    Hey Speed Academy! A friend of mine has the 9th gen SI with a Kraftwerks charger k24. He had a similar looking hood as this 8th gen and had the taller deck issue. What he did was he got hood spacers at the hinges and trimmed the inner structure where the charger fits. In the end, he had just enough room for the charger while keeping the sweet carbon hood. Not sure if it'll work for the 8th gen but it's worth looking into. As a fellow 8th gen SI owner, I can't wait to see the little Civic respectfully smoke the M3 on track! Good luck with both builds!

    Perhaps a “donor” hood with some functional vents is needed? Would be fun to put a small “ram air” scoop on the right side and then a reversed one over the supercharger. 2000s tuning style 😅

    Negative Nancy w/ info:
    That Ktuned dipstick is very prone to pushing out of position, it took them three revisions to finally put a retention spring on it. Highly recommend either getting a different brand or getting their v3 dipstick. Converting to a "blow through" style setup, eliminating the maf sensor will net much more power and will not restrict the size of the intake pipe, allowing the rotex to pull in more air, it will need to be tuned which you already are doing but it wont affect driveability. The selection for the lightened flywheel is almost a guarantee to have poor/jumpy throttle characteristics. If you do NOT put on a 3in exhaust you will have basically defeated the purpose of putting on that charger alone. Even N/A the K series heads breathe extremely well, anything smaller than 3in will drastically cut both hp and tq, staying with a 2.5in will not net a useable powerband.
    All that said still love the build! Keep at it guys

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  11 місяців тому +8

      Can you convert to a blow through with the FlashPro? I would assume that is more of a standalone ECU feature otherwise there would be a ton of people doing it?
      And worry not, we aren't that noobish, the exhaust on the car isnt staying.

      @@speedacademy Yes! there is an option the fuel section menu to select tune by MAP/Speed density.
      Wonderful, I'm sure youll be using vibrant! If budget allows, I'm curious to hear what the exhaust note would be if one of their ultra quiet resonators is placed inline as well.
      Lastly, not challenging your knowledge with this but converting from the returnless style fuel system to a return style can lower the injector duty cycle by 5-8%. Keep it simple, keep it fun fellas! Cheers!

      @@speedacademy Please get the retention spring for the oil dipstick, I had a k-swapped EK and it would always leak oil through the dipstick. I ended up changing to a black oem type r dipstick and I never leaked oil from there again. The k-tuned dipstick has a poor design and doesn't seal well without the spring.

    • @TassieLorenzo

      "anything smaller than 3in will drastically cut both hp and tq," How do 70mm (2.75") exhausts compare to 60mm (2.36"), 2.5"/65mm(2.55") and 3" for NA builds? Nobody ever seems to try 2.75", instead they just seem to compare 2.5" vs all the way up to 3".
      [I'm not suggesting it is a good idea for this 400hp motor, but off-the-shelf 70mm exhausts are available for a lot of Honda chassis, so it seems like it could be a convenient option for many people even on NA race car builds. Maybe 70mm already gets most of the benefit that would come from a 3" exhaust on an NA car?]
      Not so fun fact: the Subaru STi, FK8 Type R, Evos etc all have 60mm exhausts as stock to make them quiet to comply with strict Japanese noise regulations, even though most European and Korean four cylinder turbo sport compacts like the Elantra N, GTI, Megane RS etc have 65mm exhausts as stock. 😐
      (Also availability of aftermarket metric exhaust parts for custom fabrication -- be it 60mm, 65mm, 70mm, 80mm etc -- seems horrendously poor, even though all Japanese and European cars all use metric exhausts as OEM. Finding metric flexi-joints, metric bends, metric cat converters to join into a stock system seems very tricky (although 2-3/8" is very close to 60mm with respect to OEM Honda exhausts). It's a pet peeve of mine when people say a car has a "stock 2.5" exhaust" (i.e., 63.5mm) when it's actually either 60mm or 65mm and they haven't actually measured it... But I digress!)

    • @uknterror508
      @uknterror508 11 місяців тому +1

      there have been a very select few that have opted for the 2 3/4 exhaust for a N/A K series and opted to report the results. On a completely stock setup the most difference between that and a full 3in was 12tq and 18hp (at sea level) using a hub dyno. Cost is always the main consideration, either the cost is drastically different between the two sizes or its $50-$100 more for the 3in. If this was a N/A b series it would be a different story
      Unfortunately a lot of the 70mm off the shelf units available are measuring the outside diameter of the pipe not the inside, which is generally 2.5in. Some brands do not specify which measurements they are advertising and most people who say they have a 2.5in do fact have an exhaust that has a 2.75in outside diameter, hard to tell. @@TassieLorenzo

    Once you cut that clearance hole for the blower, you can probably find or make a small fiberglass hump, similar to an eagle talon, and then paint match it to the body. To the untrained eye, it might look OEM. Alsooo, you could maybe cut a hole above that filter and install a paint matched naca duct. I think the result of those two would look pretty sweet.

    I know Hasport has engine mounts that have different height settings to lower the K24 in the engine bay just for that problem of clearance. You can get the engine to sit much lower than stock. Very nice build guys. I've got a K24z that I'm not sure what I'm going to do with yet.

    Can you drop the entire motor at the mounting points? K24 is about 20mm taller-even splitting the difference could help.

    @speedacademy when you did the fuel pump, did you run a relay and power directly to the battery? I add sirimoto flex fuel kit and did gain much until I ran 12 g through a relay to the battery. I gained 20% lower duty cycle from this. Stock power wire is like 16-18g.

    Stage 1 wouldve held the kraftwerks kit. I had a oem replacement clutch with my kraftwerks making 420whp,
    Also theres a RRC FD2 Type R oil pump which has the correct deeper pick up for the oil pan

    That cooling blue hose at the back of engine looks fairly restrictive with the kink. Maybe it changes with pressure and fills out but might be worth looking into if it encounters cooling issues.
