I think that most of the distrust of mechanical broadheads is because of this brand right here. I watch all of your videos John, and I think there are so many better choices out there for a mechanical broadhead, but this brand continues to be popular. I will keep using Sevr until something changes. Thanks for the video

Rage is the only broadheads that I never had problems with or lost an animal. Yeah the test the durability but ultimately what matters is terminal performance.

I have read a lot of horror stories about Rage mechanicals. That said, before I began watching UA-cam and looking for gun/bow related videos, the only heads I ever used were Thunderhead 100gr fixed blades, and then I switched to Rage mechanicals when I discovered them (can’t remember year). I never lost an animal or had a deflection ever. I always tagged out in archery season and couldn’t hunt during the modern gun season for 8 or 9 deer seasons, so I was fortunate to take several deer with a bow. After seeing all the bad reviews of the new Rage mechanicals, this year I bought Montec G5 fixed blade heads and managed to shoot a doe opening morning archery here in Kentucky with less than satisfying results. Perhaps I’m just used to blood trails that look like buckets of blood have doused the area, so, I’m going to take my chances and switch back. I’ll keep the fixed blades for when a whitetail is behind 3 sheets of stainless steel, 3 rubber mats, a concrete wall, 150 yards away, and I fear snapping a razor blade.

    • @Ninjamovesbeh
      @Ninjamovesbeh 2 роки тому +1

@@Hammerback0 yeah i never had a blade snapped or anything. The still use the old hypos and just replace the dull blades after each kill. The mechanical vs fixed thing is like the fmj vs hollow point in bullets. Fmj will kill and will penetration better but hollow point will make a bigger hole.

I know a several guys at work that use Rage broadheads and they are happy with the results. I killed three deer with Sevrs last year and I really like them. Ultimately, confidence is worth more than just about anything else. However, if I can get big cuts and great durability and no exposed blades and great customer service, I will take it all and gladly! Good hunting this fall 👍🏻

This is not the first test I’ve seen with Rage broadheads with multiple issues. Blades not opening, breaking off etc… I’m being 100% honest when I say Grim Reaper broadheads are my go to and very reliable. I’ve never had an animal go more than 100 yards. They leave a MASSIVE wound channel and clean pass through every time. Made in USA is a plus for me also. I have friends that use Swackers and have had good experiences as well. Great video good luck hunting all.

My son used these heads on an antelope hunt 3 weeks ago. He got a complete pass through and a blood trail that was phenomenal. Entry and exit appeared to have full deployment of the blades. Just offering a real world example. Shoot what broadhead gives you confidence and put it where it is supposed to go.

@@longshotdiedtired1582 Last year I shot my deer with a 415 gr arrow at 280fps with a sevr 1.5 and I was pretty impressed. With that lighter arrow, I still got a complete pass through and the deer only ran roughly 80yds before expiring. The only thing I wasn't overly happy about was the blood trail, but that deer had so much fat built up on her ribcage that I really think for the first 50 or so yards it didn't have enough blood pressure to push through the fat. More testing is required but so far I see no reason to switch unless I get a heavier setup, and then I would just switch to the 2.0.

I took my first buck with a Rage when I got back into bowhuting back in 2015, back when Rage was using the shock collar. Rage sure puts a lot of money into advertising, but I have not used them since that first hunt and would not recommend them at all. The NC system is convenient because you are not busting shock collars when you bump the broadhead, but if anything their broadheads today are less lethal than 7 years ago. There are clearly better option available today. Your channel really exposes the weaknesses in the Rage system, and you've done an excellent job of informing the hunting community that there are better options available than what Rage offers.

This confirms what I have experienced on actual whitetails in the field. So so frustrating. 20yd broadside shots performed horribly. Maybe this year -- fingers crossed

Never used any form of mechanical but a buddy gave me a pack of these heads to sharpen up for him and on one head...BRAND SPANKING NEW pack by the way...one of the blades didn't get fully machined correctly and wouldn't clip back into the ferrule...yes it was the head they have fully opened in the package to show you how far the blades open...but they sent it out anyway...hmmmm wonder where their quality control really starts. That head is useless until you get some replacement blades but that's a given since these are a one and done 99% of the time. From what I've seen on this channel I wouldn't spend a penny on these heads. I'll never shoot a mechanical but I'm with you guys who stepped up to the Sevrs...by far a better head.

I think that the reason the head closed so quickly in the penetration test is because the resistance of the rubber and MDF on the opened blades was far greater than the resistance of the ballistics gel on the front of the head. As a result it locked shut.

I don’t shoot Rage anymore. I have went to Magnus Stinger Buzzcuts.
However, keeping it fair, Rage is a one and done head, and all who shoot them know that. Durability isn’t a consideration because it will only be shot once.
Keeping that in mind, Rage are not terrible heads.
If you are a guy that doesn’t spend time tuning your equipment, it may be better to shot this and hit the mark, rather than a fixed head and badly miss the mark.

