I was scared short out on prong method and did a combo. I took a couple of prongs and fed through the holes in the collar and attached to the wire instead of extra ecollar points. The contact with the dog's neck is better too. Really great idea!
I know this is an old comment but do you have a picture or video of whay you're talking about? Did you wrap wire around the ecollar screws and then tie the wire to the prongs?
@@JimiInTheJungle Yes, I wrapped the wire around the electric prong, threaded it through holes in the collar, fixed the prong of a prong collar at an angle with one prong through hole in the collar, tied in place and put electrical tape around it. Just be sure all is placed so you can't short circuit by mistake.
Best thing you can do for your pup is to STOP taking him to dog parks. Get dog friends that are just as avid about their dogs as you and let them play in backyard, or take them all on hikes. Dog parks are full of awful dogs
Will the prong collar still short out the unit if the prongs touch IF the stim is not being activated? Or will it short as long as the unit is powered on?
After you connect the "sprnger type, " you said never let the metal touch. Did you mean that, or did you mean "never touch them while activating the remote, because it will short out"???? Thanks
Hey Robert, I followed your design and still need further testing but when I test the collar on myself I seem to only feel it on the added contacts and I don't feel it from the transmitter contacts. So when I tap the button on the remote I'm still only feeling it from two contacts instead of all four. Am I doing something wrong? Are the transmitter contacts weaker because the flow of electricity is going to the added contacts? Or is that how it's supposed to work, one pair fails the other pair will make contact?
@@RobertCabralDogs Yeah I was using audio wire which is threaded because that's all I had at the moment. I was able to get some size 22 gauge solid wire and rewired the e-collar and it seems to have better connection. I'm feeling it on all four contacts now for sure. I’ve had dogs completely bum out simply due to the out of box buckle collar strap, it’s basically a straight jacket to get good consistent contact (especially with longer hair breeds). Bungee collar all day! Great stuff.
Good vid. It is IMHO, all about making sure your dogs knows the command. Then you can use the lowest tone needed to enforce a command if they blow you off.
I've been considering getting the "comfort wings" that Educator Collars sells as an additional add-on. I'm not as "mechanically minded" as you are, Robert, and a little worried I'd screw this up somehow. But watching this, I realize part of the idea of the comfort wings is to disperse the stimulation a bit more, and they DO say you can often/usually use a lower level once you use those "Comfort Wings", "Comfort Pads". For someone who's not as comfortable doing this hack, do you think spending $40-50 for those "Comfort Pads/wings" might make a meaningful difference in my dog's comfort? Thanks Robert--you've heard it a million times, but let me tell you once more--you're the BEST out there!! (And PS: I've seen that European $1200 collar you're talking about--I think they might owe you some royalties, lol)
did you figure out how to prevent climbs down comfort pads with ecollar on long hair dogs? we have to constantly check and bring it back to 4 oclock position
When a collar sits on a dog's neck, the dog's skin forms a closed circuit between the 2 points. Doing so with a prong collar (more metal) only decreases the resistance. Where are you getting this idea that you're going to short an ecollar (which is operated by a battery) and what is the "downside" to this if it's connected to a rechargeable battery? You just recharge it right? I'm confused by this part... I've worked very little with electronics but I don't think metal is more conductive than water and if water/dog's skin doesn't short it, then neither should metal.
Hi Robert. I have a chihuahua that is short haired and have the smallest educator for her. The problem I have is getting a proper fit, as it’s either to tight or shifts and doesn’t make proper contact. I decided to attach receiver to a soft leather collar, which seems to fit better for the time. However I am unsure if leather is ok to use? I plan to make a bungee type collar set up for her. Thanks for your time and great content!
You can get really light, soft biothane that's much more flexible and perfect for little dogs and punch the holes in it yourself, attach a bungey at the back and you're set.
Robert i have Belgian Malinois with little bit longer hair, i am just in process of folowing your guide in members area , do you think it will work ok?
Most of the Herm Sprenger links are now either chrome plated steel, or black powder coated steel. Will those both work with electrical conduction? I can't find raw, unplated stainless steel Herm Sprenger links?
I love this idea but my mal has to use the sensitive adapter and can't use the regular prongs for his mini educator how would I go about doing this cause this make perfect sense. Because when my mal is amped up I have to turn up the level on his ecollar and I don't like having to do that to regain his focus
If I use this lower on my GSDs neck while also wearing a Prong "Keepers Collar" snug just below ears/high on neck, would that be okay? I'm wondering about the risk of shorting the collar. You say NOT to use a "Fur Saver" chain collar with this die to risk of short, that makes sense as those are loose and move around a lot. But what kind of collar would you use to attach a leash? Even with a plain, flat collar & leash, is there a risk that the metal clasp on lease & d-ring on plain collar could touch prongs & cause a short? I'm wondering if you are suggesting to only use this set up if your dog is ONLY wearing this & otherwise off-leash?
