I am a new rider at 50 and ride with my husband and two young 20s sons. We all got our motorcycles last year. Your video is wonderful. This is exactly how we communicate while riding together. My guys all coach me while riding, cause they're looking out for Mom. I am by far the most nervous, so it was nice heading Nikki sound just like I feel. Thanks for letting me know I wasn't the only one scared at the beginning. Keep up the great work! Your relationship sounds lovely too!
Thank you very much Nikki for putting yourself out there for the world to see when you are 'vulnerable' as a new rider (still learning and still making beginner errors). It takes a lot of courage to let people sit in their comfort at home and 'judge' your performance when you are still nervous or unsure of yourself... I found it inspiring. I am a brand new rider at 34yr and just bought my first bike but even though I have a license I have not driven on the road yet and I am too scared to ride my bike home from the dealer when it is finally ready (yeah I am looking at you Harley - it's already been a month, dragging your feet much!?) I don't have someone to ride with me like you have but watching this has shown me your courage and I feel more confident about not being scared for my first ever ride. Thank you again
First time rider here...I bought a used rebel 500 (2020) a couple weeks ago and have been commuting to work (20 mins) whenever possible! It's so much fun! First time I rode the bike, I was sketched out going 30 mph. Second day I got used to the feeling and then rode on the freeway (not that busy during my commute time). That sketched me out but I just clamped my legs to the tank whenever the wind got to be a little too much and that helped a lot. Now I find myself taking the bike out to do errands whenever possible, it is SO FREEING!
Slow speed slalom is one of 6 test you have to pass when you take your motorcycle licence in Germany. The other 5 are 1. Emergency breaking with 50 kmh 2. High speed slalom (with 30kmh) 3. Stop an Go with changing leg. 4. Breaking and evade an obstacle (50 kmh) 5. Same as 4 but without breaking. Just pulling the clutch Additional to the 6 test you have to ride around the city and on the highway.
I love the duo videos for a lot of reasons. For me they help with the anxiety part of learning more than the fundamentals but that's beneficial in its own way. I can visually see the mistakes and learning process and compare it to my own. The cute couple banter is nice as well. Hope you two enjoy making them so they can keep happening.
My husband drives a bike since very long time, I 'm driving since a few months. I have the same thing to say. My husband is priceless and very valuable too. We have intercom and drive together. He always try to protect us too. When a car comes behind he protects the lane for me. We constantly are talking and protecting each other. Love this video 👍. Take care 😊
“If they hit me I’m fine with it I got life insurance as long as they don’t hit you” 🥺 “I think you’re just as valuable if not more” 🥺 You guys are so cute! Love your videos!
I learned 😌 how to ride on the road and freeway from u...and motojitsu....uve helped me alot!!...thank u...got a sport bike...CBR 1000...a year ago...and been riding from ur teachings......1
This was the most realistic example of what happens when you first start riding. From short moments of over thinking, with pockets of “I got this” to; I need to work on this thing later. Thanks for makin this video. My work is 10min away and I can’t wait to start the commute!
As a newer rider myself, who also rides with my significant other, it is really neat to see Nikki riding and watch the skills from your viewpoint. I really appreciate being able to watch another new rider and listen to the helpful suggestions you are making. We ride with a headset and then my boyfriend critiques as we go. Thank you for all of the great information! (Especially for u-turns and counterbalancing!!!)
Absolutly love the way you coach her with confidence whem I ride with new or newer riders I tell them same thing im with you if you still or what ever im here your good its so easy to spead on a bike
"Presenting yourself" at intersections, i learned from your videos. I am 50, and just got another bike, after 15 yrs of not riding, and, neverbhad anyone show me or dorect me on safety, or riding. I basically just bought a bike in my mid 20s, and figured it out. I am learning everyday, and absorbing as much as i can, and your videos are a daily watch for me. The vids of you and your wife are a lot of fun, juat hearing you two i teract, and also a good tutorial, as, new riders can listen to ur instruction, while l, seeing what you see, .tha ks for your effort and you 2 stay safe
my girlfriend just started riding her own bike with me. your couples vlogs reminds us of us when we watch y'all. I'm wondering if there are other couples that enjoy your content same as we do.
merino wool base layer*. Wicks the sweat away and breathes for your skin so you don't get chafed, I've gone 6 hours *without stopping* because my ride is so comfortable I lose track of time and pile on the miles. Before I got the base layer I was stopping every 15-20 miles for a walk around, stretch and a drink, the worst part was my legs were soaked in sweat, clammy and cramping. Also it's an interference for the abrasion layer (kevlars/leathers/denims/whatever) so they don't pick up the stink. *Don't get cotton base layers, they don't wick anything away, they just get soaking wet and make your ride miserable. Yes, merino wool is expensive but it is *totally worth it*.
