@@ItIsJustKetchup Cool, maybe we'll have them soon! You'd think since I live in Walmart's home state, we'd have them, but sometimes they're slow to show up.
Glad to see that's the '86s Dakar-Rally bodywork. The non-turbo '85 car doesn't seem to have the intakes in the rear wheel arches, aside from the intercooler and front and rear bumper vent differences. The '86 ones were just the updated '85 chassis and engine. Porsche switch from normally aspirated 3.2-liter to a twin-turbo 2.8 liter set-up.
I love car culture. Really. But above all, i love Hotwheels's guys. They're beating themselves everytime. They made a lot, i mean A LOT of great, great models, specially in the last 5 to 10 (?) years. This set in particular...omg. All winners. All must haves. Great great job. Thanks John for sharing them, showing them with love and professionalism. Hats off.
i am a Porsche fan so of course i was waiting with trepidation for this 959 to be released. It looks good and i hope we will see more versions of it soon. Great set overall although i feel they should have focused more on the rally aspect of all terrain. I would not have minded seeing a premium version of the old Escort Cosworth casting.
Elisio Da Costa same here. Glad they didn’t do something dumb like making the rear wheels bigger that they should be. They did that with the Shelby Daytona and ruined it.
@@Guy-em4ck that's part of the old Hot Wheels design ethics. It has changed drastically in the past 2 years with a new generation of designers aiming for accuracy as you can see in both mainline and premium releases, all the new castings being done for Car Culture or F&F being prime examples.
I got my set in today. I'm a big 80s rally fan and the 959 was an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE for me. Normally I don't save the card backs but these are so gorgeous I cut off the bubbles. I don't feel bad about sacrificing my F&F Off-Road Camaro for a custom because this one is so, so much better! But yeah, oof. They're all amazing but the Porsche is the real gem of this mix for me.
I would've much preferred to see a normal 959 in the iconic red (the old casting isn't really that accurate) but this rally one is nice. Probably the only model I will get from this set.
Your absolutely correct, and before the 959 competed in Dakar, they first tested the prototype 4wd system in a regular 911 (953) under Rothmans at the 1984 Dakar rally, and won. There was a also a endurance racing version of the 959 called the 961, unfortunately not that competitive, but still really cool....
Miguel Garcia that’s cool. Didn’t know the first part and I’ve heard of the 961 (got a Tamiya model of it) but didn’t know it was used in endurance races. It’s hard to find models, esp RC, that use the Rothmans name in the livery. I think mini champs has the 956 and 962 in 1/43 scale with the name, but if you look at the Kyosho MiniZ 962 the word Rothmans is replaced with Racing. Same with Kyosho Hang on racer motoGP bike. I guess it has to do with the ban on tobacco products advertising in motorsports but strange that Kyosho and other companies change it on a vehicle that raced before the ban.
Loved this video. Seen other openings of the set & thought...don't get a set, something wasn't clicking for me. But you actually gave these cars life & I see the set differently & want a case now. My pics - Bronco#1, Camaro, LRD 110, Unimog & 959. Was anxiously awaiting the 959. Like you, it was the car on my wall, when it went up, all others came down. Back then the only other car that could take my attention from the 959 was the 288 GTO. I think the wheels are making me not as excited as I should be for this casting. Great vid, TY👍🏾
I have to say that the (new tool) Porsche 959 is my personal highlight, followed by the '85 Ford Bronco. The rest ( '88 Mercedes Unimog, Land Rover Defender 110 and '67 off Road Camaro) look nice is their liveries as well. Getting the whole set as i like the off-road theme, yep. Thanks for the presentation!
The 959 was a beautiful car and I remember collecting these car cards that said on the back it cost $300,000 in the 80’s I’ll bet it’s worth well over a million now.