What is the thread size and pitch? i tried it on myself 1st. went up to a 7 on my own neck. WOW. On my cattle dog, the collar was not working so i kept turning it up, tightening, re-adjusting. Then all of a sudden my poor dog barks and jumps 6 ft straight up. So i put it back on my neck and pushed the button at 16, bang! I might have jumped higher than he did. now i feel like such a dick. eventually i got it to work at 5 but the collar feels so stinking tight . too tight to go trail running. This showed up in my feed at the right time. What is the thread size and pitch?
Will you take responsibility for the risk of sending a dog into water with an electronic tool conducting electricity to metal prongs that has been altered against safety recommendations and outside manufacturer testing? Or does your statement that this is only for “advanced handlers” (yet posting it online for all to see) do enough to clear your guilt?
@@emilyanderson5832 I don't use the Educator Collar while it is wet. It was developed by electrical engineers. The charging ports have rubber plugs that prevent water from getting into the unit. The collar is stated to be safe to get wet in the manual. The company has been around a long time, and the product appears to be safe; Mr Cabral's alteration doesn't actually change the way the electricity is conducted, and he's also done this a long time-- so no, I'm not sweating it. I did look into it further.
The problem is telling people, as a whole, that this modification is safe for XYZ. Altering the wiring and making modifications to a product that conducts electricity is incredibly dangerous and unethical. Obviously everyone can take the risk of they’d like but it is not something that a “professional” should be putting out to the general public, even which the acknowledgement that only “experienced handlers” should do this - because we all know some jackass will inevitably screw it up and fry themselves or their dog. It has happened to people with a regular ecollar malfunction, and creating a modification without safety testing is dangerous.
Please teach Pierre W about the correct and the human use of an e-collar. We need a good spokesperson in Europe who can speak positive about the e-collar use.
Robert, everyone says (including you on past videos) that the smaller Herm Springer links are better when used as a regular training collar--but with your hack, especially on a undercoated/thick coated dog like a German Shepherd, I imagine the bigger Herm Sprenger links would work better with your hack, right? Because you're not going for a better "pinch", you're simply going for better contact (when using your hack--no pinching or physical leash pressure involved, just mild electric stim). Agreed?
Damn dude this video is low key mind blowing, I had no idea you could rig up extra contacts like that so easily. I own an almost 6 month old Malinois and will be conditioning her to the e collar soon, this is exactly the sort of info I've been looking for. I don't need to know how to condition the collar or how to use it, mostly just want to know little tricks like this to make it more versatile or useful...
Did you say that someone makes a "prong e-collar" - I guess I don't feel comfortable wiring it up wrong. I do absolutely love the concept of evenly spaced, lower power concept Please let me know if someone makes one - thank you
What diameter/size screws do you use when you attach the prong collar to the E collar? Btw your a genius for coming up with this idea. Part of the problem I’ve always had with the ecollar was the prongs not consistently making contact. I have a German Shepherd with a thick under coat.
You ought to patent these hacks and sell your own collars! I'll be the first in line to buy one. Will I make one myself? M'eh, probably not - but I'd buy one from you.
The dog feels the shock much more intensely than a human does. So I suggest if you feel it on 4 then use less like 2 or 3 on the dog and really observe how the dog reacts because some dogs are much more sensitive to shock than other dogs. My collar has vibration and shock. Some dogs hate vibration.
@@alaskayoung3413 thats from my observation. Why are some people more sensitive to pain than others? I guess we will never know for sure why dogs are different than people. When I try it at a certain number that I hardly feel and the dog reacts heavily, it seems obvious that he feels it more intensely. Maybe it's something to do with their skin or how much hair they have that causes electricity to conduct more easily. I don't know why. Maybe short haired dogs conduct electricity less than long hair. I do think it's a good idea to watch how your dog reacts and not base it only on how you feel. Dog trainers suggest that you use the lowest setting that works. It's like when you say a command. It's best to say it calmly and get more and more intense until it works. You want to use thé minimum amount of intensity for anything. If a child misbehaves and stops as soon as you calmly tell him to stop, then great. No need to get heavy u less he continues. Same idea. That's my opinion.
@@perrypelican9476 where did u try it on yourself? Like part of body. Bc that will change how it feels. I asked bc I was curious if your statement was like an objective science fact or your opinion.
