my friend did a career switch four years ago, and he was intending to stay jobless until he completes his studies. he spent 1.5 years studying and doing attachments related to this sector (data analyst) and he landed a job related to this sector after that. he started off with a pay cut too, but now after 2 years later, he is drawing the same pay as what he previously drew when he was in the construction sector. dont give up! its not easy but u’ll get there someday, and somehow :)
Just wanna add that I experienced the same thing like your friend... I graduated as an engineering and of course got into the engineering industry but soon realised that I wasn't enjoying what I was doing and even didn't have enough sleep sometimes as I was too stressed and maybe even too miserable at my job. So I secretly applied for other jobs whilst still at my old job. During my NS I got posted into an HR department and I really liked what I was doing, it was not engineering but I liked it. So I decided to apply for HR roles and I actually recieved a call back from them. I got into an interview with them and got the job. Funny enough, my old former company thought that I was taking leave to take a break but I was actually settling my paperworks for my new job 😂. Fast forward to present and I'm still enjoying my job and most importantly I can always have a good night sleep every night and not gonna lie, actually feel excited for the next day to do something I really like. I even went out and beyond to actually pursue and further my studies on HR while still working. It's tiring but I'm hoping it will come to fruition 😊. Edit: I forgot to mention that I also got a big pay cut like "massive" when I first got into HR... It was disheartening and my parents were so against it but I did it anyway at my own "leap of faith" lol. Took me a while to catch up with my old pay check but I got it back eventually😊.
Hello Yul! I also went through the same struggles as you during my 4-5 months of unemployment. Was a miserable time for me as well especially since my original plans didn't quite pan out the way I had hoped and I faced multiple rejections which was discouraging. Luckily, I just recently managed to land an offer at an unexpected place. It is still a pivot from where I originally was, even if it isn't my dream/ideal destination so in a way, it still is a positive step. Pay and benefits wise, it is thankfully a major step up which was what sealed the deal for me to accept the offer. Anyway, you've definitely gotten things more planned out and have taken more action than I have in making your pivot work and you're definitely more positive in your outlook, so I'm sure you'll find something satisfactory for sure!
OMG Congratulations! Thanks for updating comments with your job hunt, I remember you as the Archi dude 😂 very very happy for you!!! I wish you the best in the new job! Also appreciate the vote of confidence 🥹

All the best! Don’t feel like you’re falling behind just because you quit corporate. Everyone has their own timeline! Was excited to watch this vlog as usual 🤭

To be honest i miss the pay of a corporate and the nice ac in office haha… as now i’m in my final year as a nursing student the change is great no doubt about it. But Life is short so just do it and see where it takes me.. 🎉stay strong! 💪
Yes I remember your comment! Thanks for cheering on a fellow mid career switcher heh. I do miss the pay a bit, especially when I shop in Singapore 🤣 And whutttt, final yearrr - LAST LAP, LET’S GO!!!💪🏼
I would be interested in your vlog for JB groceries trip that happens once every 2 weeks! Like which malls you normally would go to and where to get better offers. Cause I only go to City Square, KSL and Mid Valley Mall which a lot of Singaporean go to, and the shops there might mark up the price.
Not sure if this helps but I was recently in a similar pickle having pursued a Graduate degree to switch roles! Definitely unsettling and receiving >2X rejections in a span of 2 weeks was extremely tough to bear. Honestly just picking and relating the transferable skill sets via my resume and subsequent interviews helped landed my current dream role. You can do it too! All the best :)
THANKS FOR THIS!!! Gives me hope!!! This was what I was trying to do with the resume tailoring. Just picking out what I think were transferable and highlighting it in resume haha!
I think we can all afford ourselves to hop off the travellator once in a while for personal fulfillment and goals . We can work on becoming a kinder and more fulfilled person . My personal views : Accumulate as much money as you can . Optimize your spending , so that it is easier to hop off the travellator when you want to , and stay outside of it for as long as you need to
I’m on the same journey as you now. Just left my corporate job 1.5 months ago, I gave myself 1 year to look for a job. BUT I’m also getting impatient, even though I did get an offer. Unfortunately, the offer wasn’t something I wanted and I declined it politely. Then, I got back into a cycle of anxiety after declining the offer. Hahaha, I just have to keep reminding myself that with every interview and every rejection I’ve gotten I gained more exp points towards the job and offer I want. Even if I’m not qualified enough, I have time now, I can start doing something about it. My friends always love to use the phrase “rejections are redirections”. So, ALL THE BEST!!! We deserve the career we want!!! ❤
Our journeys thus far are sooo similar 😆 I believe we are now clear about what we want, hence the pickiness! Love what your friends say about rejections. Thanks for leaving a comment on this, all the best to us both!!!💪🏼🔥
unfortunately, it's a 'buyers' market when it comes down to candidates these days. Companies can be ultra picky and blunt because there is a glut of candidates. We posted an opening a few days ago and received about 80+ CV's so far (and counting). Unfortunately, we can only spend less than a minute reading/reviewing each CV to make a decision on whether to put them into our 'potential candidates' folder or not. To be honest, we know within the first 30 seconds of quick scanning a CV whether we like someone or not.
😢 this is why it’s so important to tailor the resume and make it stand out to recruiters! I get called for interview roughly once every 15-20 job applications sent 🫠 Tiring but I WILL KEEP TRYING 🔥
Wishing you get an employment soon, then seek to get your course under Skillsfuture funding if not done already.
