This is so informative! These are things that many people don't think about when they are starting their fashion brands. Depending on who you are marketing to, the design details, fabric selection, and sewing construction also need to reflect that market. Too many out here with low quality design selling at a really high price point. Thanks for a great video!!!!💕
Great breakdown design process Zoe Hong! Its good that you mentioned all is considered when designing at all levels. Yes, when in fast fashion they do french seams it is impressive because as you mentioned most of the time is overlocked finish. Please clear something out for me Zoe, when you say Contemporary is that what used to be also called a Bridge Line? Thank you for all the great content you make for us all who love Fashion in your great channel Zoe Hong!
"Bridge" is technically the price point that slots between the contemporary and designer/luxury price points, serving both of their markets. Traditionally, this price point was reserved for the diffusion lines of designer labels: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Marc Jacobs), Miu Miu (Prada), See by Chloé (Chloé), McQ (Alexander McQueen), Just Cavalli (Roberto Cavalli). Nowadays, this is price point is has relabeled itself as "Advanced Contemporary", due to rise of designers selling in that price point, like Jacquemus Alyx, and Y/Project, and the closure and absorption of most of those diffusion lines. Even Miu Miu has rebranded itself as "Miuccia's eponymous label" instead of "Prada's little sister".
@@ladyjunon6305 Thank you for clearing that up and yes all of the categories have changed a lot, the first time I heard of Bridge was in the late 80's.
Since you mentionned reusing a pattern over different collections once you have developped a good fit, maybe you could talk about how to incorporate said pattern into various inspirations and concepts? It might be out of the scope of this series but maybe in a later video
I guess it depends on how you plan to integrate it. Because if it s the look/silhouette, then you can play with different placements of it on the body or scaling up and down the volumes, warping proportions of it. If you re thinking of using the literal pattern to create something new, that requires technical knowledge I believe. For instance, if you make a billowing palazzo trouser that becomes iconic, you can take the general silhouette and make it a dress or a coat. But if you want to keep the essence of it, just using some of the main design's interesting details in something more plain or symetrical is enough.
In this instance, I'm talking about a pant pattern. If you're making pants, you're making pants with every collection. Each season, you can change the colors, the fabrics, maybe the length, maybe the pockets, but the fit of pants around the butt, crotch, hips, and waist will remain the same because the fit is part of your brand. You can add different embellishments, change from a straight leg to a boot cut, change the zip fly to a button fly etc etc etc but the fit should stay the same.
Wow finally some inovative ideas, cause for me fashion designers are kinda becoming a bit of a printer always doing the same things, and ur idea and concept is so unique and inovative and so dope. Can't wait to see the finall colection when it's out😍🤩🙌🤌👌🔥
Hey was wondering if you could do a video or recommend a video about high end finishing when getting pieces made what cues should we consider in the details to compete with the craftsmanship of higher end brands
@@zoehongteaches thank you for replying....can we also show our design process in portfolio?....Also please put together this collection into portfolio .❤️
Hey Zoe!! Things are really picking up speed for my fashion classes. I was wondering, at what point do you name a collection and how do you keep it from being too corny? What I’ve made for a moodboard so far I’d describe as Nostalgic Futurism. I just think that’s way too on the nose and I can’t come up with something else! Edit: settled on “Retrospect” but my teacher wanted a little more detail, so we’ve compromised on “Retrospect: Y2K”
hi zoe, 1st of all i love your teaching skill, you literally help me understand the topic better.. my q is, is there any sort of guidance or tips to combine texture on texture. i mean ive heard a lot about contrasting colours in colour wheel, colour that sits beside etc..but i havent heard any about texture. would it be nice if we layer texture with other texture such as leather and lace or denim with patch tweed(?)..can we just random mix match those texture together or is there any tips that we all can follow..thank you so muchhh in advance. sorry too if this sounds silly question.

That's more about trying things out and seeing what works and what doesn't according to your aesthetic and the effect you're going for.