Wish you had on a white shirt. I can't see the collar in front of your black shirt. I can't tell what you did with the prong. It looked like you took it out and just put it back in. I saw no difference.
If you understand the concept of a prong putting less pressure on the neck of a dog compared to a flat collar you can draw the same conclusion from this video.
Hello Robert! I have a question to do to you, hope you can give me your opinion. My dog is reactive to some doga while he is in our yard. Some specific dogs e really gets crazy with them. Whats the best way to stop that. Happens many times im inside the house and he gets crazy and i need to go at door and send him to his bed. Its e-collar an option, so i can give him a correction faster instead i walk to the door and then correct him?? Thanks for the videos, i really love your content!
Perhaps start with teaching the dogs what you want before correcting them with e-collar e.a. sit with your dog and teach them through positive reinforcement what you want. When they comply with you present then increase distance, when they fully understand and are 75% reliable is when you should start e-collar correction imo
Hi Robert, do we need to use the e-collar on the dog forever? Or we wouldn't need it once the dog is fully trained/condition? I'm just concern that if without the e-collar on my dog while out in the parks and my dog wouldn't listen to my commends. Many thanks.

Just be sure all is placed so you can't short circuit by mistake.
what a great video, thank you!
Thanks for the free info been following you since I am trying to get a GSD this spring!
Good luck. Do your homework & go thru a reputable breeder. Getting my GSD has been life changing in the best ways!
Awesome mods! I have an e-collar but have not used it - not educated enough yet.
Glad to see that you are humane
Can you tell us for what is that bracelet you are wearing all the time?
Thanks
🤔...I need to make one of these with the prongs on the exterior for whenever my dog gets bullied at the dog park
On the final hack, A close-up of the details would be nice
I'll be posting a follow up video soon!
@@RobertCabralDogs Thank you, and could you clarify this stupid question I have?
It may feel weaker but all 4 should receive a stim .
@@RobertCabralDogs Yeah I was using audio wire which is threaded because that's all I had at the moment. I was able to get some size 22 gauge solid wire and rewired the e-collar and it seems to have better connection. I'm feeling it on all four contacts now for sure. I'm a big fan and love your content, thank you and goodnight 🐕🦺👍
I was gonna write a whole story about my experience with the shock collar. But instead I will just say buy the damn thing and try it on yourself. It's a must buy tool for training
Can the prongs touch while the collar is off or would that cause it to short out too?
If it’s off there’s no worry.
@@RobertCabralDogs okay thanks!! If it’s on but not using the static button will that short it? Or Will it only short out if you’re pressing the static button and both sides touch??
Thank you very much for these useful tips!
So if I have the prong e collar setup what happens if my dog brushes against a gate? will the collar short out?
No
one of the things about the prong collar is the voltage decrease as it goes out from the box.
I’ve done it for years. Insignificant decrease. Best option is to use the Martin system collar here:
If I move the strap like your first hack will it affect its ability to be water proof?
thanks, when I'll try on my collar I'll check if it looks water proof
I’ve had dogs completely bum out simply due to the out of box buckle collar strap, it’s basically a straight jacket to get good consistent contact (especially with longer hair breeds). Bungee collar all day! Great stuff.
Pro trick : you can watch movies at Flixzone. Been using them for watching a lot of movies recently.
Thanks for the info. Lil Rhody thanks you too.
Much appreciated Sir, from the United Kingdom
Good vid. It is IMHO, all about making sure your dogs knows the command. Then you can use the lowest tone needed to enforce a command if they blow you off.
Thank you so much.
I haven’t tried the wings, but the idea is similar. Thank you for your kind words.
did you figure out how to prevent climbs down comfort pads with ecollar on long hair dogs? we have to constantly check and bring it back to 4 oclock position
Have you ever had an issue with the two main probes backing off when threaded with the collar in between?
no... use a drop of loctite!
Would it be a problem if water gets in contact with the wires?
no!
@@RobertCabralDogs thanks!
thank you very much friend !!! #Brazil
how about water and rain in particular? it safe same as regular waterproof collars?
I’ll be covering that in an upcoming video.
Robert can you tell me what kind of screw goes on PT6 since i cant find correct one its crazy !!!
Take it with you to the hardware store
@@RobertCabralDogs did and our hardware stores are like shit :D Will have to order it online and i am not sure about step of screw i need to use.
found it :D it works like charm :D
@@fazer215 wat was the dimension of the screw tat fitted, finally?
For the Delta XC Sport the screw is a UNC size 4 (is an American thread)
In the prong variation, how are prongs connected to receiver?
