    what people forget is that these are demonstrations of techniques. it's not sparring. Aikido doesn't teach open sparring like you might find in MMA. why? For one, people get hurt. these joint locks, etc. if the guy doesn't play along and do breakfall, etc. then the technique ends with his broken joint. that's why people think it looks fake. but it's about practice and protecting yourself while learning the technique.

    I know, it’s hard to believe and scepticism is absolutely normal. Especially if you did not had any physical experience with Aikido and try to figure out the effectiveness of the techniques by watching. We can not negate, what we don’t understand. This is true for everything in life. In Aikido you learn many different techniques, to understand and absorb the underlying principles. What Shioda sensei show us in this video, are this underlying principles. Not self-defense techniques. In fact, Shioda sensei had many students from other martial arts like: Karate, Kendo, Judo, Wrestler and Boxer, who cross trained with him for a wile, to improve there own martial arts skills. Even Mike Tyson visited him once in Tokyo and was deeply impressed… That said, I will encourage MMA people to give it a try. Find a good Aikido teacher, be open hearted, let your competitive mind outside the dojo and try to understand those underlying principles. I’m sure you will find useful things and your technique will improve.

      GARCIE. Why was Judo the only one to accept Garcies challenge back then. If Aikido is as effective as you say it is why not accept the challenge back then ,you could have done what Gozo just did and just stepped on his Toes and there would be all the proof that Aikido is real you would have taken Garcie right out. I will tell you why no one from Aikido accepted, its because Aikido is total BOLOGNA it does not work and never will and you Aikido people can hide behind your skirts and say we don't fight people that is not what Aikido is about. You are correct when you say it has nothing to do with fighting unless you have your own students there to flip around for you.

      its GRACIE dipshit. not garcie. if your gonna throw names around know how to spell them. and rickson gracie is a shodan in aikido. so know your shit before you hate.

      ToniMattTony Don't worry I'm not trying to convince you... but I'm pretty sure that you never trained Aikido for a longer period of time. But I'm surprised that a person who is training since 1969 (the year the founder of Aikido died) is only 3rd dan in Judo and 1st dan Taekwondo? However, I'm not going mad at all, if you think that Aikido sucks. It's your opinion! So, why do Aikido people not fight...? Aikido has, with one exception, no competition. As simple as that... Aikido has been created to defeat the competitive mind people like you have. Effectiveness is not a question of style or school, it's all about your mindset and a lot of training. I know bouncers using Aikido for their daily job and they survived. The Tokyo riot police is training Aikido (Yoshinkan) since decades because of it's effectiveness. So there is no need to prove anything to anybody... But the real value of training in Aikido or Budo in general, is that you learn proper etiquette how to behave right, also towards an possible aggressor. A proper etiquette is the first step to evade a confrontation or rather to de-escalate a situation. I have some friends training in full contact martial arts for many years, but I never heard them run down somebody or something, just because they don't like it or don't understand.

    • @ToniMattTony
      @ToniMattTony 9 років тому +1

      OK there is no need to prove anything you say then you go on and write a fucking letter. You don't see Chuck ladle writing letters say how effective MMA is this is because he denote have to prove it in a letter he proves it like I have in the ring. But Aikido people hide behind the pen because this is the only way you can say Aikido is effective you can't prove it because as soon as one of you stepped in the ring all the walls around Aikido will start to tumble and fall and a billion dollar industry built on lies will disappear so don't give me the Tokoyo police and Samurai BOLOGNA. Get in the ring but you can't that must suck having to defend your preference with a pen.

    Many people still don't get the idea of fighting with one's self. Maybe one could train to fight with ten others or more but how about one hundred or some people with guns? You will just scale the floor or even lie in blood sooner or later if you always get in the fights recklessly. So the point is that if you can win over yourself, control your aggression then you will be able to negate any unnecessary mess. Some times it'll be better to talk yourself out of the fight than to take up a stronger opponent. That is wisdom, not cowardice and it is not only about martial art but also the art of behaving in life which is one of Aikido's principles.

