.. Moving the rubber seal to the lid would remedy the rubber seal getting damaged while loading the box.. Dragging gear, coolers etc over a seal will destroy it no matter how high the quality is.
In integrated chase light like the small Dunarri Pierce would be nice.
Plastic unit potentially with a drain plug as well such as you would see in a retooled cooler. Just to make cleaning the inside out, spray it out and pull the plug to drain
You may have inadvertaintly solved my biggest issue with my x3. I drive in the mud and east coast sand and the stock clutch is really loud at 5200 rpms I bet your box will greatly decrease this ratchet noise from the stock clutch!!
Just some engineering notes. The top plate does not need to be fully welded. One inch stitch welding is more than enough. This will save on manufacturing time and potential heat warpage. As for the shocks; they only need to be strong enough to assist in lift from 50% or more from open. When the tire is sitting in the open position only a fraction of the weight is acting on the shock. I would try one shock and see how that feels. One other idea, if you change the shock angle to be lower on the rear mount it will assist in keeping the door closed after the latch is removed. Other than that it looks like good progress from the Sand Show.
If they dont completely weld it ,then will have water intrusion.
@@mandytuning I agree, I want to keep everything as sealed as possible. As for the shock, we are limited on the shock angle, but finding enough variance between the different psi options.

Not sure I like the extra weight on the radius rod bolts. They've been known to elongate from normal use over time. What would adding extra downward force do to those? I'd imagine going over whoops would add a ton of force to those top bolts.
Add a small drain plug at the bottom, especially if you make a plastic one

@@ChupacabraOffroad agreed. Then you could pull your cooler drain and the box plug, hose everything out and make it simple.
Pretty cool box! Might try putting the seal on the lid instead of the box, that way you're not hitting it with the stuff you're putting in the box! Other than that looks great!

Cool box, Id have to back my x3 max on the trailer with that box on er in order to clear the trailer ramp, a built in well sealed and insulated cooler with a drain would be choice, and a bottle opener for camp ⛺️ 👌 an integrated chase light 🤔 throw that on it as well👍, all for under 800$ 🥰

Couple of things, that DJ tire strap @ the ratchet side needs to be longer or shorter as to not end up on the corner of the tire.
Another thing we did on our tire carrier is weld on 2 Tire stops so the tire does not slide forward on the rack.
Correct, this strap was off a different car, we will also use a higher quality option. I like the idea on the tire stops.
How about a rear view camera and a license plate mount for the state that allow them on the road.