Two screws. Watch the full video on my page: robertcabral.com
Thank you for putting this out.
Sorry about the slow learner feedback.
that's awesome, thank you for sharing this.
I would use plastic or biothane
@@RobertCabralDogs ok. Thanks for your response.
You can get really light, soft biothane that's much more flexible and perfect for little dogs and punch the holes in it yourself, attach a bungey at the back and you're set.
@@TeslaNick2 thanks!
Robert i have Belgian Malinois with little bit longer hair, i am just in process of folowing your guide in members area , do you think it will work ok?
Yes it will work!
Most of the Herm Sprenger links are now either chrome plated steel, or black powder coated steel. Will those both work with electrical conduction? I can't find raw, unplated stainless steel Herm Sprenger links?
I’m using the chrome plated. Works perfect.
Very informative and beautifully delivered - thank you on behalf of all of us the newbies
Just buy the wings for long coated dogs. No need to jerry rig something and short out your receiver and have to buy a whole new one.
Is the e-collar with the four contact points similar to the Chamelion by Martin Systems/Bart Bellon?
I love this idea but my mal has to use the sensitive adapter and can't use the regular prongs for his mini educator how would I go about doing this cause this make perfect sense. Because when my mal is amped up I have to turn up the level on his ecollar and I don't like having to do that to regain his focus
Can you make these and sell them 🙏
I joined your website and I see now that you give directions on how to make the prong collar. Thank you.
I couldn’t see up close in the video how you attached the prong collar ends to the screw terminals of the receiver.
It’s not the.Buckley that is the issue, it’s the chain laying across the contacts.
Take your collar to the hardware store with you. Different collars have different threads. Easiest just to take it along.
Thank you
Genius!!!!!
Thank you 🙏🏼
I use my dogs ecollar on my neck when I have a migraine it helps to massage the muscles and helps
Really?! That's genius!
You can get e-stim devices with better contacts for relatively cheap at like Walgreens or CVS.
Is there any additional risk with this if your dog jumps into pond or gets wet while it's on?
No more risk. Same as regular ECollar.
@@emilyanderson5832 shut up because you know nothing of how electricity works woman.
Agreed?
I still only use the 2.25mm both for
My Malinois and my Gsd
Damn dude this video is low key mind blowing, I had no idea you could rig up extra contacts like that so easily. I own an almost 6 month old Malinois and will be conditioning her to the e collar soon, this is exactly the sort of info I've been looking for. I don't need to know how to condition the collar or how to use it, mostly just want to know little tricks like this to make it more versatile or useful...
Then when it fails and you over stim your dog you’ll be regretting it.
@@scoobyjohn1 excuse you?
How do you stop dogs that chew the paracord hanging down?
Did you say that someone makes a "prong e-collar" - I guess I don't feel comfortable wiring it up wrong.
I do absolutely love the concept of evenly spaced, lower power concept
Please let me know if someone makes one - thank you
I did it myself. watch the video
Yes
Start at level one on the collar. Your dog may feel the collar at lower levels than you will feel. I feel 12 on my hand my dog can feel 3 on the EC
What diameter/size screws do you use when you attach the prong collar to the E collar? Btw your a genius for coming up with this idea. Part of the problem I’ve always had with the ecollar was the prongs not consistently making contact. I have a German Shepherd with a thick under coat.
Take the. Collar with you the hardware store. Different brands, different sizes.
Also the 1st hack actually decreases space under the collar thus increasing choking. Put it on a short-fur dog to see for yourself.
You ought to patent these hacks and sell your own collars! I'll be the first in line to buy one. Will I make one myself? M'eh, probably not - but I'd buy one from you.
Very interesting. With Zed I need the Bleep sound all round , not the stim lol : ) Bit more tricky I think. Thanks Robert, great ideas.
Send me a DM Laura, I may be able to help you out on that...
wizardry! nice info
Why does a dog feel it more?

How is it more humane to turn a prong collar into a shock collar?
If you understand the concept of a prong putting less pressure on the neck of a dog compared to a flat collar you can draw the same conclusion from this video.
Using the collar on a 1 setting is how it’s just as humane.
Thanks for this genius tip! Will try this for sure
I am embarrassed I hadn't thought of these myself
What happens if your dog gets it wet?
Hi Robert, do we need to use the e-collar on the dog forever? Or we wouldn't need it once the dog is fully trained/condition? I'm just concern that if without the e-collar on my dog while out in the parks and my dog wouldn't listen to my commends. Many thanks.
If only I could find a man who'd let me outfit him in an e-prong...
