LG XBOOM Go PL2 review | vs Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2, LG PK3, Anker Soundcore 2, Tronsmart T6 Mini

- The LG XBOOM Go PL2 is the smallest and least expensive offering in LG’s latest trio of speakers. I’ll be looking at its larger PL5 and PL7 siblings separately.
All three speakers share the same design and they all have their audio tuned by Meridian like their predecessors, the PK series I looked at last year.
This is one of the smallest speakers I’ve tested, but still has 10 hours of battery life, a Sound Boost mode, USB-C charging, stereo pairing with another PL2 speaker and an IPX5 water resistance rating.
I’ll be running through its features before comparing how it sounds to a few of its rivals: the hugely popular Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 which is only a little more expensive, the budget Tronsmart T6 Mini, last year’s LG XBOOM Go PK3 and the Anker Soundcore 2. The Ultimate Ears and Tronsmart have a similar design but are slightly bigger; the PK3 is significantly bigger but is often reduced to the same price, and the Soundcore 2 is a very popular compact speaker slightly cheaper than the PL2’s retail price of around £50 or $50.

Hi
I love your reviews
I love music
I am a bass head
What is is the best Bluetooth speaker for balanced sound with the best bass for tronsmart and Anker ...doesn't have to be one in the video. Would love your opinion . 😊
Sorry missed this - UA-cam doesn't always show replies to posts! Thank you anyway. The Anker Motion+ is a safe bet - depending on how much you can get it for. The Tronsmart Force is a good budget option - as are the LG range if they're on promotion.
Hello, I liked a lot your reivew. I bought this product some days ago but I still could not make the AUX IN port work.
Do you know if there is any 'trick' to make it work?
@@testseven6663 Thanks! You should just be able to plug the 3.5mm cable in and it should work. Check the Bluetooth light goes off. If doesn't remove the plug and reconnect it. I did have trouble with one cable - so perhaps try another cable and perhaps also another device too to rule out a problem with the cable and the device's 3.5mm output.
@@TheTechnologyMan Thank you. It worked after several attempts. xD
BT light didn't what to stop blinking no matter how many times I pushed to 'turn BT off'. But it seems the cable had to be connected when blinking to made the light stop, then it turns to the "LINE IN" mode.
Live for these types of reviews! Bravo on the format
Great - thanks Mustapha Riaz!
Fantastic review. I was looking for a high quality review but there’s almost none for this speaker. You convinced me. Bravo sir
Thanks you gatoking! I'd be interested to hear what you think of it.
💯/ second and third this 👍🏽
Thanks for another meticulously prepared and informative review.
Through Sennheiser px100s the UE Wonderboom 2 sounded more expressive than the LG. The ones which followed sounded slightly hollow. I look forward to more reviews and really appreciate information on battery life as it's something that's likely to decrease with use.
Thank you Master Ji - really glad you liked the video and interesting to hear your thoughts.
Excellent and comprehensive review. Seems to be a great choice for travel.
Thank you Bill Paine. Yes would be a great travel speaker - now we're allowed to travel again!
Perfect review! I like the music used for the test and its name called "You Get All of Me".
Thank you Tsin Min and I'm glad you liked the music!
Very comprehensive information and a joy to watch. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Spot on review format 👌🏻
Thank you Richard Inglis!
I have the PL2 and it's amazing speaker ! I am very happy with it.
Great!
I getting pl7 delivered tomorrow. Looking forward to your review. I noticed all reviews are paid type videos but I think the sound and design are great. I wasn't into last years LG ones. I do wish pl7 come with a bag case. Hopefully someone else agrees and makes one down the line.
The little PL2 would also benefit from a small sleeve or case. I'm sure you'll enjoy the PL7 - I'm enjoying it so far. Let us know what you think of it!
wow your reviews are qualityyyyy subed
Thank you Manuel Light!
Thanks to your reviews I updated my LG pk7 (worried about the low volume that brings as default) and I have no regrets in selling my bose revolve plus in exchange of the lg pk7 at a tremendous disccount at 100 dollars.. The bass in bose revolve is a little bit higher but man, the mids and highs of the pk7 area unbeatable plus the stereo separation.
Thanks Raúl Peralta - really glad I could help! And that's great that you're happy with the PK7 - it is a nice speaker.
Thanks to that review I have ordered two pl2 to use both od them them paired together.
Great I hope you enjoy them!
Really helpful. Thank you for this
Really glad it helped - thanks Carlos Nascimento!
thank you for this review
No problem - thank you decent puppet!
Nice and detailed review 👍👍
Thank you Dave Sora!
