Alex, you are a classy guy... the way you responded to less than kind criticism. Your English is actually very good, especially your accent. I have heard many different pronunciations of "decal" -- it seems that Americans and Europeans tend to pronounce differently -- no surprise there.
Alex, That is an awesome kit!!!!! I totally agree with your theory for the Bigger Box, but as you placed some of the Bags in that empty compartment, and looked nice that way, I wonder why Revelle didn't do the same thing, they should watch your Review and stores all the parts like you have them in all three compartments, ok enough of that, I can't wait to see your updates on this awesome kit!! I hope your sister has a very nice Display area for it, I'm sure she is simply in awe with seeing this kit as we are seeing your review.
Hi Alex: First time on your channel. Loved the intro stuff you did on the shuttle during a launch. I also enjoyed the "outboxing" you did. That is such an awesome kit and getting a peek at the contents with some humor included was fun. Thanks man.
Hey Alex AWESOME REVIEW great to see this old classic 1/144 Revell Model being reissued!! I bought mine way back in 1987 & ur unboxing reminded me of building it all those years ago. I remember cutting up all those handrails for the Launch Tower & taking forever. One thing I noticed is that the decals were missing COLUMBIA and had ENDEAVOUR printed twice. I cant be certain but I couldve sworn we had COLUMBIA back in that 80's kit, I chose ATLANTIS but I remember ENDEAVOUR being the only shuttle decal missing as the kit was pre-ENDEAVOUR!! Anyway its probably unimportant trivial stuff but just thought Id point it out. Really enjoyed your review and please let us all here get an update on when you build it! Happy Modelling THANKS for sharing your passion with us around the world!!
The word decals could be said de-cals or dec-als, it all depends on where ones from, most British English speaking modelers say dec-als, and most American English speaking modelers say de-cals, both mean the same thing! As for the Space Shuttles launch facility, I've worked inside if it when we loaded the Magellan satellite on the shuttle back in 1988 and talk about its size and scope, when your on the causeway it looks decent sized but when your inside of it, its huge and your mind really doesn't comprehend that your working on a spaceship on its launch pad, also that model is very good representation but it doesn't show some of the finer details. I've always wanted that kit since I seen it in a toy store in Koln Germany back in 1985
Très jolie vidéo maintenant au boulot!!! Car y a de quoi faire ... A côté d'un fusée saturn 5 ça fait une jolie collection !! Bon courage pour ce très beau montage
Wow Alex, what a big box, I think it would have scared me away, I live in central Florida and watched most of the shuttle launches from my house, miss them for sure, Take care, Tom
I paid $50US for this kit about 15 years ago at a local flea market. The decals are different as it has both shuttles we lost. Still got it in my stash. Prices have gone crazy now.
I have bought this kit MANY MANY years ago... it was about 80 guilders then (about 35 Euro / $45). There were never those detail railings in the kit like the first parts you showed coming out of the box. There was a problem with the main construction unit, where there were 2 left panels... Revell had them replaced. I build it with the Moonraker Space Shuttle on the platform. Later I blew the whole thing up with fireworks while shooting it on a high speed video camera.
Better you than me my friend. As to the pronunciation of DEH KULL, that is very much a regional issue. In Canada and the Commonwealth, the UK, most of the sensible parts of Europe we say DEHKULL. In the US and France they pronounce it deecaalz. To my ear deecaaalz sounds very child like and I will wear my big boy pants and continue to pronounce it DEHKULLS. Enjoyed your video, your English is excellent. Cheers!
WoW, that kit looks HUGE!!, as big as a cereal packet and it's got some suprisingly nice detail there, looks good for a change in terms of aircraft Alex.
Nice intro. Footage is either from The Dream Is Alive or Space Odyssey, can't remember which. I saw then at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida on their IMAX screen. Great footage. Oh I so want one of those kits.
Great review! I built this kit back in 87, it's so large when finished, I opted for mounting mine to a base, and made a plexiglass cover for it, dusting it would be a nightmare! I lit mine, and detailed it extensively, over all, an enjoyable build. Also, may I say, for someone who's first language is not English, you've got nothing to worry about, your English is just fine, you say decal however you please, haters be damned!
thank you Jim! i actually started it! but then life got in the way and i had to stop... but this one will be finished! can you tell me how is the fit on the shuttle?
+AlexModeling the shuttle is the standard Revell 1/144 scale kit, the fit was better than the Airfix!! I had no problems, and I think I've built every iteration of the shuttle. I look forward to seeing your progress, if it's anything like what you've already done, it should be brilliant!!😊
Really appreciate you and your sharing this with us. I know that this is a old video, and I watch your videos all the time. I really enjoy them and I learn so much. But I've never seen this one. It's beautiful and only you my friend, could do it justice. And one more thing... Your English is great , you can say what ever you want, how you want. I'm American, and know I'm going to start saying , deco . dec-als , I sounds better , classic. Till the next time my friend. Stay safe and keep building.🇺🇸👍
I picked up 2 complete 1/144 shuttle with boosters kits for $52 off of Ebay recently so you should build this kit so we can see how it looks. I might build mine as the Challenger and Columbia since this month is the anniversary of the destruction of both Orbiters with Columbia's anniversary being earlier in the month and Challenger's anniversary coming up this Sunday.
Hi Alex, When I received my box from a germany store, all the compartments were full of parts. The decals and instructions were in the first place, in our case, empty place. I agree with Antony about the box, you are a "lucky guy"! rsrs Great Channel, lot of learning! Abraço dos seus seguidores do Brasil
I've always pronounced it "deck-als', not "dee-cals". At 64, I'm not changing it now. You're not alone. I went looking for the build video but didn't see one. I enjoy your posts, thanks. By the way, your English is WAY better that my Portuguese.
That is a awesome kit my friend and a great review . If you are going to tackle that much styrene you can say decal how ever you want to lol great vid buddy
That box is bigger than most peoples apartments. It would make a nice holiday home. Put wheels on it and it could be a caravan. Put wings on it and it becomes a big box with wings.
Alex my friend, I think your use of the English language is more than sufficient to get your meaning across. There are some native speakers in this country that do not speak their own language as well as you do. You say decal I say decal, who really cares. We all know exactly what you mean. So don't let the foolish put you off of communicating with your fans. By the way, I do not speak a word of Portuguese and that is my heritage.
Great kit review Alex must be one of the largest kits you can still you get hold of. Don't worry too much about people criticizing how you pronounce English, in fact you speak better English that some English people.
he's correct... it is "dee-kal" but hell I hear Canadians pronounce it wrong, I hear British pronounce it wrong and their excuse.... "we invented the language" and my answer to them "thank GOD you never patented it... lol... And you are right... the bigger box is to grab the customer but really its more about price vs. what the buyer thinks they are getting for that price. If its a big price it better to put it in a big box, that way it appears that the size equals price. Testors did this with their F-14 Tomcats in the 1980s. Anyway- love your videos reviews and builds keep up the great work.
I built this kit many years ago,, I guess when it was first released When finished it never looked as "busy" as the photo on the box. There just wasnt enough piping, structural bits in it. I tried adding my own, but in the end it just always looked pretty sparce
Dear Alex, your review is amazing, I am working of that kit, I will be happy to share with you when I finish my kit. wish you all the best Alex. BTW, very first edition of that kit had samé size box like 2014 edition😑
Alex, that was a great review! I have been searching for this kit for over 2 years with no luck. And now that Revell has been sold I wonder If I will ever have the chance to purchase it. If you ever decide to sell it instead of building it, please let me know my friend.
The way you said decals is fine Alex. If the person who tried to tell you "DEEECALS!" was the way to go I can only assume they were American. Both are correct. It's just down to where you come from when speaking the English language. There is nothing wrong with your english Alex. I only wish I could speak more than one language.
Excellent as always Alex :-) If I could speak another language as well as you speak English I would be a very happy man, truly. As others have said already you say decals however you like :-) I always get a smile on my face when I watch your videos :-) For reasons I wont bore you with that is on a par with a gift :-) Anyway, enough of that, I look forward to seeing this kit grow :-) Oh yes, old Airfix kits can be pretty bad, but the new mold kits they are bringing out now are a vast improvement and are well worth a look.Just make very sure they are the new molds :-) Sorry to go on for so long.
+Eric Gelinas Yes, indeed - the dee-cals pronunciation is a common 'Americanism', but no-one else says it as far as I'm aware. It's always been 'deckles' to me, and I'm English. I don't want to start a flame war, but it's our language, damn you - we let you Americans use it, but stop messing around with it, with your deecals, and aloominum, and soddering irons :D
This would be a sweet kit in 1/35 scale LOL... Thank You for the review, I have always wondered aboot this kit. Wish I had the money for this kit, has I am a space nut. A quick note aboot me: I am also a Ham Radio Operator, and I once talked to the guys aboard the IIS on my Ham Radio, when they were making a pas-over my location, talk aboot a RUSH!
DECK - ELS as a pronunciation is fine, just as DEE - CALS is. I have heard it both ways, it's not a big deal as I'm sure your already aware of. Still interested in this kit just in case : D

