Great video for my application. I installed my MerMonitor on a 1968 StarCraft Caravel that I refurbished. Then realized that the Mercury GPS units are crazy expensive for my needs and found very little in the way of help on the Mercury website or when I called their technical service department. (They really want you to take it to an authorized Mercury dealer/service location - but I haven't found one near me who is familiar with the MercMonitor.) I didn't find the exact GPS receiver you mentioned but did find another very similar from the same manufacturer. I also had to enable GPS on my MercMonitor - something I had already disabled. I also wired it directly through the 12/5v transformer to my positive buss rather than adding a GPS specific switch to power it - taking the chance that the GPS doesn't run my battery down while not in use. Fingers crossed on that one...Anyway, thanks again. My next step will be a trim monitor. If you've done that, too, please let me know how. :)

Great information, thank you for making this video! I have a Hummimbird GPS puck mounted on a boat that was going to be orphaned because of a change to a new Lowrance sonar unit, and I will investigate what it takes to get it wired and working to a MercMonitor gauge as well. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of info on the web in general about Mercury products, so, a "dark web" of knowldge share like this has to be created.

Happy to help! I agree, not enough information on merc products out there! Best of luck with your project.

@@justinsgarage4751 One question - does your "ECO" function now work with that gauge as well? Merc has very sketchy info in the manual , it only lists a "Level 1" gauge as being a gateway for 8 different functions, but not fuel flow, you need a $500+ more expensive "Level 2 - Smart tow" gauge to get the fuel flow info onto the NMEA network, but I wonder if it works within the gauge.

@@Internutt2023 to be honest, I’m not quite sure. I’ll be firing the boat up in the next month or so and hopefully will be able to answer that question then. I feel like it was working last season but my memory could be failing me.

Thanks for the video not much out there on the MercMonitor. Do you have the part number on the actual 14 pin harness that plugs into the back of the gauge?

    Nice video Bro.
I’m trying to Install a smart craft device on my 2001 Mercury for my trophy boat.
When I open the motor cover I see a wiring harness that says smart craft with a cap.
Also see a tan and purple wire capped. There’s another clip of six wires that says smart craft. Unfortunately no one seems to know the type of device I need. I called the dealer and they say my engine is an older model 2001. Supposedly only from 2002 and up the devise works.
I told them then why my engine has all the plugs with part number. They had no answer. I end up buying one from eBay sc1000 small 2”x2” square and today I plug it the the larger plug then it lid with fuel gallons , fule range with rpm but didn’t seem
To work. I noticed the booklet says 2004 also the device wiring harness had a purple with tan wires with. 3 wires plug capped.
The main harness from my engine did fit to the device clip but the 6 wire clip from my engine had no place to connect. I’m assuming the 6 wire clip from my engine is the main one that reads the rest of the options. The main thing for me is water pressure and temperature of engine.
It’s like going to the sea blind folded.
It beeb last time continuously which meant over heading. After 2 mins it reset it self and works perfect.
Any information would be truly appreciated Bro. Thanks

Hey man, I’m really not sure. My engine has a smart craft plug under the hood as well, my theory is that this particular plug is to connect another engines CPU if your boat has more then one engine. I remember reading online that the first year of Mercury engines that are compatible with smart craft gauges is 2006 or 2007. I’m wondering if you need to connect the gauge you purchased to the outlet from your throttle control, if you have that.
The mercury EFI’s typically have a series of data wires going from the throttle control back to the engine, that is relaying information back to the engine computer. That’s why it’s important to have a throttle control the has a smart craft output. That is my best guess but I really don’t know.
      I wish you the best.

What size hole did you have to drill?
