    *Note: Did NOT fix non-functional A/C (needed new compressor), but still nice to get rid of an error code!

    Thanks for the video. I just completed the replacement and if it's helpful for others, I have a 2002 Z06 and the screws that hold the actuator to its mount required a 7/32 socket. I used a small 1/4 socket set and it worked out well. As your video said, patience is your best friend in this repair. It's not hard, but you need to take your time. I found beer breaks helpful in resetting my patience and things went smoothly thereafter.

      Glad the video was helpful Chuck! And yes, beer breaks (or whatever your drink of choice) are always an unspoken necessity for any project, as long as no power tools are involved! 😂

      @@1Brain4Wheels great video! Question. Disconnect battery and then install Actuator and rest of dashboard. Reconnect battery. Start engine. Is that correct?

    • @1Brain4Wheels
      @1Brain4Wheels  11 місяців тому

      @@lightworker4512 exactly right, you want to have the battery disconnected so it doesn’t start moving the connection point and make it a pain to align the new part. Once it’s connected you’re good to go, you could even start it up prior to reassembling all of the dash if you wanted to verify it’s all good :)

    There is a very easy way to take out the instrument cluster. I did a video on it a few days ago. I watched yours and didn't want to tear out the top part of the dash. It literally took me 15 min to get it out.

    I have sure have to take my hat off to you Garrett. You really get deep into things and they all seem to work when you are done. Someone once told me when I was contemplating taking something apart that someone making a lot less money put it together originally. That was when they put things together with screws and metal clips. Even the Chevrolet dealer left a half dozen broken plastic clips on the floor of my Silverado dually after replaced the AC controller in the dash. My C 7 Corvette has a problem on a cold day (50) and the climate control set at 68 with the AC off. All is fine until I get stuck in traffic when it starts belching out 100+ air. Even the Chevrolet dealer doesn't seem excited to see why it is doing that. My fix for that is to run the compressor whether it is needed or not.
    Take care Garrett. I hope you have avoided the corona virus.

      Hey Brian, happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸 You know, sometimes when I’m in the middle of these projects, I sit back and wonder “what did I just get myself into...”, especially when they don’t always go as planned, but knock on wood I’ve been lucky for the most part! It also helps to have backup cars in case a project goes longer than expected. ;) The thing that keeps me coming back for more is that happy feeling when it all comes together, looking back even just 5 years ago I’m not so sure I would’ve felt confident enough to try half the stuff I leap into now, but I’m glad to keep learning haha

      Yup it's crazy how it's that much (2k+) for a simple job it it me only 30mims to take out. But I was already use to taking off dash to the point you really don't need the screws to hold the center console. Everything fits better in my opinion. I spent $468 just for I can be told I had a AC leak....... 😂 And just now seeing this video 🤦‍♂️

    • @1Brain4Wheels

      Hi Donald, I had to do some digging but apparently the C4’s only have a single blend actuator for the HVAC system, and it’s accessible on the passenger of the dash. I’ll link you to a good write up with pics on the Corvette forum - good luck! :) www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c4-general-discussion/3753354-how-to-replace-blend-door-motor-w-pics-95-corvette.html

    What about the door or valve that controls the HVAC's fresh air versus recirculated cabin air? Where is that, and can it be replaced? I believe mine is trashed because whenever I'm at a traffic light behind a truck or bus, and my HVAC is in recirc mode, I smell exhaust coming into my car. So I have to turn off the air conditioner until the traffic light turns green. I've owned my C5 for eight years, and this particular problem just started last month.

      Hey Gus (and Joe), so for the passenger side, once you take off the entire dash pad, you should be able to remove the actuator (which is mounted to the evaporator) with the evaporator still in place... at least I haven’t seen anyone reporting that they had to remove it? Let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll be glad to help if I can! Also, random question but what state do you live in, I’m a Villegas too, would be funny if we’re related!

      And when you did the install you had the battery disconnected? If not, then disconnect for a few minutes and reconnect so that the actuators can calibrate their positions. If that’s not the problem, I was reading this forum thread (www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c5-tech/2866836-a-c-blowing-hot-air-on-passenger-side.html) and some people having this issue are just low on Freon (passenger side gets the cold air first), so I’d look into both of those and see if they help. :)

    • @1Brain4Wheels
      @1Brain4Wheels  3 роки тому +1

      Based on what you’re telling me, I bet your passenger side actuator is going out :( For that one, you would need to remove the dashboard... once out it’s in a similar position as the drivers side one, just on the other side (hopefully that makes sense)

    I removed my driver's side seat and accessed this part from below. I was done in an hour and a half and that was with much futzing around in there. It's a hair difficult at times, but nowhere near as involved as this process!

      There’s only one for each side (driver or passenger side temp. control) so if you’re only replacing one like I did in the video then just buy the one, but if you do both sides you’ll need two in total-hope that clears it up! :)
