Kix Brooks is one of my favourites. The music aside, which both him and Ronnie deserve the awards received, Kix interviews are delightful and insightful.
Guy had zero desire for commercial success because most of the music on the radio is trash. Social media has taken the gatekeeping out of the music industry.
I met Kix in Sugarloaf Maine and he told me he was going to Nashville and make it and he did!… We we’re both kids. He was cool then and I’d guess that hasn’t changed. Nice conversation…
Kix Brooks is kind of the unsung hero of that duo. While Ronnie Dunn is the obvious "star" of the duo with that amazing voice and the cool Okie cowboy looks, Kix Brooks plays guitar, acoustic and rocks the electric, plays a damn good mandolin, and his harmonica playing is also great, being able to play folk and blues styles on it.
Kix's description of his relationship with his wife sounds so much like Marty Robbins' and Mari's marriage. Marty stayed married to Mari till the day he died. I know Guy was a big fan of Marty. It would be interesting if Marty gave Guy knowledge about how you can do it your way in Nashville, and still be successful.

I hate the version of LA Freeway that he did under contract, it is not what was intended. I fear he would agree.
Rodney Crowell and Lyle Lovett have both said, Guy's songs were literature.