That's a beautiful area. Planning on getting myself a bike in the future. Gonna have to learn to pack light as I intend to do a lot of commuting to and from work on it.
I ride these roads frequently. It is cool to see and hear the fine-tuning techniques on this ride. My cycle is my main vehicle for commuting and errands. Also for pleasure trips.
Nice video! I'm just an old lady and no expert but a couple of thoughts as a commuter. Saddlebags. I hate having anything on my back. Balanced on each side. Also helps with upper torso fatigue. The other thing, and Dan is the expert so he might comment, is on the stopping and acceleration. The bike comes to a long, I call them landings and they take practice, so that both breaks are applied and only your left foot is on the pavement. Your right foot is on the rear brake. A parking lot skill. If you bring down the right foot you tend to overuse the front break and dip the forks, making for a bounce. I saw a video to practice this is by beginning to stop earlier/longer. It also gives you more downshifting time. It helped me. It also helps on the acceleration as you apply throttle/friction point as you slowly release the rear brake so your left foot just comes up. No paddling off with either foot. So parking lot practice stopping using both breaks so you land gracefully on the left foot only. And acceleration practice so the bike takes off slow and smooth and moves off the mark through friction zone and a gentle release of the rear brake. This is also a great skill to have when you land but cannot see at an intersection. The ability to slowly move up without paddling. It's all kinda wrapped in the same skillset.
That was nice, felt extremely comfortable watching this video, especially with family members learning first time ride to work, lovely lesson, and sweet riding motorcycles... Well done family 🙏, great surpport, great feeling... Thank you again, Dan-Dan..
Love these videos with Nicky and not in a pervy way or anything. I bought this same exact bike last week as my first bike and any videos with the Rebel have been so hopeful. It’s good to have Nicky on the videos because it’s really helpful to have a beginners perspective on all this.
Loved watching this video! I wish my husband rode so he could help me like you helped your wife. Guess it will be the other way around for us haha! I seriously need a you to ride with me though! I am so scared to actually get going! Just got my bike street ready today so it's go time!
When you switched lanes to the right @21:00 that silver van turned right and the black van was pulling out at the same time! Super dangerous spot. Great videos!
Woman Biker here in UK. Is the backpack for Nikki’s mic/camera gear maybe? I’m a recent convert to saddlebags from a backpack. And yes, I watched this cos could see a female was your thumbnail! Thank you Dan for great voiceover and simple, calm advice. Me and my boyfriend ride together and he’s the new rider!
For the pant stink - gotta get these dissolvable scent beads to throw into the washer machine with the detergent. Used that for years for all my yardwork clothing.
Dan, a bit disappointed that you haven’t bought Nikki a ‘because I love you’ gift of a rokform mount and she’s using a ram. Otherwise great video (even with the disconcerting wide angle view) I can sympathise with Nikki in the nervous little errors as my riding distances get greater
Hey guys. Im a beginner same as ...travelling with my love one ..having intercom is brilliant we can comunnicate all the way. It is massive help and makes stress down.. big thumbs up for u ...love is not only in house but also on the wheels... x
I think she might love a throttle rest for her bike - I LOVE mine for longer distances!! She mentions cruise control - and Mother’s Day is approaching 😉 Love your videos - thank you!!
Use TIDE detergent and a handwash washer cycle to wash your jeans, it is expensive but really light on clothes. Go with the ticket on you pants, it say how to wash it, dry it, and what to use.