Smart set, I have the Defender 110 on the way to me, got the Period correct & Fast & Furious versions too & a code 3 as a red cross off road ambulance,
I love the 959, as a ford fan growing up in the 90's, I love the bronco of course, but that 959 is great. I hate to be the party pooper, but it is quite unlikely that they'll do a street version of it because the wheel wells are so large to fit the offroad wheels. Maybe I'm wrong, hopefully, lol.
Personally, while I love the rally version, I'd be fine with Mattel just bringing back the old version of the 959 as a street vehicle for Car Culture. Some 1980s castings have been used in Car Culture, most notably the Sunagon (VW Vanagon), which was technically a retool for Hot Ones 2011 but it's pretty much a perfect replica of the 1980s casting.
I am pleased to see these and I would love to get them all, wondering if they'll be hard to find or if retailers learned something when mass quantities of the F&F off-road set still managed not to be peg warmers
Found this set tonight minus the 88 Mercedes Unimog U1300. My pet peeve is people breaking up a set when they first come out at stores,Grrrrr. Now I have to spend a bunch of time hunting it down!
Maybe we'll see them before September here in Central Texas! Considering the stores haven't put out any new cars since the end of February...we're still on C & D cases....I rather doubt it.
I'm only missing the Mercedes from this set. Got 2 Tacoma's in blue today by mail from a friend and was looking for some wheels for it, was thinking about one of these but after watching this, a ain't doing it. This set is so underrated here in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 and i might be the only one that appreciate it, specially the history of the Porsche 959.
Surprisingly, the Land Rover it's so good in these series. reminds me of the Camel Trophy times! The 959 is good but hopefully they can make another road normal but premium one.
That Defender in that yellow -gold is about as close to a Camel Trophy look as you can get. Samwe with that gorgeous Porsche 959. Similar colors to the Rothman's livery. I aam glad they finally redid that 959. It needed an update.
In my order. 1 bronco, 2 mog, 3 defender, 4 porsche, 5 camaro. I honestly wanted the porsche to be at the top but I just personally think it lacks in quality. Don't like how the wheels fit and how the tampo doesn't go under the arches. It's supposed to be z premium casting but has a few quality issues. The bronco is by far the best executed model in this collection closely followed by the mog. Only my opinion! 🤷♂️
Awesome car culture wild terrain set you got, you open up, and you reviewed congrats. 👍They're all my favorites. 👍I will be on the hunt for all 5 of those and I can't wait to add all 5 of those to my hotwheels collection. 👍
We are in the same era of debating which is best the 959 or the F40. U am huge 959 fan, had one as Matchbox back in the eighties, it was my favorite car to race in Test Drive 2 back in the early pc car games. But i have to say the one i want in this set is the CHP Bronco 😁🇵🇭
Porsche developed the 959 for Group B, so rally is in its DNA! Back in the early 00s, a friend of mine managed to snap a pic of Bill Gates driving his 959 on one of the floating bridges on Lake Washington. He posted it to our imports forum... everyone went nuts lol
I would say just as much....... The 037 and the 959 are the only hotwheels I care about this year. hopefully they at least put the Martini racing strip on it...... I mean Hasbro still does it for transformers.........
If anyone has an extra Magnus RLC 964, I’m in the market for a descent priced one!! Been buying the older Porsche’s I didn’t have! Love the 959, Bronco, the new 90 but am really after some RLC!
This was the first time I had the set before Lamley did the review. I am proud of that!
What state are you in? I can't find them in Arkansas, and we usually get them ASAP.

Love the card art on this set!! Bronco is my favorite!
It’s the battle of the 80’s off road vehicles lol
Cool and nice Porsche 959.
All about that Bronco.
Let's get this party started. My son is so pumped up for this.
What an awesome set! I can’t wait to get these
Looking forward to getting the Ford Bronco.
Great set , awesome presentation with all your cars. Cheers
When they gonna make an OJ Simpson Bronco 😂
Mehdi Mohamed Oh no lol 😂
Its coming, with 20 police cars behind it lol🤣🤣😎👍
