Hello Chiamaka, I would like to help this couple. The man has really shown a genuine willingness to quite which is the most important thing. As a mental health clinician with my over 14 yrs experience in providing care for folks with drug and alcohol addiction, I can say for sure that is not an easy task for an alcoholic or any drug addict to suddenly stop. Is not possible! The individual has to go through a gradual process of rehabilitation and detoxification program with counseling and proper detoxification therapy/management.

I can't believe am actually feeling sorry for hm, the begging was unbearable. It's definitely not going to be easy. I don't know the kind of support you all have in Nigeria, here in the US we have AAA- Alochol Anonymous. My son was an Alcoholic. He tried AAA several times and failed. I use to go to meetings with him, the stories you would hear. My son stopped drinking abruptly one day seven yrs ago. He had a ruptured blood vessel in his right eye, his blood pressure went up. The thought of him taking blood pressure medications with the side effects for a man. I thank God for that faithful day on the job.😊

An alcoholic can’t quit by his own self. This man needs help to quit. His friends don’t mean him well either. He will get the help he needs and their family will be happy by God’s grace.
His wife should understand that quitting alcohol is not as easy as it sounds. She has to be patient with him and see this as her own cross. Her love for him will give her victory in the end. Chiamaka may have to go with him to his friends to tell them to help him.