    How many fights of Seagal's that he had in Japan did you actually see? Any art can appear to suck if the person is not all that good at it.If you could have witnessed his fights I bet you would see things much different.

    I would like to react on some of your comments, Gozo Shioda sensei is giving a demonstration it is not a selfdefence course, but what worries me most is that you are giving comments on one of the biggest martial artist in Japan. This sensei was chosen to give be head of the selfdefence department for the Tokyo Police, you want me to believe that they will take some idiot as there teacher, come on. And before you coment on stuff experience it first for yourself.

  • @thesilful

    First I must admit that there are aikido styles that I think wtf!, even my grandma can whipe the floor with them, but not Gozo Shioda. This was some special sensei, who was not someone to mess around with. His favorit uke was Takeno sensei (you search on youtube) to his own accounts he came home bruised and black blue because Shioda sensei didn't hold back with his techniques, but if you find video's of Takeno sensei and still claiming that this aikido style is BS,

  • @thesilful
    @thesilful 11 років тому +1

    I bet my house on it that you never set foor on a tatami with a yoshinkan aikidoka, as also with a bjj guy, still you revere to them and mock this sensei.
    I am training BJJ (rickson gracie) for 6 years now and aikido for 12 years, that give my some practical knowledge, first go and visit a dojo and is it not your thing so be it, but don't comment negative because Bas Rutten set so. Aikido has a depth that even after years of training even Gozo Shioda sensei said he had so much still to learn.

    Dude your the one who started this whole fucking argument. All I did was stated my opinion on you tube. I have train in Kung Fu ,AIKI JITSU ,SEDIO But mostly 3 degree black belt in Judo and 1st degree black belt in TAe kwon do. But I have also boxed and currently BJJ.

  • @thesilful
    @thesilful 11 років тому +2

    Then I must question your overall look on things. But go beyond this, in Aikido I meet often people of 70 or 80 years still in good shape, and ofcourse they can't compete with guys of 17 years old, but who cares. Many old mma guys can't even talk normal anymore. I come from the Netherlands and Peter Aerts (3 x K1 champ) is recently retired, he visited a TV Show, he talked like he was retarded what a shame. And if you can stay physical and mentaly in shap with Aikido what is wrong with that.

    Locked? No, it is not subject to suggestion.
    These 'demos' don't teach you anything but bad habits - at best. If you like aikido for the exercise, fine ... it's a great workout. But don't think for a moment that you are learning how to defend yourself if you train as you see in this video. In fact, if you train like this, you are making yourself more vulnerable to a real attack. The techniques are fine as well, but not when they are trained this way.
    Just my 2 cents.

    • @Jiyukan
      @Jiyukan 5 років тому

      It is a demo. Why the funk would anyone "train this way"? Obviously the training to be able to make demos like this is completely different. Never seen a boxer? A boxing demo? Do they spring the rope in a demo? Do they punch the sack in a demo? Obviously not ...

    You think that Helio Gracie can stop a 9 mm, or can defend himself when three guys jump on him, that are srtupid discussion, who am I to say what is good or bad, or useless. Is Aikido usefull as selfdefense yes it is, is it 100 % covering "NO", but what is. You can say it is not for me, but not that is BS. That is all I like to comment, but to be curious what for Martial Arts are you practising?

    塩田剛三はリスペクトしているけど、このお弟子達は、いい人というか…もう少し絶対に倒されてたまるかというプライドというか…ね。そういう気持ちが感じられない。師匠は別格で自分が倒されるのが当たり前みたいな意識があるのは否めない。いい人で礼儀正しいけれど、それはダメだね。
    若い頃の塩田剛三なら、もっと悔しがって研究したでしょう。考え方が根本的にお弟子の先生方とは違う様で。
    いい人なだけでは、本物の技は掴めないんですよね。

    You will lose your house I have been training and teaching since 1969. I respect your training in BJJ. But as far as Aikido it sucks. there is nothing else to say. When a man can use his Ki to stop 6 men from moving him or holding him its BULLSHIT. And that is what Aikido is Bullshit.