Very nicely done review.
Thank you very much Ceel!
great review. many thanks
Thank you jj9k - glad you like it!
Quality review, thank you
No problem thank you Trần Kế Hoàng Nam!
Wonderboom sounds the best of all of them 🔥🔥🔥
The Wonderboom is still a very decent speaker!
No it doesn't
Very nice review
Thank you Sebastian Romero!
Its € 20,- for sale now in the Netherlands! Great deal. Gonna try the stereo pairing
Wow great price!
@@TheTechnologyMan Bought mine LG PL2 (light blue color) for 14.9 euros in Greece last couple of weeks. Amazing bargain at that price, while, for example, at the same time JBL Go 3 costs 34.9 euros.
Really nice and thorough review, man! Which one do you consider louder? Soundcore 2 or the little Xboom PL2?
Great glad it helped! Remember them being pretty close but don't have them to hand.
Great video. Only tronsmart had a punch, even though it was a bit muffled.
Thank you Ian Ashlon! Yes the Tronsmarts tend to have decent bass - but it overpowers the mids somewhat.
love this
😊
Great review, and the sound tests are okay.
More room treatment might have helped, at least curtains on the wall, a towel surrounding the speaker (without touching it) but only covering the table so as to kill the sound reflecting off of those surfaces, whatever works best for you.
Despite the way you did the test, the UE sounds damn good (typical of the brand), the Anker sounded very bandpassed and boxy (as I expect from that brand), and that Tronwhatever was also awful. The LG speakers are pretty good, this gives me a very rough idea of what to expect from a PK5. I'm looking for something good with stereo sound and 3.5mm input and the LG looks to be what I am looking for. Not that smaller PK3 you tested, at least the PK5, maybe even the PK7.
I still use the larger PL7 a fair bit and it's a decent speaker!
@@TheTechnologyMan after testing out an LG P7 (apparently the successor to the PN7 which succeeds the PK7), the speaker is not suitable for electronic music, those techno kick drums will absolutely kill the speaker, going to have to return it. P5 likely won't be any better.
I've got an XG300 from Sony enroute, hopefully that should be adequate.
edit: oh shoot, it was an XG500. Used and slightly mutilated, but fully functional, lol
The Sony can handle anything I throw at it, but is damn huge, too.
I also finally got to hear a PL speaker in store. Comparison vids of the PL and PN series convinced me that I won't like it, and the store demo confirmed that (most of the LG speaker demos in local stores are faulty or being left shut off, so I finally found a working one).
Damn, I'm actually missing the P7's jingles now, lol, they sound so dang good.
OMG ! UE still the best, sound so impressive
The UE is still a nice speaker!
btw when will the review for the pl5 come out? :) would be the first good one
Thanks Manuel Light for the prompt! I'm hoping to get the PL5 and PL7 out soon. Hopefully this month 🤞.
Lovely review and if honest i prefer the Anker Soundcore 2, though unfortunately mine had an accident with my car tyre it didn't end well :(
Thank you Mart! That does sound unfortunate!
RIP soundcore 2 ......................anyway buy dunlop winter tires
Great review, second the comment - no other comprehensive review exists ! Question- from an iOS user perspective, how would I update the firmware? Your review suggests this option is only open to android users.
Thank you Abu Sayad! Yes no iOS app - you'd need to borrow a friend's Android phone - but only if there is a worthwhile firmware update!
Nods, only PL5 and PL7 were included in the iOS version
Dear Technology Man,
I really like the Wonderboom 2 as I’m looking for a good sounding speaker I could use indoors as well as outdoor (I like to hike and bike or sit outside). You’re comparison helped me a lot. But I wanted to know how it compares against something like the Tribit Stormbox (Xboom) as both are somewhat 360 degree speakers right, or the JBL flip 4 which is also quite nice. Which one would you consider the better one in terms of overall sound quality (I’m not so much of a basshead, don’t like hardcore/hardstyle music but I do like a warm and punchy bass). Would you please help me out.
I have the Stormbox and Stormbox Pro - but haven't done a full review on them yet sorry! Typically Tribit tend to to deliver very good clarity for the price.
@@TheTechnologyMan please let me know in which way the stormbox or wonderboom 2 is better in overall sound (highs, mids, lows, bass), would love to have your opinion on the matter.
Stay safe man!
And you!
Hi, hope you can help. I recently bought one of the above small LG XBOOM speaker. It worked fine for the first month, but now it seems to be skipping or missing words from a sentence when I'm watching something online. This issue is not happening on what ever I'm watching without the speakers , any ideas ??? really frustrating Appreciate any advise
Sounds like a Bluetooth issue. I'd try disconnecting and "forgetting" device then try reconnecting. Also try another device with the speaker to see if you still get the same issue.