Tell her good job she rides really good for beginner and you teach re all well like how your consrintly telling her things cause thats how you have to ride constantly thinking and looking I tell people I ride like everyone is out to get me im the target so always be prepaired but your great teaching her good job bro keep it up
I was like, what brand helmet is that. Ha - that's funny. Totally agree on the moving from last position to lane position - you have a better chance of drivers remembering you are there when they pass you, and for those drivers sitting at intersections seeing you.
Tired yes, but I've been up for 12 hours now... Coffee sounds good! on a side note, I took the scooter down to where the beginner basic handling & skills test is done this morning. and yes I was right, it is much more difficult when you have a centrifugal clutch driven off the CVT (and not the engine) than when you have a real clutch! (and surprisingly nobody cared, I must have looked like a noob that wanted to practice, rather than some clown that was just playing for the hell of it!
Ima be real, I'm itching to ride my bike to work but the traffic on the way back home just looks too brutal for a bike and as a new rider its a bit intimidating
Random, but I love the way the S has been removed from SHOE. I can't get over what Americans consider "traffic" It's so light with so much room... It's like rush hour traffic 30 years ago when I was living in the country surrounded by nothing but farms! people in cars don't even look for other cars before changing lanes. if they did there would never be any kind of traffic accident at all (and in NZ we have about 10 times the density of traffic at the best of times. it's actually very hard to not be in someone's blind spot as all of the vehicles are so close together!)
You buy new pants the smell never comes out tide pods with oxy helps alot but ya I have icon pants actually 2nd or more pair lol live in fl so ya eventually they are beyond recovery and bite bullet and replace or just stink lol luckly my gloves were oit before they stink cause when they start stinking its over toss them go through avarage a pair a year atleast
I ride the 🏍️ in weekends with my husband and in the week to go to work in heavy traffic 48km to go and 48km return in heavy traffic. Doing roads of 30km/h. 50km/h. 70km/h and 90km/h.
96 km a day for work and in weekends we do some trips with various km, s it depends which trip we choose on "routeyou" but mostly +/- each trip up to 5 hours or 200+ km's. Mostly small roads with many curves the trip itself and to go to the beginning point highways if possible or desirable. For me as beginner ( 3 months) it is priceless as practice. Of course we stop to make pictures and if we are tired in the middle of a trip we stop and go home. Always in mind we have to travel home at the finish of the road trip. We have to be fit to do that. 😊
@@twowheelseatingmeals-motoj8080 no indeed just driving since the end of July '20. Road to work is not a big deal for cornering practice so it is really necessary to practice in the weekend for the smaller roads with many turns, twisties, stop, go, parents on bikes and little children on bikes. Skateboarding people, people doing all kind of stuff when they are walking/sightseeing / taking pictures. Small roads with gravel/mudd/ horses /... I still find myself a beginner compared with my husband (20 years motorcycle experience) and i don't want to overestimate myself. Of course you can have starters who only ride on Sunday's around the church (which if fine also) that part I already passed but still so much to learn. Watching videos and now I have bought Total control, writer Lee Parks. Chapter 1 traction, great book. 😀. Hope to become a better driver every day so practice, practice!
daily commuting will make you a bette rider because you're using your skills on a daily basis,. instead of just on weekends. The more time you spend on the saddle, the better you will get, especially with situational awareness skills.
@@joemann7971 yeah i was already a defensive driver but being on a bike made me even more weary. Have already avoided 6 potential accidents so far. Space cushion is key, swerving is like last option for me.
@@ZeroFallout1 It's important and necessary to be weary on a bike. Dropping your guard at the wrong time can result in an accident. I got involved in a minor rear end collision after my bike got stuck in second gear and thr car behind me just plowed into me. It was frustrating being without my bike for almost two months due to supply issues due to the pandemic. Now, I ensure my bike is in first every time I stop. I know how to take off quickly, but it doesn't help when the bike is stuck on the wrong gear. I was a little paranoid after I got my bike back, but I keep my distance, with plenty of space cushion. I've gotten comfortable again on the bike. Even a small accident can be frustrating.
@@joemann7971 My biggest fear is getting rear ended it intersection. Always looking at mirror at stops making sure people slowing down. I'm always positon to escape tho. Good thing I got 2 bikes but knock on wood no accident in my future.
