Paulie was a much hyped and celebrated trash fighter who shouldn't have adopted that stage name, their clearly was nothing magical about him, quite the contrary actually,..but be that as it may, he tried but couldn't overcome not only the power gap but skill wise, was lacking big time as well as he was easily hit. We still salute him because he had the balls to get in the ring and get his ass beat down.
@@AlmightyAnt300 exactly. He had no business fighting any top fighters. He’s so basic all he ever did was check hook, throw weak 1-2’s and try to survive and still talks trash like he could ever back it up. Very unprofessional couldn’t even go to the weigh in for bare knuckle boxing without slapping his opponent in the face and telling him to suck his d lol. Typical 🤡
I watched this fight back in the day because it was a Cotto fight. I, like about a million other people came away a Malignaggi fan afterwards. I never missed a Paulie fight for the rest of his career, I loved his honesty, his heart and his skills during the ups and downs. I followed him around in his commentary work when I could as I reckoned he was one of the greatest boxer-turned-commentators ever(along with Roy Jones, Barry Jones and Jim Watt) and eventually found him again on YT with Paulie TV and ProBoxTV. Total legend and a boon to boxing fans that know the truth when they see and hear it. Respect.

I'm 5 minutes into the video and I had to stop it just to comment. Paulie says Cotto butted me on purpose to be dirty. Paulie you went in for the clinch. Cotto was boxing. You caused that. That was all you.
It says a slot about Pauli to admit that those doubts were in his head, many other warriors would never admit that they contemplated quitting. Like he said,we are all human. I wrestled In high school and college and I never gave up but yes there was times that I contemplated it.
PAULIE AKA MAJIC MAN AKA BRAVEHEART to me , as a Puerto Rican myself of course i was a bit bias and was rooting cotto but u have gained my respect to go 12 rounds with a strong fighter , I’m grateful for your honesty and knowledge of a sport I love ,, also you DID NOT SELL YOUR SOUL like some of these boxers that have , just know that boxing needs you to be our boxing fan advocate and are our fan voice , GOD BLESS
I boxed for a long time and of course I'm a huge boxing fan. I always watched your fights Paulie and when you fought Cotto I thought that you were in serious trouble. You fought a great fight and I was SO impressed with your performance! You are the man! God bless and Aloha from Hawaii !
The reason I started watching boxing was this fight, sky sports had a build up to this fight, fell in love with the sport from this and Paulie is my favourite boxer. Not the greatest just my favourite.
Floyd had a massive fan base that went to see him lose. Paulie is an ok dude, those guys from New Jersey or New York they have a bit of an attitude, I really like his announcing too he's one of the few guys I like Algerie, Mannix is ok I just love the sport it's a dance mixed with hand eye coordination and a massive mental war like chess in that ring, what move to make, what move to counter move his moves, footwork, watching to pick up predictable habits. Anyway rant over LOL
Paulie is a gem in the boxing community and this fight helped change the way fans looked at him. He earned the respect he should have had even before this.
One of the telltale signs of being a good story teller. You feel yourself getting more and more nervous as the story goes on. Also, with all due respect, Paulie got hit plenty. He fought like he did because like the brawler, he didn't have a choice. He didn't have the power to keep someone off of him. Fortunately he did have the skill to fight like he did. I liked it when Floyd praised him for winning two world titles while having below average power. He boxed the ears off the Ukrainian guy for his WW title. The guy was so outclassed they had to stop it power or no power
This was such a great tactical fight for Paulie. He went toe to toe with the best and Cotto gave him much respect for battling the entire fight. A combined 47-0 and someone had to loose.
Paulie, always tells the reality of a situation and obstacles we all face, even as boxing fans. Personal feelings in any thing that life throws our way, we feel a sense of not giving up our pride. Because at the end of the day, sometimes that's all i have.
Since Cotto and Hatton were my favorite fighters in the mid 00s, i was wondering if Paulie himself can tell me if Ricky hits as hard or close to Cotto's power. Hope you answer in detail!

I like Paulie, he's honest, but he was clinching basically with his face up front and Cotto was turning his face away which puts the top of his head closer to Paulie's face. It is sad that it happened that early in the fight but i do not think it was intentional. If you go watch some other Cotto's fights you'll see he got cut himself due to others headbutts and i think it was a normal response due to that. But i also wouldnt bet against that it could have been intentional, i just doubt it.
I always thought Paulie had good skills but lacked a knockout punch because every now and then no matter how good of a boxer you are you need that power punch to keep the bad guy off of you but he was a game fighter
John Duddy from Ireland was on the card. There was an Irish presence for him. Paulie had almost no fans to support him. I only met 3 from Brooklyn that were there to support him. Almost 99% Puerto Rico crowd.
Paulie accomplished more with less talent than almost anyone. He had average physical strength, no ko power, yet he could be competitive with monsters like Coto and even beat Zab Juda. He got the most out of his ability.