Good Reviews
Thank you - much appreciated!
Hey man! Remember me? 😁
Do you have any idea if the XBoom Go app is compatible with the LG XBOOM GO PN1?
I’m in need of a small speaker, planning to grab another LG , LG PN1
Sorry I've not tested the PN1.
I like my Anker Soundcore 2 a lot, especially for the price, but recently the volume has been a moody. Makes sense though because for a year or so it was the office speaker, playing music for more than 8 hours 5 days a week. I'll be replacing it with an Xboom PK 5. Hope that goes well.
I like the PK5 - should be a noticeable upgrade.
is the pl2 loud enough to fill a classroom (e.g. for presentations etc.) ?
Not really ideal - I'd go for something a little louder.
I use it at picnics when I travel in my RV. Small size but loud. Until I met the dindinmodern speaker. I really like it and deserves my recommendation.
It's a neat little speaker - I'm glad you're enjoying it!
I just bought this today but I will be returning it. I need a loudspeaker and a useful microphone device. Whilst this sounds excellent and i have no issues with its quality of sound, its absolutely fantastic, clear, and loud but when using it as a speakerphone I give it zero marks. No one can hear me, and the voice on the receiver end breaks all the time. so back it goes because I have no other use for it. I do not listen to music on the go.
I did try and highlight the issue with the microphone - it's not great on this speaker.
My pl2 stopped charging completely and it's only 2weeks old. What could be the problem?
I'd try an alternative cable and charger. If that fails I'd take it back.
I got the LG XBpoom pl2 I like it alot.
Can I use Aux to connect devices that aren't bluetooth? If yes how ?
Thanks for replies.
Yes just use a 3.5mm audio cable - you can get them for a few pounds on Amazon.
Connect the cable to speaker when it's on, it changes to Aux itself, then connect the other end to the source and play it, that's all
Does this support "LG wireless Sound sync"? Or only bluetooth?
Just Bluetooth and wired.
Which sounds better between the wonderboom 2 and pk3? Please
The PK3 is a fair bit bigger - it probably has a little more clarity but the Wonderboom 2 sounds good too and with a surprising amount of bass for its size.
Bought today on sale it’s pretty decent
Nice one!
is PL2 has stereo (2 speakers L & R) or mono (1 speaker)?
No it's a single driver. You can pair two for stereo ...
Justo a driver and a passive radiator next to it, giving 5 watts
Lg pl2 can stereo mode in 2 speakers?
Yes it can ...
Today i bought very nice
Great I hope you like it!
Wonderboom 2 💗
The Wonderboom is a nice little speaker!
Does it have a microphone?
Yes as covered in the review.
Just bought 2 of them brand new in a store for 40 US (20 per speaker) Was not a bad deal...
Nice price!
Wonderboom is thé wonderfull
It's a nice little speaker!
Unbelievable PL2 having more bass than soundcore 2
Not a huge amount in it IRL - it's more noticeable with the Wonderboom 2.
Should I get the PL2 or the Wonderboom 3? Both of them are the same price here. I'm looking for better bass and longer battery life.
Sorry not yet tested the Wonderboom 3.
I just bought this and it can't sync to video in bluetooth mode. LG is negligent to even sell this if it can't sync to video. It also has pretty low power output...very disappointed.
What device are you trying to sync to?
@@TheTechnologyMan A laptop.
👌👌👌👌👌❤️
Thanks!
Lg sounds best to me or anker
It's a tidy little speaker!
We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.
Nice!
Pk series has better design than Pl series to me. It looks like a big pill and the hole layout is annoying to look at.
I don't mind it - but do like the PK3 design too. I think the PK series is still available.
The true succesor of PK series is PN series but seems they descontinued the small model.
Wonderboom is the best but not "2x more expensive" better. Unless you plan on throwing it on the pool!
Yes agree!
Can I put this speaker next to me and take shower?
It's IPX5 - so I wouldn't have it in the shower - but if it's nearby and gets a few drops of water on it should be ok.
@@TheTechnologyMan Thank you so much, I'll keep using it a bit far from me while taking shower. By the way, could you please tell me what is the best mini speaker for bass sound?
PL2 is weak shit. Get the 7
The PL7 is pretty nice - will hopefully be reviewing it against the Anker Motion Boom soon.
The New LG is the worst of all.
Thanks for your thoughts. I quite like the LG - it's the smallest speaker on test but still sounds pretty good for most music I listened to.
