Today we take a look at the Federation Valkyrie Fighter.
We saw this craft in Star Trek Invasion on the Playstation 1.
There is now a version in Star Trek Bridge Commander.
Armed with Micro Quantum Torpedoes and a cloaking device how will it fare against a Cardassian Galor?
Thanks for watching!

Are they now? Glad they are remembered!
Oh, this will be good! Loved Invasion, a great PSX game!
That brought back memories for me. I never played that game, but my two favorite consoles were the NES original and the PS1.
@@retluoc if you get the chance, Invasion was a *very* good game, made by the team behind Colony Wars (a trilogy of quality PSX space games)
Yes! I've been waiting for this for a long time. I wonder if we'll see a USS Typhon mod eventually.
I really hope so 🤞
The problem with small fighters is that they are not meant to go against capital ships. They are meant to go against other small crafts.
Capital ships are the prey of bombers and torpedo crafts. Fighters simply do not carry the heavy payload weaponry required.
That's true in sci fi too. You'll need to carry battleship-level torpedoes, mines, drones or other similarly devastating weapons, otherwise you'll be utterly ineffective. The cloaking device would be essential if your average capital ship can wipe you off the universe from several light seconds away.
In a realistic setting, such small crafts would not even have a reactor capable to power energy weapons with the yield required for the task. Maybe with extra power capacitors for some limited shots.
A perfect complement for the Federation modified Galactica. That being said Fed Galactica and Valkyries vs Star Destroyer and TIE fighters
I think they used a different type of fighters in DS9. A few of those type really did major damage to a Cardassian Galore ship. This was an interesting match for sure.
Oh, hell, yes! We have a Valkyrie in Bridge Commander! And it looked like as respectable a conversion as you could get. Personally, I'd have made the shields autobalance (like the Enterprise-F) just to represent how a ship that small would only really have one shield, but that's minor. Kudos to the mod maker!
Typhon and Valkyrie IIs and IIIs soon, please!
4:45 Yes, I had some of them in my hangar bays but they were meant to go out in wings (if not on reconnaissance missions). Also, keep in mind that their smaller fuel supply limits their range.
I don't see their energy weapons punching through the shields of most larger vessels unless the latter are technologically inferior to these fighters.
I love the Valkyiers! Good to see them in action again!
I always thought that the Danube-class Runabouts were pretty tough even without the weapons array added to the top for use in the Cardasian war, but of course those Valkyrie are made for fighting.
I think Operation Return conclusively demonstrated the usefulness, and not useful, aspects of fighters. Against heavy destroyers, cruisers and above, they are less useful because they are too easily destroyed by secondary batteries. The losses against ships with 360 degree weapons coverage would be prohibitively high as we saw with the (refit) Galor Type IIs popping fighters like zits with even their secondaries in exchange for only modest damage thanks to the stronger hulls and shields of larger ships. However, fighters would be *extremely* useful against attack ships like the Bug and B'Rel BoPs that don't really have 360 degree weapons coverage. Fighters could maintain their position in the weapons' blind spots by virtue of their superior maneuverability and cause more damage thanks to the lighter shields and hull of attack ships. Fighters would be outstanding as escorts for larger starships with limited weapons coverage to keep attack ships off them. The D'Deridex Warbird in particular would benefit from escorting fighters, as would a Neghvar.
Great video as always! After commenting on your video the other day with the Spirit, I was thinking of making a request to see a fleet of Danube-class runabouts going up against it. Now, after watching this, I'd like to propose a kind of mini-series for the USS Spirit, first against the runabouts, then maybe a squadron of Delta Flyers, then one made up of the Valkyrie fighter, and so on all the way up to the strongest! You know - the Klingon shuttle! What do you think, RBG?
It could be done a 1 on 1. I would of gone for the aft phaser array and then the impulse engines. Other option being as you did, attack the underside but aim for the engines.