Good comment. At the same time, if there are heads that are not "one and done" and cost the same--then why not shoot those instead. The "done" part is happening within an animal and can affect its lethality as well.

My tests are simply designed to provide data points so people can make informed decisions about which broadhead is best for them. If one head can stay intact thru the MDF, Steel Plate & Concrete and another falls apart on the MDF--all other things equal--I know which one is going in my quiver.

Rage gets badmouthed because they aren't even close in quality to other mechanical heads. Between the three blades not opening, the 2 blades sometimes not staying open, and all of them bending/breaking blades like the g5 mechanicals, there's not really any reason to shoot them. The 270 had issues because shooting elk with cup and core bullets at 3200fps doesn't end in deep penetration. Much like how the durability and reliability of sevr has dethroned the rage, premium bullets like the badlands bulldozer, swift scirocco, and nosler partition have dethroned the old cup and core bullets for use in the 270 on elk sized game. People found problems and other companies found solutions. Rage will still kill an animal, but I trust a sevr to do it more reliably and consistently.

I enjoy this channel, and it’s not a insult to this gentleman, but I told my wife before I started the video that it was going to be a video trashing the heads. I’ve taken many deer with Rage mechanicals, never lost one, never had a head fail. I don’t expect a broad head to shoot through metal repeatedly or anything else repeatedly. I sharpen my knives, but I elect not to chance trying to Re sharpen a broad head, and I’d say 99% of hunters replace them after harvesting an animal. I’d like to see some channels similar to this test some firearms/ammunition. Can you imagine the equivalent video? “This Win-emgton .22 ammunition is trash, it repeatedly fails to penetrate the ballistics gel the minimum required by FBI standards, when shot from a 2” barrel at 200 yards”. And a comment section full of individuals who never cut the tags off of their “Carbon Activated scent elimination suit” they bought from Cabelas last year “Win-emgton is such junk! I tried taking a charging grizzly down with it in November, bear didn’t flinch, had to beat it to death with my bare fists”. In reality those soft, supple, non calloused hands have held nothing more than their keyboard. Sorry. Went a bit off track, just annoying to read when I’ve seen results in person

I hate to always be knocking mechanicals, and Rage in particular. But dang it, they simply do not hold up,I could care less how many animals people SAY they've taken with them either. If you have a head breaking down in this manner thru CARDBOARD,and not staying open in GEL,,,,what do you really have ? I'll tell you what you have,,,,,,you have a Las Vegas Casino betting gamble that your head will open and fully perform. But why ? Why gamble when you can get a tough as nails COC head that can fly like a dart to 100 yards and but 3 of them for $29 ? That's what I decided to do and will continue to do, and continue to pile up animals all year long. I'm going to get consistent performance and bone smashing ability, with massive blood trails.
I for one am not buying the Rage hype, never have, and frankly why I no longer listen to a word John dudley says on his account of trying to push inferior garbage on to the masses of rookie bow hunters with this Rage head and stupid gimmicks like "Quiver trousers" by Sitka.
It's time archers understand when they are being SOLD a bill of goods thats junk. Thanks to honest straight as an arrow type of people like John Lusk who develops a program that cannot be manipulated and simply posts the results for us to see guys like John Dudley are really pushing inferior product. I know there is a ton of Nock On followers. But it's time ya'll take note that MONEY motivates many of our archery people,John Dudley is just one such guy. Drury boys are another. Stop buying into their B.S. Why try a inferior product when you can get something far better, but only missing the "endorsement" by paid pro's ? Get out there and kill some animals yourself and do you own due diligence.
Scrap the Rage guys. Not worth the GAMBLE. You may have killed 100 animals with a Rage, you just never know when the head with a known fault comes back to halt you. Increase your success CHANCES with a tough fixed head. I hate reading about heads noth opening up from Rage users.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Mike. There are some things I like about their design and I know they've taken a ton of animals...but I wish they'd less into their marketing & more into their durability.

Broadhead companies should pay you money to test before they go out on market
And you show them the REAL WEAK POINTS

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures

I've had some companies get my input in their design phases...but I don't charge them.
I'm sure Rage knows exactly what their heads can and cannot do.
It's all a choice of how to invest your dollars based on your return on investment. If they invested more in their durability and less in their marketing, they'd have a better broadhead...but wouldn't be as profitable.

Typical rage. Instead of “rage in the cage”. It needs to be “rage leaves blades in the cage”. Rage broadheads are a rich man’s broadhead. You have to replace the blades every time you shoot one.

Cool name and great marketing "RAGE, RAGE, RAGE" 🙄 They made their millions upon millions they could care less now. If they did care they would have made a better head over the years. Then you have fan boys that will snap and mangle blades and say oh they've done so good. 🤯🤡😂
