Not necessarily! Some large flying birds don’t fly very often except for in short bursts, whereas others are ‘active soarers’ (ex: albatrosses), with wings adapted for soaring over water as long as wind currents are favorable. Vultures have a specific wing structure for ‘passive soaring’, in which the wings are long and broad, ending at the wingtips in long primary feathers with wide gaps in between. It all depends on the type of bird and the bird’s lifestyle! (diet, ecology, etc.)

They are the only living terrestrial vertebrates with this lifestyle, so there really aren’t any other extant terrestrial vertebrates they can be compared or equated to in terms of their role as obligate scavengers.