That sucks I would have loved to see you build it up. But as I say crap happens sorry to hear that the Kit was damaged so bad from the flood how many other Kit's did you loose in the flood
I fast forwarded to see what the instructions where like, and i see it's typichal Revell. They only name the parts, not the sprues they are on, and that is why i hate building Revell kits. :D This kit must be a real nightmare for someone like me, it feels like you have to spend 100 hours just to look for the diffrent parts. Did you finish it?
nop! started it but stoped... instructions are... stupid! the angles of fitting are not clear and you can make mistakes on building the towers and wich face to glue on the other and so on ...
Ohhhhhhhohhhhhhhhhhh............Alex all that lovely plastic...... must resist... must resist....." Big box".....must resist...89eros hmmmmm 750Nkr must resist.....
Building the launch tower is making my teeth hurt. I'm gonna have to pay those f**kers at Revell a little visit. After making this model, I'm doing the huge Revell Millennium Falcon, TIE Fighter, and X-Wing. I think I need to see a psychiatrist.
Alex, you are a classy guy... the way you responded to less than kind criticism. Your English is actually very good, especially your accent. I have heard many different pronunciations of "decal" -- it seems that Americans and Europeans tend to pronounce differently -- no surprise there.

i received this kit for my 11th birthday years ago. from what you have shown Revell has added some details to it since it came out the first time.
I built this about 15yrs ago and loved it. When I get the money again it will be mine.

