  • The last Boeing 747, a -8F is the 1574th built of a production run that has spanned 55 years. Join me in the final B747 delivery Ceremony at Boeing Everett factory.
Listen to Boeing’s current and former CEO honoring the “incredibles”, John Travolta talking about his love of B747 and Lufthansa Group CEO Carsten Spohr announcing the upgrade of their 747-8 cabins. I spoke with Charlie Trippe Jr, grandson of Pan Am’s founder Juan Trippe and many Boeing employees who worked on the 747 line with their stories and emotions.
The last B747; Atlas Air N863GT departed Everett the next morning at 8:19am. She received a water cannon salute, followed by a quick takeoff with a steep climb out. Then she performed a low flyby to say goodbye! Later, she drew a 747 and a crown in the sky!
Over the years, I have been fortunate to fly on the 747 a total of 282 times, with every model from the 747-100 to the 747-8F, from 747-SP to SR to SUD and Combis. There are many memorable ones….I picked some special 747 flights to share with you!

The 747 represents a new life for me and my parents transporting us from Korea to the US as immigrants way back in 1973. And since then it's represented to me travel to faraway lands. Every time I see its unmistakable profile, I feel a combination of wonderment and nostalgia. I mean, a four engine giant, people wonder how does something of this size go airborne? I miss the days of boarding 747's on Northwest Airlines, UA, KAL, and Pan Am.

over the next 20 years, this majestic queen of the skies took me to and from China nearly a dozen times. I flew on every major variant of the jet except the dash 8...and I will always equate long haul flights with the 747.

Sam, a beautiful job as always! - I had the privilege to design, produce and direct the television coverage for Boeing of the ATO for the 7E7, the rollout of the first 787, the first flight of the 787, the first flight of the first 747-8 and the launch of the first 747LR, and I still cried when I watched your coverage of the last 747 from the Everett plant. Thanks for staying warm and being the superb reporter and enthusiast you are. 747 FOREVER!

Sam, Thank you for posting this video of probably the greatest commercial aircraft ever built. I had the chance as a kid to watch the 1st 747 of Pan Am land at Kennedy Airport after its flight from London. I've had the chance to fly in a couple of them in my life and it remains my favorite. What a story that is part of American history. The 747 is truly a milestone highlight of aviation.

I remember walking up to the gate and seeing for the first time parked in front of the gate, and remember the feeling of awe at the sight of it. Over the years I’ve flown on the 747 a several more times and have always looked forward to those flights more than any other.

My first 747 flight was my trip to Germany with hundreds of other military folks.(flying tigers 1985) My next 747 flight was my voyage home in FEB 1988....I remember sitting on that flight back to the states...wondering what my future would be. Occasionally looking out the window at that huge wing...
Exactly 1 year later...I crested the steps of a 747-400 on the Everett flightline....32 years later I would walk off her for the very last time...a young man had climbed those steps....but a blessed old man had exited for the last time.....Long live the 747!

Hi Sam. My history with 747 started back in 1978. Airline was back the Canadian CP air. It was my move to Canada,Toronto. After that KLM,Luhthansa,BA flights took me over the bond (Toronto-Helsinki-Helsinki-Toronto) for years. And yes.. 747 never had direct flights to Helsinki. Of all the planes I have flown I have to say 747,all types, have a place in my heart forever. PS. Not forgetting Concord. But that's another story. Love watching your videos Sam.

I grew up south of Seattle and my dad worked at Boeing from 1957 until he retired. 747 #1 was common sight flying into and out of Boeing field. When we would travel up to Seattle on I5 or Empire Way, that plane and many more to come could be seen on the flightline... waiting to take flight again. It's still is.

I was on the first flight ever of a 747 Pan Am flight to Liberia in West Africa.
There had been a bad tropical storm on our approach to the Robertsfield Airport. We landed very hard and bounced very high, once on the ground, the airplane slid off part of the runway. Exciting flight nonetheless!!
