- Today we are putting polyurethane on my new & refinished wood floors!! Who is excited to see these floors finished?!
Hey there! My name is Abby and I recently bought a MAJOR fixer upper house. I am SO excited to work on fixing it up this old house and turning it into my dream home. I can't wait to take you on this journey with me! I am planning to DIY as much as I can and learn so much about home renovations along the way. I am starting out totally clueless so I am sure it will be a grand adventure! Lets just give Jay a standing O! I'm 61, and I hurt the next day from just mopping a floor!! All the work this man has done!!! Not that Abby hasnt too, but I can only hope he doesnt ache like I do. ❤❤ The floors are just perfect.
I'm SO glad you kept the floors upstairs. They add so much character to the house, and the two newer boards just tell a different story, so it's GREAT!
Sharon here....Abby my thoughts are, maybe you could of stained the two boards that are different to come up closer to the others then put the shellac down. But I love the chacter of the wood and it's charm. History in those floors! 👍☺❤
Right, it’s all character in my opinion.
Those spots will disappear when covered by rugs, furniture, wear & tear. It’s an old house with character & it's absolutely lovely! 💕

Abby. Remembering the hard work and labor that your sweet Dad went thru cutting every single board, the planking process, the installation, you and your helper way careful and measuring exact.....this gives this beautiful new floor the class and character, full of memories! I took up my kitchen, great room, hallway and my office wood and carpet to replace my flooring myself as well. I chose Acacia which is full of different shades of browns from dark to almost vanilla. It took no time at all to get used to it and be so grateful!! You both have worked so hard throughout your dream home, and you've chosen carefully. Trust yourself and your choices and be very happy living in it after all your labors! Be well, be safe, be happy. a great job!!!

I was coming to say that the female Siamese cat trait is to be more standoffish and independent. I have have every type of Siamese (except longhair) and have found that the female is more aloof than a male, until they have kittens. Mother Siamese are very attentive, proud and protective of their babies. They will share with the human families but be very attentive to their kittens cries. Your kitties are happy to have a home with you and your floors look fabulously lovely. Great job and I love the character of the wide planks upstairs. May I suggest that you paint the register cover a brass or antique bronze color. It would be amazing and then leave the rug off the replaced wood so the sun came age it.
You and Jay have worked hard on your beautiful floors. Don't forget to protect them with garnet paper at least in rge main walkways until you complete your tasks and get ready to inhabit your new home ❤

Looking good. Wondering if protective cardboard floor covering for downstairs until finished. It will be hard not to scratch with build activities.
I think Gomer is part Rag doll. They have dark socks, tails and face. Very smart cats and independent. But you also can't go wrong with a Tuxedo cat. We had ours (Snickers) for 14 years. Then again he was an indoor cat so life expectancy is definitely longer. I absolutely love your floors on the main level. I would love kitchen cabinets made of the same wood.
The floors are awesome. You both did a great job and they should last for several years.

Your floors look awesome, the older they get the better they look. Won't be long until your gonna need those radiators all plumbed and working. The things you still need to do are fun projects and rewarding.

Incredible just incredible! The floors look beautiful! If the new boards bother you I have seen other DIY’ers add stain to poly and touch up just those boards to match the new with the old, might be something to research. But I think it adds your story to your home which is getting closer to that Christmas tree in the bay window! Love the progress you’re making! Great job Abby and Jay!

You'll love having the hard wood floors. They look great. One thing to remember is the dulling agent settles in the poly. You have to mix thoroughly first, otherwise some areas will be glossy and other areas dull.

Instead of sourcing a heavy vintage cast iron circle ceiling vent cover, a DIYable round vent cover for ceiling downstairs, take a lightweight ceiling medallion that has a thick enough edge detail ( for gluing/ screwing to drywall) you can cut the entire center out to then put a circle of pretty cut design sheet metal ( like they use in radiator covers) paint everything the same color as ceiling to blend in nicely.???? The floors looking Fabulous!! Nice work 😻

By the time you get a rug and furniture in the room you will never notice the two light floor boards. Love the kitchen floor color. Great job.

Floors look fab! I would mix a tiny amount of dark stain concentrate colour with your floor top coat and go over the two boards that look out of place and try to blend them in with the rest of the floor.

The floors are so warm looking!! What a difference. I love it! I wonder if you could use some darker stain on those "whiter" boards in the bedroom? It seems that would be possible?? 🤷♀️

If you want to resand and start over on those two boards, take a board of the maple to a paint store like benjamin moore and they will find the stain that matches the best . That way you don't have to buy serveral different stains. Also if you stain remember to apply conditioner first for uniform color.

I would have finished under cabinets to protect them. I would also mask off around new wood (in bedroom) and apply a light stain that closely matches floors. Just a little sanding then apply, then Poly. Sometimes old coffee can do the trick to age new wood.
