- Sky News host James Macpherson says Canadian “stupidity” was on display when their parliament accidentally honoured a former Nazi Waffen SS soldier.
Canada’s House Speaker Anthony Rota announced his resignation after praising Ukrainian veteran Yaroslav Hunka for fighting against Russia in World War II.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed the mistake was due to Russian disinformation and propaganda.
“You can rely on the Canadians to double down on bad,” Mr Macpherson said.
“So first they applaud a Nazi, and then they blame the Russians, and then they try to have the whole thing deleted from history.
“Just the way they had World War II deleted from history when they rose to applaud a guy for fighting against the Russians.”

As a Canuck, I was floored when I heard about this because the first thing that came to mind was "But, if he was fighting the Russians in WW2 that would mean... well it would mean he was with the Germans of course!" WHY the Speaker, who looks to be older than me, didn't KNOW this as a general culture question, seemed rather surprising to me, but to have everybody in the bloody parliament stand up and applaud this just made me shake my head. It was truly a the king has no trousers moments, when you realize the group effect over-rides common sense, and common knowledge! But after covid, I suppose that shouldn't surprise me either... Even when Justin FINALLY addressed Parliament and offered his "apologies", he STILL didn't take ANY responsibility for it and instead threw the Speaker under the bus. Again, no great surprise there either. It's gone to hell in a hand basket lads, and I don't think there's anything to be done to save it. The ship is sinking fast.

Mr. Zelensky knew with 100% certainty that Mr. Hunka was a Nazi. The person who prepared the text of Mr. Hunka’s presentation to the Canadian parliament knew it. Mr. Hunka for years has been bragging about being a Nazi and had all interner plastered with his photos in a Nazi uniform. in Ukraine they have been for many years now demolishing monuments to the Soviet troops who liberated Ukraine, which was completely under the Germans for three years and was entirely liberated only in 1944. That is, it was occupied from 1941 to 1944 by the Germans and the only people who fought Soviet troops on the territory of Ukraine were the fascists during the world war 2.
But for Mr. Zelensky it was all natural, he was in his element, now the fascists Stepan Bandera and Shukhevych are praised and exalted and declared national heroes. They were fascist collaborants and commited atrocities agains Jews, Russians and Poles. Interestingly, Mr Trudeau never could pronounce the word of apology to Russians, but blamed Russia for giving 2 standing ovations to a Nazi after announcing that “He fought Russians” (and naturally killed Russians) and, logically, “supports the Ukranian regime now”. But NO word of apology. Jews-yes, Poles-yes, Russians silence. So if being a Nazi he kileed Jews and Poles that was reprehensible, but Russians - no word. Horrible hypocrite! a word "Russian" in context "he fought and killed" - that was 2 standing ovations, "national hero" . but to apologize to ethnical Russians - no way! Really. Trudolf!

As a Norwegian, I have great respect of what our allied Russians did: Not only did they fight the hardest battles, winning them with high human losses and sacrifices, but they entered Norwegian soil pushing our common enemy back - and, respected borders and friendly retreated at the end of WW2. This cannot and shall not be forgotten! Canadians saluting enemies of the allied just proves incompetence, stupidity and ignorance - it is not only appalling, but diminishes them as toddlers of countries.

If you announce someone as a veteran who fought Russians in WW2, you effectively said he was a Nazi or a Nazi collaborator. It's that simple. Nobody is that stupid, it was done on purpose.
Not exactly. Until 1941 Russia (eg Soviet Union) was hitler's close ally. So if someone fought against Russians between 1939 and 1941 then he was "a good guy" :)
It's not that simple though. A heap of innocent people got caught up in the middle of it and it was either you take the gun handed to you by whichever side turned up at your door first... or you die right then and there along with your entire family.