Keep up these amazing battles 😁
That's a good tactic. Thanks 🖖
😲Yes Admiral.. I remember the walkthrough with this ship.. In the game was tough but eeh.. sorry in this game.. ouch.. lol. and room for one, so.. the crew are the HUD display.. oh my.. I could see Brex on that screen.. lol. well if wasn't for the planet's atmosphere the ship held out good against the Valour.. lol. Galor sorry.. lol... and more would be better, and I would prefer in an Akira.. and only use this to escape if things goes hmm sideways.. Love the battle and so sorry with the cloak Admiral.. .. eeh.. Dylan will not forget this..lol. !😊🖖
Tough little ship
Little?😂
@@MSR-1701"You do Remember how to use phasers"?
If you had (72) or (96) of them with say a large ship in the distance regenerating the Valkyries power / shields while in battle...Yes, I would say they would be vastly more effective than several Galor classes or even Domain battleship.
Well, Valkyrie certainly has a way of blowing things up. 😉
Quite!
@@MSR-1701 You never played StarCraft, hmmm? 😉
@@MisterMarin nope, never had the chance way back when, on my eventual to-play list😂

1:22 the REAL danger is Retro Badger having control over a cloaking device
🤔😨😩oh gosh.. lol. poor Retro-Badger....!! eeh!
Lol. You'll be happy to know the cloak button has been wired up to 50000volts of electricity. ⚡
@@RetroBadgerGaming 🤔😨😱lol!!
I never played that game on the PS1, but I loved that system. It and the original NES were my favorites. I mostly played sports and RPGs on the PS1, I used my PC for simulators and Sci-fi games.
As for the fight... that little ship is impressive... it's like a supercharged Delta Flyer. 😀
And then there were the upgraded Valkyrie ships (which sadly aren't in BC)😎😅👍
Of course in the conditions described on screen flitting around at measurable percentages of the speed of light there's just no way a pilot could possibly react in anything like time to stay in formation much less react to a target itself moving about at anything like that speed. Not even unless they had some kind of stasis field that massively speeds up time for them or something like trek supposedly has for their computer cores.
Do you think we'll get the Typhon Carrier in Bridge commander? (Where the Valkyries came from) and Star Trek Invasion
That is something asked often, sadly it looks like a model would need to be made from scratch for BC specifically
You should checkout the Mark III Valkyrie design by Auctor Lucan
A used in SFCommand 2 .
You dont actually fight the Cardassians in Star Trek: Invasion, you fight a unique to that game alien race called the Kam'Jahtae and they corrupt basically the only other Sovereign class we knew about at the time, the USS Sentinel and, by causing the captain to go insane and he starts trying to like summon more of the aliens throughout the game. You also have to fight the Borg including a cube.
Main enemy is the H'urq. And old Klingon enemy
@@darkmatter1152 "However, as the game progresses, the Borg threat is suddenly dwarfed by the re-emergence of an alien race, the Kam'Jahtae, descendants of an ancient Klingon enemy, the Hur'q. The reawakened Kam'Jahtae seek to reclaim the space they previously controlled, and are using the USS Sentinel in their plans. Cooper and the Typhon find themselves racing against time to prevent an all-out invasion of the galaxy. "
From the Memory Alpha entry for the game.
You do face Cardassians in Invasion, and one mission with them is rather nasty, as you have to disable the shields of not-DS9 and inflict enough damage with a tight countdown.
The little Valkyrie put up a good fight but it just couldn't win😞🖖
Now if only the Rebel Alliance somehow got their hands on these….
That's no fighter...It has an entire bridge crew on it. It must be the Delta Flyer 3.0
😂😂
I honestly don't really like the Valkyrie fighter; it feels like you got some Star Wars in my Star Trek.
Really more of a Battle Star Galactica feel to me mix with Colony Wars PS1. IMO though I could see the Valkyries used as auxiliary units at starbases for defense purposes in regions of space that had low to medium level intensity engagements(pirates or space bandits). I kinda of in the Weird category were I think Trek need fighter class starships. I mean every situation doesn't require a full size Federation Starship.
Would I like to be in that ship? Only if it had a toilet 😂
🤣🤣
3:35 The carrier ship?
enterprise A, B, and C against E?