Does it matter what one position leads? I never know.. because I am the newbie I am often in front like you did here and I never know where I am suppose to be..
swee-chuan khoo Did you get a Rebel 250 or 300? I just got my rebel 300 with abs and today I rode it up and down my street for the 1st time. I ordered guard rails to protect the engine in case I drop it.
@@craftsbypwilli2664 500. Honda only bring this model to my country. Only ABS. My first bike Loving it. Still riding around the neighborhood to build the confidence. Will do parking lot practice in the weekend
swee-chuan khoo Oh nice, I’ll probably upgrade to a 500 once I get super comfortable on the 300. Yeah, I’ll also be doing some parking lot practice this week too. Good luck and happy riding. Are you in Malaysia? Been there some 4 or 5 years ago. Beautiful
@@craftsbypwilli2664 yes, i am in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. I am glad you enjoyed your time in Malaysia. Come back soon happy riding to you too. Let's get better and be good at riding together.
I'm from Europe too and was wondering too. I wave at motorcycling cops because they are on a motorcycle but the normal cops we don't wave. Here they should react weird if we would wave. Would be nicer though and polite.
*How to unstink your pants. (And ya boots.) 🤭 Turn inside out. Open up..whatever, hose and leave out for as long as it takes , (1day/week?) or you remember they're out there. ... A month? 3? When the gear your in, now needs an unstnking... 😯😄 Cheers from Lockdown. Melbourne, Australia.
DDFM, your channel and countless videos have been very useful as I’m pursuing a motorcycle license in my country. I’m puzzled why your girlfriend would have the 3 letter word on her helmet which might give a negative impression for female motorcyclists being loose in character. Perhaps your girlfriend might want to remove all letters from her helmet? Cheers

Trick for getting odor out of pants without washing them is throw them in the freezer over night. The cold neutralized the smell.

I ride every day 50 miles round trip
From Long Beach ca to Anaheim on a drz400
@@kimbee2604 Those ain’t no rookie numbers! Nice!
I feel like my daily commuting has made me a much better rider.
Yeah, started riding this year and daily commute help me improve quickly. Went from 600cc to 1300 cc in 1 season.
daily commuting will make you a bette rider because you're using your skills on a daily basis,. instead of just on weekends.
You should still watch out for the dummy's that will and do turn left from the right hand lane!
I was just thinking what happen to the lady with the new rebel? I just got mine few days ago and I want to see that she is learning.
swee-chuan khoo Did you get a Rebel 250 or 300? I just got my rebel 300 with abs and today I rode it up and down my street for the 1st time. I ordered guard rails to protect the engine in case I drop it.
@@craftsbypwilli2664 500. Honda only bring this model to my country. Only ABS. My first bike
Loving it.
Come back soon
happy riding to you too. Let's get better and be good at riding together.
swee-chuan khoo Yes, I slipped & fell down the stairs at Batu Cave, haha. Enjoy your riding.
Did she witeout the S and the final i of shoei to read :"hoe" lmao, so funny.
I am just seeing this video now and I saw that too with her helmet LOL 12:05
buy a bigger size kevlar and wear a skinny joggers pants underneath. Nikki will love it.
That is a good idea and so we can wash joggers. 👌 Thank you for the idea.
About how long ago go was this? Just curious as I'm up in NW Phoenix and just like to see how the ride compares.
why you wave at the cops, i am from europe i dont know if its a tradition in USA :))
Its mostly to just be polite.
I'm from Europe too and was wondering too. I wave at motorcycling cops because they are on a motorcycle but the normal cops we don't wave. Here they should react weird if we would wave. Would be nicer though and polite.
2:42 her helmet lmaoo
Nice little pair of pears.
*How to unstink your pants. (And ya boots.) 🤭
Turn inside out. Open up..whatever, hose and leave out for as long as it takes , (1day/week?) or you remember they're out there. ...
A month? 3? When the gear your in, now needs an unstnking... 😯😄
Cheers from Lockdown.
Cheers
I wish I lived in Arizona. I love Texas because I’m a Texan... I love Arizona gun laws they are the best state for gun owners. The only thing I don’t like about Arizona is the lack of water to Fish in...