Hello Alex, very nice kit to build, my brother has built this many years ago!
Must use LED to light then it will be perfect!
Nice greetings Manfred
I can understand you just fine so keep modeling and always with a smile my friend

You keep apologizing for your English, except that your English is very nice. No need for apologies.
you had it right. English teacher had it wrong. your English is fine. keep up the reviews. I like them.

Just a quick exchange of our call signs, and a be safe. I need to find where I have the video clip.
Wow, very cool my friend!!!
WigWagWorkshop awsome really!
DECK - ELS as a pronunciation is fine, just as DEE - CALS is. I have heard it both ways, it's not a big deal as I'm sure your already aware of. Still interested in this kit just in case : D
Just go with stickers..............
You speak better English than a lot of Americans and British people!
Thank you!
3rd box compartment for part sorting?
Wow you could make a kids playhouse with the box!!!
¡Muy interesante, amigo mío! disfrútalo!! Happy modeling, mate! :)
Gracias Tony!
Oh my!
That is really something else Alex.
It took this long to come to my recommended list and all I can say is wow!
What a kit. I never knew such a thing existed.
What I'd love to know is more about those Gemini kits.
In 1984 I was given the Revell 'History Makers' Gemini kit as a gift - it's still in its box and unassembled sitting in a storeroom cupboard since I put it there the day after my birthday.
Do you have any details on it as I have never found anything 'Gemini' searching the net during the pandemic?
Great review Alex, and btw your English is fine .. I often see English people write who don't get the difference between Their, There and They're. There are other people I know who write Drawer as Draw!! I guess we can blame spell checker for this?
I just got one of these. But mine, the launch tower is grey and the shuttle is white. So, less painting required. :-)
"It's deee-kals, not dekals..." lol! A very fun review. I have to get off my butt and have a closer look at my copy of this kit. Thanks for doing this video, Alex.
Hey TOM!! Nice seing you!:) Thanks for stoping by !!:)
ohh...I just got an idea for a lighting kit!
I know just what you were thinking my friend:) but then... i would not be able to sleep!:) eheheh
The fact that 1/3 of the box is empty really pisses me off! Thank You for making this video.
I think that you might still need a bigger condo when that's done buddy... Huge!!!
That is for sure!!!
Does this material take the pure liquid paint, or do you need some other product? What paint should I use?
Should be the same as any model paint. As far as I know they all use the same type of plastic.
Yes! Prime and Paint ... It shoulb be like other kits
Being a speaker of American English from birth, we even get a lot of spoken English wrong. English is impossible to master. You get your point across well. Do not worry too much about the details. Your English is fine.
+cwells97 thank you so much!

Did you assemble this model? If so, how did it turn out?
That sucks I would have loved to see you build it up. But as I say crap happens sorry to hear that the Kit was damaged so bad from the flood how many other Kit's did you loose in the flood
A lot of Eduard.. revell. Tamyia.. don t want to remeber that:)
AlexModeling how much did it cost you please answer
Don t need to say please! I always tey to answer... it costed me back then 80 euros
AlexModeling hey not trying to rember what happend but how for the space shuttel if you still have it please thank you 😁😁
I don t have it... damage on a flood!
How did you get to launch it
Holy shit. Must have.
10 years later has it been built ?
No, an accident toke It from me. Started it. But never finished It. Exactly, 10 years
*89 Euros!
You probably can't get it for much less than 500 Euros now, huh? Maybe 350 Euros if a seller feels generous?
Alex did you ever assemble this Kit
No. I started it then i stoped and i had a flood and that kit was damaged beiond repair

Bellissimo Kit , ma dopo montato ; dive lo metti ???
Nice review 👍👍👍👍
Is this kit still available ? Can't find it on the Revell website

Building the launch tower is making my teeth hurt. I'm gonna have to pay those f**kers at Revell a little visit. After making this model, I'm doing the huge Revell Millennium Falcon, TIE Fighter, and X-Wing. I think I need to see a psychiatrist.
i know i started it back then... some parts fit bad and instructiond are not very clear
+Just Me Good for you! Well done
Thangew very much! :)
I've now moved onto the booster rockets and launch pad. I should be okay, I saw my psychologist yesterday.

+Just Me I bought it to give it to her when i build it... and i opened it because i can and i wanted too..
It was challenger not enterprise and challenger exploded in 1986 not 1988 plus enterprise never to space it was a test bed for landings
Revel's quality cannot hope to match most of its competitors.
