  • Kuiu. Is it worth the money???
    Kuiu apparel product review
    Company Website:
    www.kuiu.com/
So if you're into back country hunting and hiking or most forms of western hunting, there is a chance you have seen or heard of this company called Kuiu. They focus primarily on offering premium outdoor gear and apparel. If you just read that sentence you might be thinking to yourself "premium outdoor apparel???" That's right. They are bringing advanced fabric technology into the hunting industry. Their products offer an actual flexible athletic fit that allows you to move in ways that the back country sometimes demands. Their drawback? The price. It's not cheap by any means. So much so that it kept me from owning any of their products for some time. That is until I started shopping for a premium light weight backpack. They were having a sale and I decided to order their Kuiu Ultra 6000 pack. It sports a carbon fiber external frame and weighs just over 2 pounds empty. That is a significant weight savings over the 9 pound bag that I carried prior to this. My favorite part though was their transparency as a company that they talk about so often. What you see is what you get. That lead me to try their apparel line. I ordered a pair of Attack Pants and an Ultra Merino Crew T Shirt. To be fair, I have only worn them around the house but the minute you slip into them you'll quickly discover why so many people rave about these products. They're comfortable enough to sleep in yet durable enough to move with you and handle some rough and nasty terrain. I am just coming into this years hiking season and will continue to post updates to see how well these items hold up and perform. So far, I am a believer. I actually ordered this stuff in a solid color so that I could were this expensive hiking gear around town but they have some great camouflage colors as well. I hope this review was beneficial to you if you've been pondering on whether or not the Kuiu line is worth the money. I think so.

Nice to see a good review of a great product, non biased. I mix and match a lot of my gear, Kuiu and Sitka, but both have their pros and cons, as does anything these days! This stuff isn’t just gear, it’s survival equipment. Been guiding up in AK for a long time, pushed it, and tested it. I’m stoked the two companies keep making new products adhering to our addiction of extreme hunting. It’s pretty cool. Thanks for posting.

I agree with you. I now have a wardrobe of Kuiu clothing. Id probably have Sitka but Kuiu is less expensive and equal quality in my opinion. the fit, toughness, fast dry and warmth to weight ratio is pretty amazing.

I think sitka is bad ass looking but i agree some of what features you are looking for in kuiu you get 2 of those sitka you get only of of those features and 100 bucks more

I have both and love them both. The price is tough to swallow. Sitka makes a $700 coat, i bet its great but my god....

I have a climbing/mountaineering background. I am 27, and just getting into mountain hunting. I just ordered a couple of Kuiu products, an outlet priced rain jacket and a pelaton crew shirt. I hope the products are good, I am excited to get out in the field this year in some hunting cammys rather than my typical TNF and Mountain Hardware climbing clothes. Don't get me wrong, I love my climbing clothes, and I will be sticking with my Prana Zion pants, but the Kuiu looks awesome so its exciting and I hope the quality is there.

The Four Lazy J's I won't be hunting until Sept. 1st but I did do 7 days backpacking with it and I am very impressed with the rain jacket. It is super lightweight, and packed down tight, I kept it in the small pocket that I keep my backpack fly. I encountered a few sprinkles and a rain storm with light hail. It kept me dry, and it looked sweet. My hunt will be 9 days, unless I fill my tag earlier than that. I am confident that the rain jacket will keep me dry again. I will need to use it often to test its durability so maybe in one or two years I will have a better review.

I was disappointed with my "strong fleece" glove purchase. The stitching was poorly done and the gloves were very gently used, but started falling apart. Will not be making any more purchases as my complaint attempts went ignored. Suggest First Lite as an alternative. I bought wool base layers from them over a decade ago and all the items are still serviceable today. The "strong fleece" gloves fell apart in 60 days.

Just got the 7800 pack and tent for an upcoming Colorado elk hunt . I've been stuffing things in the pack for three days and still not full. WTH? So many pockets and zippers and pouches. Right now it's at 40 lbs and 3/4 full but feels light on my back. Amazing. Love it!

I've used their Ultra 6000 bag since it first came out. There are hardly any pockets but I'd like to think that keeps me from loading things I won't use just to haul extra weight. They're good bags, I've put a lot of miles on mine and I'm still satisfied with it.

I have the attacks, 145 zip-off bottoms, peloton 240 hoody. I’ll be buying more. Those merino bottoms are amazing. I haven’t had to zip them on or off yet. They seem so far to not be too hot or too cold.

I see hunters, all season, passing through town on their way out to the bush. Outfitted head to toe in sitka or kuiu usually, gassing up the truck while buddy goes into mcdonalds to grab their food. It's usually more of a fashion statement, needing to show off their $2000 worth of attire.

Agree 100% over priced gear for the fashion conscious hunter. Don’t get sucked in on the marketing!

It's definitely expensive, But I felt the same way y'all did until I tried it. Once I actually tried their gear on, I was blown away.
It's absolutely silent, it's extremely well thought out and designed. It's super warm and or breathable. You can tell they over engineered their gear and I personally appreciate it. I'm a believer now. I switched my entire setup out with their different systems , for me and my girlfriend, and Other than price( obviously) , you won't hear anything but praise towards the gear from us.
With that being said, it's certainly not neccesary to own the stuff, But if price isn't the end all- be all, Sitka is probably the best there is, in my opinion.

@@weirdmood8102 i can see that. Clearly it's good stuff. But, it's still way over-priced.

@@zzz7zzz9 yeah, I definitely agree with you there. Every damn thing is extremely overpriced in the hunting industry these days.....
Well... in every freakin industry. 🤷 it's out of control.

All I have heard is Kuiu is basically skinny jean hunting apparel. And they fight against repairs and warranty stuff. So what makes them better than Sitka? Who's gear seems to be way more silent and better fitting, while also standing behind their gear?

  • @someoneyouknow96

wait until you get to use the stuff. I have the attack pants too. the design is so intuitive it's not funny. you will love your hip vents for sure.
my personal complaint on the pants is the pockets are small. just a bit bigger and they would be perfect.

Not convinced, over priced gear for the fashion conscious part time hunter. Companies have got onboard and seen an opportunity to manipulate people’s opinions on gear, if your not wearing this very high end and overpriced product then your not really into your hunting or taking it seriously. Don’t get sucked in on the marketing people as you are being manipulated.

Isn't KIUI assembled in China? If yes. Why so expensive?

Has anyone else had a problem with the Attack pants? I wore them in the woods and they snagged really bad on everything, I had to pay £185.00 to get them shipped to UK, have to say Im not impressed with toughness.

I hunt AZ and all my gear is Kuiu, however, their clothing is not made for the desert. Jason strictly designed Kuiu for high mountain hunt. Therefore, they don’t perform well with other vegetation, but I love Kuiu for how well it works in all climates. I’m always warm, dry with minimal weight on any hunt.

They do snag some but athletic and stretch is nice! Cargo zip pocket could be a tad larger
