    OHMYGOD HEY!
While in New York, I absolutely had to check out the new MUSEUM OF BROADWAY, a series of carefully curated exhibits celebrating all things New York Theatre.
With sections dedicated to musicals from West Side Story to Wicked, there are so many amazing photo spots, historic artifacts and plenty of fascinating information to enjoy!

This is delightful! I had no idea that this had finally opened, omg. A fun Broadway history fact for you: Broadway got its first female producer because the Titanic sank! Irene "Renee" Harris and her husband were co-owners of the Hudson Theater, and discovered Ethel Barrymore when they produced the play that shot her to stardom. The couple were first class passengers on the Titanic, but only Renee survived because she got on Collapsible Life Boat D, which was the final life boat to be rescued. When she returned to the Hudson, she took over her husband's role as the theater's producer, thus becoming Broadway's first female producer. And thankfully, the Hudson reopened a few years back and because of that, they're the oldest currently-operating Broadway theater!

I love that there's an area dedicated to stage managers/the backstage areas! The backstage crew often gets overlooked, and so it's nice that they get a shout-out in the museum, especially since they play such an important role in bringing these shows to life.

Speaking of William Berloni, he not only trained dogs for the original production of Annie, but the 2012 revival as well! He’s also trained animals for loads of shows on Broadway and regionally. He’s written a book about it, too!

the zigfield costumes are so wonderful. my mom's not even that old, but she still has stories of going to see movies at radio city music hall as a little girl, with intermission performances by the rockettes. I've never really had a point of reference for what the costumes looked like, but they're really quite shocking! would not have expected the one shouldered top to appear potentially 90 years ago, but I guess it just goes to show that the previous generations were not the prudes we think they were. now that I know about this I think I'll try to go this week!

A lot of Vaudevillian theater was considered low brow and risque, so not surprising that some of the costumes would match that.

Thanks for this! From what I'd seen from other people and from their own social media, I'd gotten the impression this was mostly photo ops without many actual artifacts, and I wasn't really interested in that. Glad to see they have all these pieces.

Such a cool museum - I went back in early December shortly after it opened and loved it! Looks like they changed the costumes around at the end so it must be a rotating showpiece to protect the costumes (when I went, they didn't have the ITW and Beetlejuice costumes but they did have a costume from Taboo, a dress worn by Christine Ebersole in Grey Gardens, and a dress Jennifer Hudson wore in the recent Color Purple revival - the last dress looks like it's been relegated to the back corner in your video)... it'll be exciting to go back and see new stuff added as time goes on! :D

There was a phantom scene where you get on the boat with Christine and there is a chandelier you can drop. I felt it was more immersive. This movie was missing more interactive aspects of it. 😊

Madame tussads not Madame tissue 😂😂 the wax muesuem is not about education and is purely for entertainment value so of course there's more interactive elements. It's also horribly expensive and a tourist trap. The muesuem of Broadway is more for theatre fans who appreciate the actual history and behind the scenes elements of theatre. Also not all muesuems are for everyone.

I went in February and can't recommend it enough. There are a lot of stairs because it's in NYC, so real estate has to be vertical. You go up and down about five stories worth so pace yourself. I like whenever places warn you of such things so you can decide if it's appropriate for elderly visitors or not. Take your time to appreciate everything.
