A wonderful idea for an anime, to have all the soundtrack music in English. And my LORD, but they found a beautiful voice for this song. Music credits for the OVA go to Joey Carbone and Richie Zito
Samantha Newark, the LA-area vocal talent who sung "In Your Eyes" (the ballad that plays while B-ko is in the bath) was also the speaking voice of Jem, the main character of the popular American cartoon of the same name. She did not actually sing any of the songs from the show.
Looking in your eyes How I hope that you will see my heart That our lives will meet -- never have to part Feelings here inside How I wish the world would go away All would disappear -- but you and I would stay And I'd be -- forever in your eyes Standing in the dark Wanting only to be next to you Shine your light on me -- nothing else will do Deep inside my heart I believe that you and I could be Friends forever more -- through eternity And you'd see -- me forever in your eyes The two of us together I see it in my dream Nothing can tear us apart Through any kind of weather It's always you and me Together we can stand the test of time
I didn't know until recently that these songs were originally recorded in English. I hadn't seen Project Ako since the days of the Sci-Fi channel so I had only ever seen it dubbed.
@@JazzStation95 all the voice actors worked in california while the music was produced and recorded in new york and atlanta, so they hired singing voices for all the characters rather than regularly sending a bunch of tapes across the country
Most of the English Soundtrack was recorded in L.A. back during late ‘85. The Film actually got a Subbed release in Indie film theaters during the Fall of 1986 appearing at the Sundance Film Festival. It was the first Anime film to be English subbed upon its Americanized release. Manga UK handled its Dub in late 1991. Outsourced by Central Park Media.
AudioXVNVXOh, I wish you all the luck in the world, especially since you intend on sharing the link. Someone may have to do a cover though. I'd guess the original file was lost or disposed of after it was used in the film. I wonder if there's a good midi app with a music box tone so I could make it myself.

I'm kinda surprised there aren't any covers of the A-ko songs, especially this one. Given how the lyrics are already in English, it cuts out a major step for anime cover song UA-camrs.
That beautiful young woman was a fun character but a big pain to A-Ko. I like A-Ko more than her but both are great together even if Bug-Ko has to try to win C-Ko all the time.
@@NAJ0202 Yup. It was Heavily Shojo Ai themed and stirred up a bit of controversy when it was first distributed stateside in Indie Theaters back in September 1986, even though its Late Spring ‘86 Japanese theatrical rollout was a huge box office success, when it was English subbed, the idea of a Japanime(Anime wasn’t yet used as a term) having those taboos just seemed alien to Western audiences. That’s why it took half a decade to finally get a Home video release. CPM even had Manga UK omit ever single reference to Girl Love in their ADR script from the original Japanese script.
It is. Project Ako was a Lesbian Comedy film. Eiko Protects Shiko because she has sisterly feelings for her that imply unrequited Lesbian love towards Shiko, Shiko is childish and innocent and thus Eiko feels it’s her duty to protect her. Biko meanwhile has a Crush on Shiko and uses her connections to try to manipulate Shiko into becoming her friend so that Biko can make her move on her and groom her into her lesbian lover. These overtones especially A HS Girl wanting to groom another girl who was implied to be only 12 years old, were WAY to taboo for Reagan era Americans so in ‘86, it stirred up a bit of flack among American audiences who saw it in Indie theaters, so for 5 years, it remained unavailable on US VHS. When John O’Donnell finally had CPM distribute and dub it on Video in late 1991, he had Manga UK remove every single reference or implying of Lesbian love from its ADR script.
Samantha "Jem" Newark sang this song!
Joey Carbone also used this song in the Fame TV show. It's in season 6, "The Crimson Blade".
This is a really elegant song. This anime will always be my favorite anime of all time for the rest of my lifetime ^_^
Still your fav?

I didn’t know Jem and the Holograms and Project A-Ko had that connection and I grew up with both! Cool! 👍🏾
The first anime that I bought with my own money. Back in those days, you had to buy either the Japanese language or English language VHS tape lol.
Same! My first one was the Birdy the Mighty ova with the bad English dub. 👏🏾
Still great after all these years. ❤
This feels more like a Jem song describing Jerica to Eric. Nice find.
Magnificent. So many memories. Very emotional song.
This has been one of my favorite songs, since I was a teenager.
By far one of the best OVAs of the 80s!😎🤟🎸👩🎤👨🎤🎹🎵🎶📼📻🎥📺

You can purchase the entire A-Ko soundtrack at a website called mp3va dot com. Do a search for "Joey Carbone and Richie Zito"
One word: Beautiful!
I wonder if I was the only kid who's parents freaked out when they saw boobies on the cartoon they rented me from blockbuster?
Lovely song this----but all the A-KO songs are lovely. John.
One of my all time favorites! The reason I got into Japanese animation. The whole soundtrack to project Ako is fantastic!
Got me into both anime and lesbianism, lol! 😆
I love this song, it´s the funniest anime ever!
"friends forevermore" yep, just gals being pals
Samantha Newark I'm pretty sure was Jens speaking voice in the series.
Yep, she was. :)

"Her eyes! The way she moves!!"
*whimpers*

Did not expect this anime to have an R&B slow jam track.
Doesn't sound like R&B in opinion. It's a beautiful poop song. I'm not a big fan of R&B, although there are a few songs and artists I like.
I wish Lou Bonnevie would also do a version of this one.

Who doesn't love 80's lesbianism.
